I liked Apocalypse. It was underwhelming considering the character but, you can only do so much in a 2-hour movie. What was there was still good.
If they tried to cram in stuff like Cable, Time travel, the Dark Riders, etc. It would’ve turned into a shitty mess like Spider-Man 3. I also didn’t like how he died so easily. It seemed like they were kinda rushing to wrap things up at that point.
Overall, i thought it was pretty good but, not great. Kinda like Dark Knight rises compared to Dark Knight.
The plot itself was the bad thing. All this “Quicksilver going to reveal Magneto he’s his son but in the end he doesn’t”, the Horsemen were random and garbage (really? was Angel one of the most powerful mutants before the power-up? What about after it? Was Psylocke powerful?), all the weary Magneto-Xavier “I know there’s good in you” repetition, Storm’s sudden and unexplainable change of side, Apocalypse was weak as hell and looked too cranky, and the Wolverine scene was crammed in a very noticable way.
There are equal number of things I like about the movie, of course, but in the end I can’t consider it a good superhero movie, specially after DOFP. And Dark Phoenix is having an equally rushed development and production, I can’t imagine this ending well…
Yeah Quicksilver wussing out was a missed opportunity. It would have added more motivation to Magneto’s turn against Apocalypse, “You have more family than you know”.
Horsemen? Yup. Besides Magneto, the other horsemen were just there. I loved Olivia Munn’s casting as Psylocke annnnddd…they did almost nothing with her. Just there to fill space like Archangel.
Storm turning against Apocalypse was explained by the way she looked up to Mystique so much. Once she showed up and started getting choked by Apocalypse, that made Storm realize she was on the wrong side.
As for the rest? I really liked the Wolverine cameo stuff and how they worked it in. Thought it was done well. Also Magneto’s, “Theres good in you” drama. It WOULD have been lame for them to return to that shtick again but, considering the family tragedy earlier, it worked because his motivations were so-well defined.
I was highly skeptical of the actors for Cyclops and Jean Grey but, they turned out well. Cyclops being my all-time favorite X-Men character, it was nice to see him treated decently for once. Issac’s Apocalypse also turned out well for the most part too.
Overall, despite the issues, the movie still had enough strong points in it’s own right. Thought it was pretty good.
X3 was written by Kinberg/Penn and directed by Brett Ratner.
In X3Tom Rothman, the fox head mandated Cyclops had to be killed off and the Phoenix plot had to be a subplot to the cure story. This was done because Singer had left to do Superman returns and Tom wanted to spite him. They waited too long to start X3 and then rushed it just to get into cinemas before Superman returns.
Ironically Singer left because Rothman was delaying signing a new contract even after X2s success.
Also,Ratner has ADD and both him and Tom pushed for a 90 minute runtime to have more showings/day lol.
If this new movie fails, it’s all on Kinberg as opposed to being partially on him.
Fassbender - Im honestly tired of Magnus. He wasnt even in the original story. After Ass Creed and Alien Covenant flopped, he needs easy money.
If hes going to be in it, can he at least stay on the same side for 120 minutes?
OR have Quiksilver reveal himself as his son if QS is in it.
McAvoy, and Cyclops/Jean/Nightcrawler/Storm - cool. I liked their stuff in Apoc.
Beast - I am so ambivalent about him. In FC , he was ok, but it seems hes just the “Q branch” for X-men.
Chastain - Great actress, but it saddens me that shes in an Xmen movie but NOT playing Jean.
It is also worrying that she is being referred to as the main villain.I guess D’ken will smooshed into her character.
I hope they keep the romantic aspects of her and Xavier relationship in some form.
Most likely. Fox only has the Film rights to the X-men, not the TV rights.
For Fox to produce a X-Men TV show they need Marvel/Disney to sign off on it, and that means they have to negotiate.
It’s why the new FX Legion TV show is a co-produce Marvel/Fox production instead of just Fox.
I think Disney allowing Fox to still make X-men films as Movies such as Deadpool and Logan is too violent and dark for the Disney Brand.
And in the past Disney allowed their subsidiaries like Miramax touch the Rated R stuff, but Miramax isn’t up to snuff for a full fledged Super hero block buster.
Disney isn’t allowing Fox to do shit when it comes to movies. Fox simply isn’t going to give up the rights short of them completely tanking 3 consecutive movies like FF did.
No, actually Marvel/Disney has to show what it’s called Good Faith. It’s part of these film contracts where if you don’t option the property the licenses revert back to the IP holder.
Marvel/Disney has to prove the films bomb and ether lose money or damage their brand to not Green Light a Film.
Marvel/Disney can ax an Fantastic Four film now as there been 4 bad Fantastic Four movies (the first one was never released how bad it was).
Now with X-men, with First Class, Days of Future Past, Deadpool and Logan doing well Marvel/Disney can’t just say “NO” because they want the film rights back.
They have to basically prove that Fox is damaging their X-men Brand to shit can a film.
