It could work. I wouldn’t mind seeing a a game that was a mix between VF2 and VF4. Then again you could play VF4(and onward)without using evades, so yeah…
VF would still be able to distinguish itself if a game this restricted was made. Tekken? Nope. SC and DOA would, with SC being the more unique between the two.
I’d play more Virtua Fighter if more people around me played Virtua Fighter or if the online was better (especially on PSN.)
I think a bunch of these people already like and or play 3D, it’s just the idea of taking sidestep and 8-way run is just an unpopular idea from those that already like it. I like 3D and taking away sidestep will not bring in more people and will not make the game as appealing to those that already do.
Control isnt so much an issue. Not less than in 2D fighters.
3D fighters used to appear in arcades with top of the line hardware. Games like MK4, Mace:the Dark Age, Soulcalibur etc.
They were popular not only because of the gameplay but because of their amazing graphics. Regarding gameplay they were still a lot of problems.
A lot of money was spent on their development.
But now a 3D fighter appears in underpowered hardware and you read that its graphics suck but gameplay is good…
Just like it happens now with 2D fighters like the new Guilty Gear and KOF, same has to happen with 3D fighters. Ironic that 2d fighters change more than 3d fighters.
Use top hardware and make them relevant again. Make the game more realistic both in movement and controls.
but 3D fighters can become too expensive in order to use their full potential.
