i didnt count the block for sc… the point is that you had to KNOW what you were doing…it took PRACTICE…you had to WORK HARDER to bet good
So, you are basically saying that making execution harder makes the game better.
This is a fallacy. It doesn’t matter how easy or hard it is to pull off a move or combo. It’s knowing WHEN to apply those moves and combos that matters.
It’s my opinion that learning 1-frame links and long-input combos are the most unnecessary part of a fighting game. If you take away the execution, you are left with the best parts of a fighting game - the mind games. The strategy. The knowledge that you won or lost not based on how many times you practiced a combo, but that you knew when to use that combo.
It was also reasonable of everyone that bought the game to assume a patch would be coming for the netplay.
Are they required to do one? Of course not, but historically speaking it was fair for everyone to expect one - and for it to be free.
But you counted the block button for MK? You know what never mind whatever… Simplicity doesn’t inherently make a game any less deep. Lots of games are made easy to start and hard to master. In fact I would go as far to call it a design fundamental. GG, BB, VF, MvC, DS, SF, DMC all are easy to get into but are deceptively deep once you start digging. MvC3 is no different. The average person would dismiss these games as easy button mashers. The truth is, they don’t understand whats really going in these types of games. All they see is results. For somebody who claims to play a lot of fighting games, you sure don’t understand the core dynamics very well.
Back on topic, I think Ultimate is possibly the best valued update in the history fighting games. Hell yeah i’m buying it! It’s a great deal.
The problem is most customers are casual and have a very passive interest in fighting game genre. To them, more characters and single player modes inherently = better game. They wanted MvC3 to be a true successor to MvC2 right out the gates with 60 plus characters and score of single player modes and a story plucked from the most avid comic/capcom fans wet dream. This is remarkably unreasonable. 60 plus characters built from scratch AND LOTS of other extras in the scope of one game?!? Are you kidding me!?!?!
Consequently when the game had significantly less characters, people irrationally jumped to the conclusion of MvC3 is an unfinished beta project. Based on this they concluded with more paranoid assumption that Capcom was holding out more content and the real MvC3 is actually being sold in two parts. These same people feel with much conviction that these new features were held back from the first game and that Capcom is ripping them off. What kind of dumb ass shit is that? That’s like McDonalds adding cheese to a burger. Now your thinking about your hamburger and feel ripped off that you didn’t get the cheese for free in the first place. You bought a hamburger mothafucka. You walked up to the counter and asked the man for hamburger you are not entitled to this cheese. Ultimate MvC3 is cheese and you gotta pay for it.
I really don’t know what to say to a person that thinks like that and these people will argue you down with dogmatic certainty that this is exactly what Capcom is doing. These people either don’t care about fighting games enough to see the value in an update or they are self entitled children who want everything their way and only their way.
Either way fuck them.

