you bring up some very good points there is alot of double standards I dont remember anybody complaining about pai and durals added jiggle in vf4.
As for knowing the reason for actually hating the series i think the first time i played doa2 and lost half a bar because of a counter by a stunned opponent whilst going for a combo put me right off, not to mention the massive window.
I dont think i’ve ever met anybody that hates doa because of a few scantily clad girls, the vast majority of people i know just hate the counter system.
I think doa has potential but it’s up to itagaki to stop with stupid vollyball/ minigame teenage boy wet dream games which i belive actually hurt doas allready fragile reputation, i think he also has to realize that the whole thing that made doa so “special” (in his warped mind at least) the whole counter system just does not work.
Before any doa fanboys come and spout how many millions it’s sold how it has been a tourneyment game and all that other bollocks ask yourself a question, remove all the girl characters all bar say 1 or 2 and replace them with beefy men named sven and mohammed, would we be having this discussion? i dont think so because doa would have died years ago with all the other shitty 3d fighters.

I used to play DOA4 quite a bit… however, the gameplay does get super old… what? you’re getting hit? SPAM BLOCK + DIRECTION AND COUNTER! That’s essentially the only tactic that game has IMO. Yes, graphics look good, boobs galore, but that doesn’t make it the “world’s premier fighter.” And the online play adds in some fun for the game… however when you realize that half the people you play with are kids who are more annoying than nails being drug on a chalk board, you quickly cancel your xbox live account/stop playing doa4 online.
NG I thought was flawless… if you take out the often horrible camera angle. OH WAIT, THAT’S A FLAW. Great game? Indeed. Flawless? Nope.
VF5? At least DOA4 has knocking through buildings, downstairs, or other crazy shyt appealing to the eye.
VF5 is like a slower DOA with more boring combos and gameplay

Taki. I mean, c’mon. as far as silliness in design goes, she owns EVERY DOA girl. DOA is not the only series that does this. It’s just the only one talked about for it for some reason.

Itagaki is a comedian. His stand-up is REALLY good. I almost fell out of my chair, it was amazing!
So adding a bunch of semi pointless crap that doesn’t really add anything to the game other than it “looks cool” matters most in the end. Right.

If you’re implying that VF5 is slow with “boring combos,” you either 1) haven’t seen good high-level play, 2) have barely played the game if not at all or 3) you’re smoking crack.
And honestly, does faster always mean better?
In the same way, you can also say without VF, DOA would have never existed.
Not only is Taki the only character in her series to sport grossly overrated cleavage, it’s done in a much more realistic fashion than that of DOA ( where every girl looks exactly alike, has enormous breasts, and plastic skin). Other series do do it, but as I stated before DOA sets the bar for retarded breasts higher than any other game.

As much as i dislike the game, i respect the fact that it has gotten itself the exposure that the rest of the community lacks.
Maybe if capcom made a good new 2d fighter that sold well, WCG or someshit would pick it up
Sophita, Ivy, Cassandra (as of SCIV)? not only that, but the girls that AREN’T stupidly endowed, end up looking like strippers.
It isn’t a big deal but ALOT of video games of stupid female designs. (see, 98% of rpgs)
And the “doll” look isn’t just on the girls. that’s just the DOA art style. It was seen in Ninja gaidan to.
DOA having the best graphics is an arguable notion. Do some of you know that skin doesn’t really look like that?
As for DOA having potential… unfortunately it will never be realized because Itagaki thinks his fighter is flawless already.
Its easy to have big sales when almost all your games are launch titles.

Ok, seriously, what makes people think that he tries to make DOA characters even look realistic? One of the girls has naturally purple hair for god’s sake.
Itagaki, I don’t know the guy personally but every time I see him say stuff like this I get the following impression: him running down the street going “SASASASASASASASA” and posing heroically in front of convenience stores like “ZUBAAA~” when he’s about to buy cigarettes then punching random old people and cats. Like some flapjack version of Pepsiman

Almost every hardcore fighting gamer in the world knows that DoA is not all that. And casuals still play more Smash, MK, Tekken or other genders.
Even Ninja Gaiden is a flop in a way. It is hard for a new generation game, but has nothing on the old 8 or 16 bit games that could drive a man crazy. More than that, any single player game is by default easier than the challenges you can have playing against humans. Beat JWong and claim otherwise. And it is a nice game for sure, but is no God of War, and it certainly has no chances of outselling GTA anytime soon.
He is like the Dark Prince of the gaming development world. He is kinda good, he makes some money, but thinks he is something completely out of his league. I cant wait to see him trashing the new Super Mario or whatever.
And if I want pretty graphics I just turn on HBO.

I dont care what anyone says about the DOA girls, IMO their character designs a far superior to the shit that Capcom put in 3S (though I still like the game) and the skinny homos in the KOF series.
As far as the DOA gameplay goes, I used to think the single player was good fun (DOAU). You can just kind of zone out and land some cool looking counters. Good fun IMO.
Never played high level comp, so I cant say about that.
