the point is that he could get in trouble, not that the stuff is so offensive on its own.
Think of the scenario: “My girls middleschool student, who for some reason I have contact with. I’m totally gonna show her this T&A game.” Its not that it’ll traumatize the kid (hell internet porn), its that he could get boned.
Pretty sure it doesn’t matter how SGs looks, if it had a Capcom label and Ryu in there, it’d sell like hotcakes. SKULLGIRLS VS RYU, COMING SOON.
Nah for real, I didn’t like the art style at first but after playing the game a lot (because I like the mechanics and art isn’t the most important thing to me), the aesthetics have really grown on me. It has a lot of personality absent in games as of late.
It’s really quite ironic that you’re calling me a ‘kid’ considering you have the most infantile understanding of gender issues I’ve ever seen in a human being.
Wait a minute I don’t understand. His girlfriends kid who is a middle school student? Or his girlfriend is a teach and for some reason he has contact with one of her students?
No idea how you are the only one who understands this. Doesn’t matter how I feel about the artwork is how others could potentially perceive and the fact that a lot of the imagery will most likely not be interpreted as “oh lol titties, totally making fun of fanservice. its ok go on your way.” It is insanely obvious that a chunk of the people here are either on some level stupid or 15 because the things you can say to a child in an educational setting are very low.
Shit I have to edit the list of comic books I recommend kids because I love me some Vertigo. If I tell a middle schooler to read either Transmet or Preacher, they take it to school, gets confiscated and tracked back to my girlfriend, shit would not be pretty. Which sucks because they are at that age that they want to be exposed to cool stuff. But you can’t treat them like the adults they are becoming, you have to deal with them like the children they no longer will be in 2 years.
My girlfriend is an orchestra teacher. I help her during fund raisers, concerts, contests, etc.
Honestly, the art style is amazing but the context associate with this art style (sexy women) is a tad bit overwhelming for most people and initially turned me off. The only thing that brought me back was the discovery that this was an amazingly well constructed fighting game after I did more research on it.
I’m positive that if people knew how solid the game mechanics were, skull girls would be receiving a hoard of new players. We’ll simply have to hope that support from well known people and word of mouth will suffice in bringing in the audience.
Skullgirls really is quite sexualized, and seems to be fetish-fodder for the artist. But most stuff is, when you get right down to it.
It doesn’t mean that people that like the art are bad people, or that it’ll poison kids minds, but at the same time, its worth being aware that some people will think it’s not great.
I always end up wishing that Game fans would be like Alice Cooper fans 40 (god I’m old) years ago (or Twisted Sister fans 30 years ago, or 2 Live Crew fans 20 years ago…). “Yeah, in your face you old squares!”
Lol, I know, adorable isn’t it? Gives me a chance to be playfully condescending.
The world’s bigger than Shoryuken, my friend. Not all big games are constantly streamed everywhere – hell a lot of the most beloved games never saw stream action. Comparatively speaking, the whole stream thing isn’t really that old and only just became a standardized thing.
As I was schooled on very recently, Smash Brothers has bigger numbers than most traditional fighters combined – but I don’t think there’s been more than 4-5 streams for that in the past year or so.
Yeah, it’s a shame some people don’t feel like looking into this just because of the presentation. There are some real gems that people could find if they try to be a bit more optimistic. Ah well, people suck, what can you do. v(´-`)v
It does kind of hit on why presentation is so important though. Staying true to your vision is great and all, but if it means people don’t play your game, what’ve you gained? (except satisfaction I guess)