100% agree.
The kind of people complaining about this literally are children. They don’t have jobs or any source of income, and if they don’t have a birthday in November, they certainly don’t want to wait until Christmas when their parents will finally buy it for them. So they’re stuck. And they’re frustrated.
But there are 2 things they do have: a computer and a lot of free time.
So they start crying all over the internet, and create threads, and post comments, and do whatever they can to make sure everyone hears them loud and clear that they are upset with Capcom.
All i can say to these kids is this: it’s still summer time. Go mow some lawns and save up $40. You could even make $40 from mowing just 1 or 2 lawns. Then save it (don’t spend it on ice cream or whatever the hell kids buy these days), and come November you’ll be able to buy UMVC3 on release day just like the grown-ups.
I’m going to have to stop you right there. This has nothing to do with anything.
Whether or not you can afford to spend your money doesn’t mean it’s a good investment, or a wise decision.
I have a job and am nearly 30. I can afford to take $40 out of my wallet right now and set it on fire. It’s not something I’m interested in doing.
The amount of time I have to dedicate to something doesn’t negate the validity of any argument I may present on the matter.
If a 7 year old straight drops some science on you, his age (or level of naivete) doesn’t make it wrong.
i honestly just see this as people new to fighting games being confused about how this all works. frequent updates is part of the game, and has been since 1992 (or thereabouts). if you don’t like it, play another genre, like sports games, those only get updates once per year, and the updates only cost $60 instead of $40, so they are way cheaper.
I’d pay that much if the game had characters that I really like.
So in regards to UMVC3… hell no.
Yeah, but that is never going to happen ;).
This boils down to spending a negligible amount of money on a hobby which we all share; and being a member of SRK means that you are not just a fighting game fan, you are a hardcore fighting game fan. I’m not a fan of how fast this game is coming out on the heels of Vanilla MvC3, but I am also beyond excited about the new additions to the cast, how the re-balancing will turn out, and what I hope to be improved netplay. I get all of that for a very reasonable price point, and right around the holidays and winter when I am going to be spending a lot of time at home. Money is important, but so is my hobby, and I am willing to spend money on it from time to time to increase the fun I am having. I could totally get why someone wouldn’t want to drop $40 on an upgrade of a game they just spent $60 for a couple months ago, and we all have budgets, but video gaming has never been a cheap hobby, and Capcom is giving us a lot of bang for our buck. My .02.
Come on people. UMvC3 is JUST LIKE “expansions” in other games. Even the price tag is an “expansion” price tag. It’s nothing new - this been happening ever since the early 90s (maybe even the 80s since Capcom been doing it). Saying “would u pay 40 for a game with 12 chars and 8 stages” is misleading, because your paying $40 to recieve those ON TOP of all the content of the original game. Very different, especially in a fighting game where you pick 3 characters per team - 12 more characters gives you a huge amount of new options for your teams.
Expansions have NEVER hurt a games sales, and if you look thru history you will see the majority of players who buy the original game also buy the expansions. In many cases, these games get MORE popular when the expansions are released as “stand-alone” expansions similar to this one.
Some people just like to complain about everything…
depends how much you want to play the game Iam buy it as I love mvc3 its my fav next gen fighter
This needs to come out pronto. Along with my Dreamcast Revolution. aka Sega DC 2. With 45 peripheral slots. Then they can possibly have a chance at the rest of my unexplored childhood…
Ofcourse I agree… my problem with making games like this too easy, here comes the spam…it’s in every game …i know this …but when u can’t react… that’s bad…I’m all about timing, verbal sparring, strategy, predictions and maximizing damage for punishing people who make mistakes… the way most of these people play nowa days…people wouldn’t even play them in the arcades…it’s cheap…projectiles that take up the entire screen (Which is normal in mvc games)is to be expected, are fast enough to hit you before you could even move…I would love to play people like justin wong who aren’t all about spamming to take damage for a cheese but are willing to fight to earn the win… I use Akuma, Deadpool and Super Skrull… I fight …the game is fun when your playing with people with like minds… what I’m saying is that I would like a little more variation… different options like the six button layout and command combos gave me more of that…They made it more user friendly which I can’t get mad @. I was expecting a different set up that TVC… which honestly was a better combo system to me because of directional input… alot of the problems I have seems like it will be fixed in mvc3…so I’m going to wait and see…
Games are REALLY expensive in America, aren’t they?
Hmmmm…ironic.
I pre ordered the game, So, yeah, paying the cost…

You act like spammers are hard to overcome. You want to punish mistakes? Spamming is a mistake, and if you have a hard time fighting it, well… yeah. In MvC3, you get the added bonus of air blocking, so I don’t know what sort of trouble you’re having fighting these people.

Most people, from beginners to pros, play to win. Noobs first starting to play or scrubs beings scrubs will try to win in the one way they can think of at that point: spamming. Predictable, easy-to-overcome (or at least, should be) spamming. Don’t complain, and don’t blame them. When you fight someone who’s just mindlessly spamming, do them a favor and give them a good beating so that maybe they’ll rethink their playstyle, or quit in frustration.
…
…
How about you just go back to Capcom Unity now.
Maybe. I’m thinking, you can get it for 40$ at some places. Pre-order at 10 dollars. Trade in MVC3 for 20$ value.
All in all you pay all of ten bucks when you come to pick up the game.
i didn’t read the op post but the general question is would u buy another game thats the same for 40 bucks
if i like the game enough ima buy it.
no one plays shadow mode so thats 10 bucks im not gonna spend.
i only brought jill and shuma to try em out. not buying em for umvc3
don’t matter if its a second version of the game or the thrid version. if you like the seris enough you’ll buy it. im not looking at characters or stages, im looking at gameplay/balance and tweeks to the game that makes it enjoyable.
and if you buy the DLC content they give you TIME so you can decided whether u want it or not. espically if you have no money went comes out.
if your not ok with getting a game you feel is the same then don’t get it. it’ll take alot of stress off your life about this. if you get it then take a deep breath and think about if you want to enjoy this or not.
