Would you like to see ST/HDR at EVO 2011?

Any SF2 is fine. Even CE, with noob-friendly Dictator. SF2 is completing its 20th anniversary this March, and deserves great respect. Infinite respect. Now I would rather have some noble US citizen organizing some X-Mania-like major tournament than knowing some people will have it as just a side tournament. SF2 deserves more than a side-tournament.

This kinda goes in line with what I brought up in my previous post. Why is it that people who follow a particular game are so desperate for Evo or whoever to feature their game, like doing so would add some credibility to it? Are side tournaments not enough? What is it about having a game in the “official” Evo lineup makes it that much better and more important? Is it the fact that you can see it on stage? If that’s the case, I feel bad for every game not called SF4, because in the past, outside of final 8 there was almost nothing for them on stage or in the stream either, I believe. All weekend, all you get is about an hour or so of stage time. This is worth it? Is it something else that I’m missing that makes it so vital that SF2 or any other non-official Evo game be recognized “officially”?

Like I said, Evo made it painfully obvious that it doesn’t care about SF2 or any other game outside of what they announced for their lineup. I don’t see anything constructive in trying to change their minds. In the age of SF4 and MvC3, I can promise you that a SF2 game won’t get the love that you desperately seek, even if it was in the lineup. Your best best to organize something yourselves if you want it so bad for Evo.

A better suggestion beyond that would be like the poster above mentions: to organize a SF2-themed major, where you can run it and promote as you please. X-Mania and Darkstalkers Combination Cup are perfect examples of this that I’m surprised hasn’t been adopted outside of Japan yet. I don’t think I’ve ever seen something like that done domestically for SF2 before. No need to include tons of other games, just whatever you feel like playing in the SF2 family (ST, HDR, Hyper Fighting, etc). Make it worth people’s time to attend these, much like Season’s Beatings or ECC did for mvc2. I’m sure there are other examples for other games that have been done in the U.S. before, but the point is you shouldn’t expect Evo to cater to SF2 anymore. It’s a niche game right now whether or not you choose to believe it.

^ Nice. How about domestically aka USA, where most of the posters here live and play? Never been to France before - is the ST that much better and more popular there for some reason? I mean, good shit to you guys for getting something like this but it doesn’t seem to make a ton of sense to me.

edit - haha. First post after the thread starts calls that out.

I honestly think some folks don’t understand what EVO is…

An bernie I just ready your post… spot on indeed.

All a matter of how dedicated you are.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Play what you want to play, but if a game needs to be showcased at Evo to have a scene, it’s probably already dead.

ST please!

Any SF2 presence is welcome in my book.

WOW talk about a subject still generating so much gossip, 150 votes in a week is awesome 95,33 % of the voters are in favor of a comeback of either ST or HDR. Again Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote and show their love for Street fighter.

ST was the best SF2.
Until HDR came with its balance changes to make ST even better.

The fighting of HDRvsST in this community, and the negative reaction to Zangief winning EVO (which was probably the pinnacle of truth that HDR is more balanced than ST) last year made EVO take notice of the hate hardcore ST fanboys have for HDR. Thus driving another nail into the heart of SF2 @ EVO.
If there’s a vocal hate for a game, especially one that’s not a new game, then why would EVO have it?

I will be there for ST and any 3s side event, otherwise see you guys at the bar.
ps. I cannot believe F*%$# mortal kombat is in this lineup. Turning into a kid games event imo. who cares if its new . f*^% it throw in that dance game for xbox kinect, or guitar queer lol. Im sure you will get lots of people to enter $$$$. praise to the new mvc3 and ssf4 and Tekken games though…long live Fighters.

The reason HDR gets so much hate is people don’t like their sacred cows being turned into steak.

The roots of fighting game tournies is SF2, and there should always be a version of that at EVO (or whatever the national tourney is in the future) as far as I’m concerned.

If I go to Evo this year I’ll play any version of SFII available. We should try and make it interesting and get some money matches going (outside of the event of course) Now taking any challengers, My Chun vs the world =P

There’s a Blanka player at the top of the most competitive ranbat in Japan, I guess that’s the pinnacle of truth that ST is more balanced than HDR.

There’s a Blanka player that plays HDR thats made top 8 just about every time he shows up. How often does Cammy show up in the top 8 in St? Not saying one is better than the other but I feel HDR is more balanced. I play both and I feel HDR is balanced a bit better but thats not saying ST is bad just not as balanced over all.

I think the biggest problem with HDR was that it wasn’t an official Capcom release and for that it go shunned. Sirlin is a scape goat because he’s accessible to the public. I cant fault him for trying to make a game for the people with changes that people where asking for (a few they didn’t) but I think it’s a fun game and it’s not broken even with it issues between the Xbox and the PS3 version they are very much playable at a tournament level.

That said if the community wants to go back to the OG ST than I’ll go too just so I can kick all your whining asses

ST For Lyfe!

I’m sure I’ll get “jap dickrider” responses, but a Blanka or Cammy player doing well in the US isn’t as decisive as someone doing the same in Japan, since the competition is so much fiercer there. Considering that AFO Blanka had to face the likes of Muteki, Sasori etc. and is on the same rank as Nuki and Shiki, I’d say that’s much better proof in favor of ST’s balance.

Anyways, I’d rather see HDR than no SF2 at Evo.

Mike Creque got top 8 with Cammy all the time in ST majors back when he was still in the scene. Of course, if there’s nobody actively playing a character, then there’s not much opportunity for that character to reach top 8… It’s sort of like folks asking how often T.Hawk shows up in top 8 in US ST and then lo and behold, it happens when someone puts in practice.

Now, game balance is separate issue that I’d rather not discuss at this point. Suffice to say that in both games, every character has had someone that’s made top 8 in majors when that player was actively competing.

I buy that, just a shame these guys all gave up :frowning:

So I got a question about the ST cab going to EVO. What joystick setup be on the ST cab and Will I be able to play my custom stick on it? I’ve gotten used to playing on my JLW with the round gate setup along with my Seimitsu buttons. I’ve never been able to play on a Square gate it just seems wrong after growing up on Happs all my life. The JLW is pretty much the perfect alternative to the Happ setup in my opinion and the Seimitsu buttons seem to be more responsive, because the Sanwas feel too soft and mushy to me.

I know in the old days we just played what we where given but I never came across a square gate so it wasn’t really an issue plus those days are over now that everyone has their own sticks.

I could also use a JLF with a round gate if thats the only option.

I just want don’t want to be at a dis-advantage while I go through each of you guys, unless you prefer that
