The most probable theory for Apocalypse is that he will be one of the horsemen, presumably Death, a la the Twelve storyline in the late 90s. In that , apocalypse bonded adamantium to Logan after a forced battle between sabertooth.

Age of Apocalypse had so many great 4-issue mini series and then the conclusion sucked.
X-Man and Weapon X were some really good comics and made me wish the series would never return to normal.
