X-men: Dark Phoenix: (June 7,2019)

An X-force with X-23 does sound interesting.

Singer.

One more x film. Deadpool, Wolvie, x-23, collosus, negasonic, and cable as x-force. Fighting bishop through time.

Well for what it’s worth, there’s been a lot of rumours of X-23 being introduced in The Wolverine 3, which would make sense as the perfect time to debut her, and considering she well, IS Wolverine now in the comics, having her potentially replace the Wolverine we know movie-wise in some capacity WOULD make a lot of sense. Plus well, it’d just make me happy too, so there’s that.

(What he said. Singer referring to X-23 as ā€œthe femaleā€ doesn’t exactly look great either, even before you get into faux feminist stuff.)

That said, I have no doubt that FOX will try to mangle Laura in someway unfortunately. My only solace is that Dust should at least get spared since positive Muslim characters are still basically persona non grata in movies today.

Back from seeing it. I’d say 6 or 7/10 maybe. If you liked First Class and DoFP, it’s more of the same. If not, not really anything that will change your mind. Quicksilver is the scene-stealer once again.

funny part that stood out for me other than the QS parts

Spoiler

The younger X-Men go to the mall and watch Return of the Jedi. As they are debating how that went and the strengths/weaknesses of the SW series

Jean: Well, at least we know the third movie is always the worst

Long writeup, similar to what I did to CW, sizzoilars

Spoiler

Story picks up from DoFP’s post credits. Apoc has ruled Egypt from some time. One of his powers is the ability to move from body to body.

His next host is a dude with Wolverine-like healing factor, so he’s poised to rule forever.

But, some vengeful humans try to hijack the transfer ceremony. They sabotage the ceremony and try to stop Apoc. They fail, but the original Horsemen also die trying to protect Apoc. He gets buried and forgotten for a couple of thousand years

Fast forward to the 80s. Cyke’s powers manifest when a bully confronts him, presumably for looking at the latter’s girl. Off to Westchester he goes

Mystique is a mercenary of some sort, and also saves mutants in trouble. Although her saving the president in DoFP gives a positive view of mutants, they’re not in the clear yet and are still viewed as dangerous.

She ocassionally does stuff for Caliban, who is a gay smuggler or something who also knows where certain mutants are. I don’t know :dizzy:

She goes to Germany to some underground mutant fight league. She sees Blob jobbing to Angel, and then Nightcrawler is next. She breaks up the fight and helps Nightcrawler escape. Angel’s left wing is rendered useless when it hits an electrified fence.

Meanwhile, Magneto is living in Poland under an assumed name, working at a steel smelting plant and he has a wife and kid. His daughter can control forest animals and stuff. He reveals himself by saving one worker from being crushed by a giant steel container.

Later on, the town police (who leave their badges and guns at home and are armed with bows and arrows and clubs) take custody of his daughter. The other workers reported the incident, and they saw bits and pieces of the Magneto news from the 70s. The daughter panics and siccs some eagles and other birds on the cops. Out of fear and surprise, one of the cops releases his hold on his bow, and the arrow manages to kill both the kid and the mom. In his grief Magneto takes his dead kid’s locket and slices all the cops’ necks with it.

So yeah basically this but with the wife dead too.

X-men: Dark Phoenix: (Nov. 2,2018)

In Egypt, Apoc’s cult has survived and through a ritual he is awakened. He runs into Storm and uses her TV to tap into satellite dishes and media to learn English and get caught up in world history I guess. He is upset at how the world diverged from his plans. So we’re gonna start anew, survival of the fittest blah blah blah. He amplifies Storm’s powers (not a lot of weather control here, just some lighting and wind so far), recruits Psylocke from Caliban, heals Angel (turns his wings into metal ones), and signs up Magneto who is easy to manipulate because of what happened earlier.

Quicksilver learns is mom got busy with Magneto back in the day and that’s who his dad is. He decides to pay the X-Mansion a visit for help…

Bad timing though. Apoc and the Horsemen are there to kidnap Xavier. He forces Xavier to mentally control everyone who have access to the nuclear weapons of the world. All of the nukes are launched… to be released harmlessly into space. Now the world has no nukes, and presumably this is so the US and the Soviets don’t mess with his plans. Wow thx Apoc.

