I was agreeing with you on some level and was writing a post about it, then I read that… Yes, it was childish.
You say it was the most irrelevant part, but do you really think it was? Stating your opinion and then saying that if someone disagree with you it’s because they suck at the game is ridiculous.
I do respect your opinion and you as a player though, even if you don’t think the same of anyone who don’t like the idea of taking x-factor out…
And if they do, I’ll still enjoy playing against Regular Wesker, Regular Vergil, Regular Strider and Dark Phoenix.
Actually, I think the regular version is the better one for all the characters you listed, except of course Dark Phoenix.
I don’t even see any “Dark Vergils” (I hate how people took the great Dark Wesker joke and destroyed it saying Dark Anyone), and Strider is a lot stronger as a point character, even though he can pull out some impressive comebacks, it’s rarely because of X-Factor by itself.
Maybe Dark Wesker is better than Regular Wesker, but he’s the only exception. Of course this is just in my shitty scrubby opinion of a fraud who don’t think they should remove X-Factor.
Yeah, I love X-Factor guard cancel, the fact that it nullfies any chip damage and the ability to extend combos, so if they kept those I would be satisfied even if they removed the rest.
It would also be interesting to see this game with Baroque instead of X-Factor.
You seem to have misunderstood(either that or I misworded). I am not saying anyone who doesn’t want Xfactor gone is a fraud or a scrub. I was just stating how it’s a common sentiment among most intermediate to high level players that XFactor gone would make for a better game. Of course, there are always exceptions. I’m pretty sure the Phoenix players in Vanilla would have been opposed for example
The way I understood it seemed like “if you don’t think without x-factor the game would be better, than you suck”, if it was really not the case then it was my mistake, sorry about that.
There was a lot of people that complained(still complain) about mvc2’s balance, including myself at one point. Not seeing Megaman, Jin, Spidey, and most of the other cast at high-level made people salty, and a lot of people were hyped going into MVC3 expecting more then just a handful of competitive characters. After awhile though, I learned to enjoy mvc2 for what it was and get hyped when I see it played at high level.
I agree with you that diversity is a prilivage and not a necessity in a good game, which is why I’m not a fan of knee-jerk nerfs to every character that gets too much exposure or dominates the tourney scene.
Well, I was never a fan of “You lost because you were winning” mechanics, so yeah, I’d turn it off.
That, or make it significantly weaker than it is now. Yeah, I’d definitely go with the weakening over eliminating it entirely. It would have to be some serious weakening, though.
XF wouldnt be so bad if it didnt let you get away with doing simple shit to kill off a character. I can beat tons of Weskers with any character but as soon as they pop XF3, one hit leads into a full health 5-hit combo. I doubt anybody’s gonna drop a 5-hit combo anytime soon.
its not only that. XF can punish safe normal attempts like dive kicks. It can punish jump ins\ground chains too. Some characters have the luxury of doing XF on block, 1f cmmd grab reversal like wesker hor. That’s practically free death right there. Not to mention that it really fucks up the “team” aspect of the game because even though you have a team, you can still lose to a single character rocking xf3. The mechanic is there simply to help new players pick bad teams, then still have a possible shot with that xf3 character. Bad players going up against msp hrax always ran some dumb shit like roll\akuma hanos then complained why the game wasn’t really that fair. Team building is paramount in this game and its not something you really learn in one day, I’m still learning about different team building concepts 10 years in. The XF lessens the gap quite substantially.
part of the problem is that game is designed around XF. Some characters have really bad attributes only to become monsters in XF 3 like dark phoenix and strider. It does fuck this game though from a competitive perspective though IMO.
its a team game, you should have to pick a good team, manage your team chemistry against your opponents, dissect his build strategy and go for the best possible layers. Yes, that concept is still there but the whole point to that concept is that once its effective, you use your team chemistry advantage to simply beat your opponent and that isn’t there anymore. Someone could pop xf2\3 and just win the game while actually playing worse. Kind of hard to play the game properly when the goal is to kill someone but once you start killing off characters, you’re giving your opponent the strongest tool in the game. Basically as I get my ass kicked, I get stronger and tougher to deal with. It completely goes against how a fighting game typically been played for over 15 years. In the position where someone actually has to play, the developers have thrown in a mechanic to make it so they don’t have to “play”.
If I had the option, no, I would not turn it off. It’s like turning off Ultra combos in SSF4, it just doesn’t work. It’s a key part of the game, and call me crazy, but I love it.
I also like x-factor.
Imagine if it wasn’t there. You get happy birthday’d, lose your point character and your second character, there is no point in even trying to win.
But with x-factor, you can do it. IMO it makes the game more enjoyable because it reduces the snowball effect a match can have.
Would I like to turn off the option to undeservingly reverse OCV teams just because I pressed 4 buttons and hit LMHS MMHS 3 times?
Would I like to turn off the option to press 4 buttons to fix stupid mistakes I made instead of being punished?
Would I like to turn off the option to press 4 buttons and kill someone instead of having to block and wait it out?
Would I like to turn off the option to press 4 buttons to not die to chip when I clearly was going to lose and possibly win the game because of it?
X-Factor was designed with the intention of being a comeback mechanic, but IMO, its best use is that it can help you break the opponent’s team composition.
Breaking the team composition is an essential strategy in high level play, and this mechanic makes that strategy much more interesting (thanks to guard cancels)
the game was made to be played with this mechanic available, and turning it off would just mean victory for the players who spent all their time bitching instead of practicing like the others…
Are you in fact high right now? Xfactor lvl3 characters routinely plow through entire teams. It’s not just not hype, it’s a legitimate strategy. If a single character with lvl 3 on deck, and meter galore from the two sacrificial characters in front of him, is an even or close-to-even position to a fully loaded cast of 3 characters, then it’s not even a ‘comeback’. That’s business as usual.
“We just got a real match” was hype because Cyclops on point is crap compared a full MSP. Not-even-funny-why-are-we-watching-this crap. He didn’t hit a button to magically turn Cyclops into the equivalent of a full MSP team. He out played an amazing MSP full team with a better played single character. That was hype because that was playing a bad hand extremely well, holding that shit down.
Scrap the damage boost and minimum damage scaling from Xfactor, and I’ll be fine. As is, it’s a bullshit mechanic.
I think it’s actually pretty fun. It’s a lot of fun watching someone use Lv. 3 XF, only for me to run away from them with Morrigan dashing all over the place, which is typically my optimal strategy to beat Wesker (until I get grabbed:( )
This.
X-factor prior to vanilla release was a new mechanic with potential.
X-factor after release was just a way to derp out wins.
Capcom, please nerf the hell out of X-factor to make it less derpy and more strategic; if you ever patch this game do nothing else.
