I think the custom colors would be awesome. When can we order
lol
pics of the painted cases yet?
I’m still waiting on the good Powder to get in. I did do some test runs with some flat black but it’s the cheap Harbor freight stuff and it’s not really meant to look good. just to protect the metal. Here’s a few blurry pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/56701743@N00/sets/72157623549395336/
**BTW the white marks are from the polish on my hands and the area where it looks faded is where I tried to polish it out but it seemed to leave a white residue because it was a flat finish and not glossy. The finish is very durable but I think it’s more for trailer hitches and tools rather than show. I’ll post pics of the better finishes once I get them in, any day now.
Harbor Freight. Great place for cheap tools. Quality? Well, that’s hit or miss!
That black chrome looks pretty serious! Would it really be cheaper to have it shipped to you? As long as they allow a different billing and shipping address I guess it wouldn’t be too bad.
I’ll probably e-mail you about the dual mod setup I asked about a few weeks ago and an idea on the wood trim I wanted to run past you!
Ok so I am working on the final design before next week. Thats when I’ll get the first batch of shells made. I need to know what button layout you guys want for the Home, start, select buttons. Right now I have it like this[ oo o o ] with the cable comming out the middle. Or should I leave it the way I have it now with the cable coming from the left like this [ ooo o ]? I need to make a decision soon so give me your thoughts.
Right now the dimensions are 13 3/4" x 8 3/4" on top and 13 3/4x10 1/8 at the base. It has a very nice feel and weight to it (I’ll have to weigh it tomorrow) and feels so solid I’m really going to love playing on this stick and so will you
if my prototype stick holds up to me beating on it over the weekend (if I get it finished by then) I may start taking orders so I can afford to get some more building supplies
I’ll post some pics maybe tomorrow I don’t plan on putting a finish on this case I just want to see how durable it is. I’ll have time make it pretty later
Loving the new design Voltech, it’s like a pimped out VSHG :P.
I’d personally prefer the [ oo o o ] layout so my start button mashing won’t hit the home/guide button. I’m definitely considering putting an order in for one of these beauties once you start production.
I also prefer the [ oo o o ] layout b/c the neutrik adapter can be centered. Its always easier to route the usb cable up the center of the case rather then up/around the joystick imo. I also prefer the home/guide buttons to be away from the start/select buttons
I have been looking for a graduation present and I must say I think I have found it lol. I may very well be here when these puppies go on sale.
Quick question though, you can only do one coat does that mean we can only choose colors that have single coat process indicated in its title? Sorry I dont know much about this powder coating stuff.
Voltech,
how much would it be for your viewlix slim case but instead a black color? If that’s not possible, I will take a white one like that case. PM please.
Thanks for the input guys I am leaning toward the [ oo o o ] myself so this id good confirmation and yes you are correct it is easier to wire the cabling to the center so unless I get a ton of people that want it the other way I’ll go with this.
@ MistaWayne - Yes you are correct I don’t think I can pull off 2 stage color coats yet. I need a better (more expensive) gun to do that lol It Might be something I can do but I haven’t tried yet so I don’t want to make any broken promises
More questions???
One thing I need to do is decide if the VAS-HG Elight sticks should have the wood trim tucked under like this option 1 or have it sticking out like this option 2?
Option 1 is the tried and true way and it would keep both sticks the same size and relative weight (depending on the hard woods) . Option 2 looks better (IMO) in the renders but may not look as good in real life because the fitting can be very tricky, plus it would add extra weight and width to an already heavy stick (think shipping costs). But you guys are the buyers and I’m doing this for you I want your input.
i like option 2 better but some people will like 1 better maybe u might have to make both for options
I think that option 1 is pretty sweet looking
i like option 1.
Option 2 def looks better… but I imagine it’s a tradeoff like you said. So…
@ibeatu - Thats not a bad idea I can do both if requested why not make it an option for the Elite model.?
Ok this is v3.0 of the access panel layout, I made the start and select buttons just a little closer together kind of like the T.E. centered the cable hole and gave the home button it’s own space. Link
Final dimensions for the frame will be 13 3/4 wide “x 10 1\8” at the base x 2 1/8’ tall the width with option 2 will be another 1 1/4" so 15" wide
Decisions are being made this is good Thanks for the help guys! Do you have any questions before I finalize the build?
I think that providing that option may be good idea. Now will we be able to get these in various layouts or is it just the 8 button vewlix? I still seem to be misunderstanding the powder coat thing because they’re are not that many color choices for “single stage” powders. Unless all the standard colors and RAL colors count as well.
My post got ignored…
@ F.D.K. - Sorry man didn’t even see it Yeah I’ll have white cases but I haven’t posted the actual pricing yet just my estimate. Once I get my quote for a bulk order of supplies I’ll post the final pricing but it will be between $100.00 and $175.00 for the new steel cases.
@ MistaWayne - There are a few I cant do because they require a second stage. The clear coat is something I need to test out if I can get it to work than it will open up a lot of new color options. I talked to the rep and they said for indoor applications the clear coat isn’t needed unless it requires it or you just want the extra depth that it gives. It’s mainly used for protection from fading in the sun.
ah ok that makes sense. thanks