X-Mansion explodes, but Quicksilver does his bullet time shit and saves everyone except Havok, who presumably died fighting Apoc and was closest to the blast.

In the confusion, Stryker arrives and kidnaps the main star X-Men to his dam/lake base. Jean/Cykes/Nightcrawler sneak onto his helicopter.

At the base, Jean frees Wolverine, who goes on a killing spree and provides the distraction needed to free the other X-Men.

Apoc wants Magneto to cause huge magnetic-related earthquakes all over the world… and then he’s
going to switch over to Xavier’s body and become a psychic dictator to all the survivors by forcing them to comply. It’s the only superpower missing from his moveset - virtual omniscience and omnipresence. And that’s how Xavier goes bald… from the transfer process/attempt.

Off to Egypt the X-Men go to stop the magnetic earthquakes n shit.

Xavier tries fighting Apoc in his mind but is losing. He reaches out to Jean and says it’s ok to let loose and use her powers even if she can’t fully control them.

Magneto and Storm realize the error of their ways and turn on Apoc. So he’s super pissed that his ā€œpeopleā€ are rebelling once again.

And Jean goes all Phoenix and RIP Apoc. Apoc gets disintegrated like how Cell got disintegrated by Gohan I guess. :i_dunno:

Magneto and Xavier bff’s again, Magneto leaves to wherever, X-Mansion is rebuilt, and the X-Men go to the danger room to train vs Sentinels. The end. :looney:

If you’re an Archangel or Psylocke fan by any chance, I have bad news. In typical Singer X-villain fashion they didn’t do a lot of anything. Angel is presumably killed at the end and Psylocke did fuck-all as well and thankfully only had maybe five lines, but she did survive and snuck away in
the end.

At least they got Jubilee right and made her do fuck-all as well aside from hanging around with the gang when they were in Westchester.

So yeah 7 max, I think 6-6.5 is about right.

Post-credits

Spoiler

Some people, presumably the govt/Stryker’s buddies are cleaning up the mess from earlier. Some dude goes to Wolverine’s cell and finds blood samples and stuff. He takes all that stuff away and puts it in his briefcase… which has an Essex Corp label on it.

So I guess other than the obvious Mr Sinister allusion, that’s how we’re going to get X-23 down the road.

[details=Spoiler]Jean was the shy/scared of her powera type for most of the movie. That was one of the ooc moments.

There were 2 Wolvis at the end of DoFP iirc. One got to see the DoFP-less future, the other was the dude Stryker and co. found in the river. I guess they went with the latter. It was def Weapon X, he had the headgear and the wires and all.[/details]

It is akin to BvS’ ā€œlol we forgot Man of Steelā€ in places come to think of it

Spoiler

Jean did something like that to Wolverine before he ran out of the base. But yeah it makes more sense. That would really suck -as you said, that means he escaped the Weapon X project first because of Mystique, but got caught again between DoFP and Apoc

Shows how much I care about this movie.
I avoided the CW thread like the plague.
And here I am in this thread, clicking everyone’s spoiler tab.

yeah… about that

Spoiler

The ending gave a tease of the new X team, with Mystique as the leader…

J Laws contract is up with this movie, which probably is the reason for her apathy in her acting.

Also, the ending rarely means anything now that theyre doing this decade jumping thing.

With or without J Law, shit might as well be nonexistent as long as SInger is still attached to it.

What’s even worse is Fox has yet to realize the cancer that is Simon Kinberg connected to all their shit.

I thought J Law being apathetic acting-wise (at least in First Class and DOFP since I haven’t seen Apocalypse) was just due to well, her being J Law. Regardless of if it’s in space or not, I feel like an X-Men movie without her can only be better, lol.

I agree. You can see the whole ā€œi don’t want to do this shitā€¦ā€ in all of her scenes. The movie is still a horrible representation of the X-men. I think she of casted her as someone else if that is the reason why Mystique has such a big role in the films.

Remember, J Law was cast as Mystique since First Class. One year before her rise to star power with the Hunger Games. Becoming a huge celeb has cause the studio to beef up her role in the X-Men movies.

She’s probably as thankful as we ALL are that she’s now done with this franchise.

So it sucked, then?
