except im not paying them by the hour. I can compare it to a cd from my favorite band that i paid $12 for which never gets old or out of date and doesnt need updates or fixes. How or how much I use the game after I purchase it has no bearing on the arguement. I couldve just as easily used it to cut my wrists with, that doesnt higher or lower its value.
Don’t get me wrong, I thought CS was a fantastic upgrade and the story mode was awesome and well worth $40 dollars, I was just using it as an example.
UMVC3 is still going to trump CS in terms of “bullet points” as far as whats new though, and that’s what I was getting at.
You’re right, there isn’t much for the non-competitive crowd, which is why I think UMVC3 is a good idea.
They said they’re going to be adding a lot more to keep the non-competitive and single-player oriented people happy, and I’m not sure if that would have ever happened if there wasn’t a new retail disc.
Considering Capcom said they’re looking directly at tournament results in regards to how they’re going about rebalancing, I would say they’re trying to please everyone.
If a Phoenix or Wolverine happen again, we might have to wait or we might not. I don’t know, I don’t work at Capcom. I definetly wouldn’t want frequent balance patching like MK though. How annoying.
Because its a business and if they feel in the long run there’s nothing to be made from it then why should they continue to work on it?
Money is a surefire way for a company to understand that there’s interest in their product, and it gives them motivation to keep working on something which is why there’s been 10,000 Street Fighter titles in the last 20 years
i thought mvc3 was a scrubby and highly unstable game, i paid full price for it and i didn’t squeeze as much juice out of it as dedicated players did… and i’ll still buy ultimate. even without all the old content, a brand new fighting game with 12 characters and 8 stages would probably be $40+ anyway. at least it’s getting tacked onto an engine that we already know is fun.
Edit: Eh /Rage
I guess my whole point is it seems for a company that ‘listens’ so closely to its fans it doesn’t treat as much more than a meal ticket. I’m really starting to appreciate the MK9 model honestly…
I got a ton out of MvC3 (I’m still playing it now), and this one has pretty much all of my most wanted characters and more for only $40. I don’t see why I wouldn’t take advantage of such a great deal.
It still would’ve turned into less money earned I’m sure. Initial development cost are higher than the cost of the sequel because the sequel has the money made from the original title (MvC3) and whatever budget they get. This is why they can afford to sell the sequel for less and still turn a profit.
The $40 dollar price tag is like a thank you for buying the first game and making it sell so well in my eyes.
well, i bought MvC1 for 40 back in the day, so yea i would.
but im not buying UMvC3 cause its not a good game
You don’t HAVE to buy it, you know? Not because you have the first part/version of a game, it doesn’t mean you have to buy the next part/version if you didn’t know already. If you are complaining about the price compared to the content of the game, that must mean you want to buy it. And if you want to buy it, it probably means you like the first part/version of the game. If you like the first part/version a lot, then either continue and buy UMVC3.
Also, don’t say this or that is easy to do. You were probably not part of the development team, so you don’t know the troubles or work that takes to do something. And also, the game been released so early, is probably because remember this was planned as DLC, but because of some “obstacles” it couldn’t be done. DLC usually is released near to the game’s release, so they probably already have some progress. People complaining/requesting balance changes were mostly very furious or inpatient for changes, and Capcom thankfully listened for them (and more).
Of course it doesn’t, at least not on the mainstream market. That’s the beauty of it. The more time and enjoyment you got out of it, the better deal you effectively got when you made your purchase.
There are many other titles that offer small quantity, yet unique quality that is full of flavor.
This title gave you plenty, in terms of quantity. You got a lot out of it, so I don’t understand why you would feel the need to complain.
If you only played online and had no way to play anybody offline, then I could see you complaining; but as it is, you got your moneys worth, imho.
You mean the COD model, aka hide a bad game behind tons of content. NO THANK YOU, because honestly that is the trend most modern games are taking. I want to play my games over and over again because I like the game mechanics, not to unlock a new hat or achievement.
