Would skullgirls do better if

Happens a lot… feel like I just had this conversation, but Wind Waker was a vastly superior Zelda game cast aside because of its graphical stylings.

to be honest, an all female cast IS a turn-off for some ppl [to a degree, even me]. character background story / looks / behavior etc DOES matter as shallow as it might seem. you need to have a favorite that you like and stick to, to actually get into the game.

I can understand the “we want to contradict the mostly-male cast”, but an “only female cast” is equally bad. that male chars gonna be included only makes this seem worse at first, as that means there could have been some in the start roster. should have been 6-2 for a starters. at least the DLC chars will fix that.
or you stick to the girls only and keep it at that.

KOF is good. Marvel is a shitty game. SF(4) is bad. BB is dead. MK isn’t a competitive game.

They actually have quite a bit. It’s just that Smash majors/regionals pull in around 100 viewers during grand finals on a good day (unless they add other fighting games to get sponsors and have a member of the FGC to help them with a stream like APEX).

I think though, we’re talking more about larger ones specifically like Apex. I think a lot of games get smaller streams, particularly in the form of weeklies and such that only locals really watch/pay attention to.

Add some internet memes in Skullgirls and the game will sell even more.

See that actively annoys me.

They need to not make such obviously transparent excuses. They’re not contradicting anything, they wanted to draw girls.

That’s kind of the general lesson though, making fake-ass sounding excuses only draws the predators in.

It would have sold twice as many copies if it had 4 male characters, 4 female characters and was called SkullStone (SkullHeart is just gay).

Honestly, people should realize that for casuals(aka the ones who buy most of the stuff), visuals pay a HUGE part. Knowing how solid the mechanics are will not bring in new players since this generation is full of entitled people who expect to win without having to work, which is why MvC3 appeals the most to casuals. You can press 7 buttons and do a half life combo.

It might seem shallow, but before getting into a fighting game, you don’t intensively look up the mechanics unless you’re a pro. You look up videos of the characters and if you like the artstyle and the characters, you try it out. That is how I got into blazblue and TvC, I literally had no idea of the mechanics. I was like “woah, that looks cool!”, not “hmmm, this game has some deep and compelling mechanics like instant blocking”.

Solid mechanics in FGs are good for keeping the players in your fanbase and making sure they purchase the next version, not so much when it comes to attracting new players.
Considering gamers these days are all about the big buff badass protagonists, it’s going to be pretty hard for SG to bring in a whole slew of new players with it’s all female cast.

I am not even sure why but A LOT of casual gamers have weird reactions when they even see a female character. I remember last year in rez, I was playing BB and SF4 online and people would barge in my room to chill or get me to go out, and the reaction 90% of the time was “Why are you playing a girl? The guy with the sword/scar/headband/nail on his back is so much cooler.” Shit, some people even had the gall to tell me that Dante is girly and that they couldn’t play a game with a girly main. I also know some dudes who refused to give Bayonetta a try because "I don’t wanna play as a slut/whore/stripper/insert demeaning word here*

Basically, i’m trynna say that most people are retarded and would let a quality game slip out of their hand for the most asinine reasons. I could guarantee you that a game with the same exact mechanics and more “manly/cool” characters would be garnering a lot of attention

Showing that games can also be an art form, not just projects that try to please everyone and that focusing in on a specific market segment to make a specialty product can also be successful.

I mean, if you’re aiming to sell as many copies as you can, you sure as hell wouldn’t be making a fighting game.

Well, I’m sure Mike Z expected this to hit a niche audience with hopes of gaining SOME sort of interest from those random gamers, so they probably didn’t have competing with UMvC3 or AE in mind. They just wanted to sell an alternative, which is fine if that was their goal.

Jesus XES do you even play this game or did you debate club get cut?

GAH

Lol, touche’

I played it, stopped, then played it again for a bit, and then stopped again :stuck_out_tongue:

Honestly, I find these kind of subjects endlessly fascinating, and just love to talk about them. I stay out of you guys general threads for a reason, y’know

I’m easy to please I guess all I want is combos

It’s really odd hearing people complaining it’s not a all ages game.
One would think that could be appreciated by itself.

You’re in every thread about female characters bashing females characters talking about how much better dudes are.

it’s great. it means we don’t have to deal with squeakers who THINK they know what they’re talking about. Every game has them. It’s a fact. If there is anything more annoying than a squeaker its one who tries to lecture you on fighting games. Unless they are actually competent like that one who was at EVO or whatever 2 years back

was a funny line tho ><

HomophobeXTekken, with the Mandora mode comeback mechanic. Causes all the men to grow more muscles and their brows to slant a little more when you activate it. #1 selling fighting game title of all time. Screw this girly girl skullgirls shit that all the fags are playing.

Also Zidane was a tosser. second only to Tidus and Vaan.