Ya know, there’s people out there who pay $15 per month to get their PvP action on.
Yes, I paid $70 for MvC3. And I’d do it again, dammit. It’s because we all bought MvC3 that we are getting Ultimate MvC3.
I did pretty much only play online. Im glad you see it my way.
Do you have the source code to MvC3 or something? Perhaps their budgeting or schedule? I mean you must have this kind of information to be making the assumptions your making. Perhaps you work for a similar company like Netherrealm or Arc Systems.
…of course you don’t have said info, because you’re likely not some script kiddie hacker. You are also not likely an employee of Arc Systems or Netherrealm based solely on your ignorance. They’d have more class than to bag on a fellow game developer working in genre that’s so difficult to profit from. More than likely you don’t know two shits about any of that and just feel you are entitled to something without knowing the cost.
Ever stop to think that games cost money to make? Ever stop to think that MvC3 was likely the effort of a small team of passionate devs with a very limited bankroll and a very short schedule? Ever stop to think they tried their absolute best to make the best ot only for the fans, but to prove to the company that the MvC franchise is still a good investment? Ever stop to think that you don’t actually know how game development works at any company, let alone Capcom?
No?
Of course not, most self entitled shits are prone not to think of anything but themselves.

Yeah and MK9 is a terrible fighter. I knew it wasnt gonna be good from the vids but bought into the hype and got it, Its terrible. The 1 player content is so nice tho, too bad about gameplay. I wish we had a game with that much love put into it that plays like a capcom peice. Either love from a bad game or cash grab BS for a good one.
Also The Comeback Kid, and a lot of other people complaining about “locked” DLC on disc really don’t have a clue on how Free Enterprise works. The way Capcom (and other game companies with this version of DLC) presented their game was presented in such a way to have “locks”. Analogy aside, this is no different from having X video game with Y hidden content that can only be accessed via using codes/hacking. Unless Capcom presented it to you that Shuma/Jill/Costumes were included in the disc as the standard game, you shouldn’t assume that it was open to you to have at no charge because it exists on disc. The definition for “DLC” is maintained; for Shuma and costumes, you are paying for the unlock code, and for Jill, the unlock code and the remainder of her coding. That’s all “Downloadable Content.” If this was so illegal, Capcom would have have numerous Class Action Lawsuits at their door by now.
If you have such a problem with how things came about, next time do your research before you purchase your product. Case in point, tons of potential MvC3 buyers held onto their wallets, for this inevitable UMvC3 product.
what a bitch!!
Can you not be a dick? Cap had tons of money and a great team to work on the game after the sucess of SF4 AND SSF4
. The fact we got an unfinished game the first time around for full price and now a disc only update of that for another $40 is ridic. SF4 vanilla was on its own, finished. Super was finished. The Super and AE updates were fan service. With Marvel theyre just milking right now.
Ewwww… ok… Sorry. Online play sucks in all FGs IMO, and in this one it is particularly bad.
Still, I believe your anger is misplaced. The first release was obviously not released with the “online only” player as the target audience. I don’t think any FG really is, nor can be until internet backbones are upgraded.
I would, with friendly intentions, suggest that you develop a method of playing offline. Fighting games are much better to play offline. (Did you know that online play for every FG reduces input from 60 frames to 30, so even if you have ping 10 you are playing a different game?)
I do feel bad for you then, and understand why you are upset. Please don’t direct your anger towards this new product though. This new product is good, and most of us here did get our moneys worth out of the old one.
=(
You keep throwing the phrase “unfinished game” around, but I don’t think you actually know what that means.
I thinkis fucked up you have to pay extra for something thats already there, but my arguement is the same. I bought it, just think its a fucked way to do business thats gonna hurt the company (again) in the long run. And im gonna buy ultimate, I love marvel 3, I just think its dirty business and treating day 1, loyal customers like shit.
