Well, i wouldn’t say im new to fighting games, but lets say im taking a step from casual gaming (button mashing) up to some serious gaming(starting to use strategies now :nunchuck: ) . I’ve stocked up on all my street fighter compilations, MvC2, CvS2, and KOF XI for ps2. Also I’ve finally got myself a nice joystick with some happ buttons and a happ stick. I was planning on doing some practice at home and start playing against people at the arcades. However, after reading around some, I read that apparently MvC2 for Ps2, my main game at the arcade, is a poor port of the arcade version and my timings would be off once i switched over. I was just wondering why everyone says this. No one really specified >_> I mean is it worth it to trade in my Ps2 MvC2 for a dreamcast, an MvC2, and a Ps2 to Dreamcast controller converter? How do the other Ps2 ports compare to their arcade versions as well?
oorrr…u could play mcv2 on ur pc using a dc emu
Can’t speak from personal experience about the porting job, but I was snooping around a bit and didn’t see anything about the PS2 port of MvC2 being bad. However, I can speak from personal experience that I had no problem playing MvC2 at the arcade after learning it on the Xbox.
If you’ve got the stick and the game already (game is rare enough as is), just stick with what you own.
Yeah, the dreamcast is worth getting. You can find used ones for around $25 bucks or so and there are more copies of MvC2 available too or you can always do the download thing. Nonetheless, DC versions of MvC2, Capcom vs SNK 2, & SF3 are as close to the arcade as you can get.
you don’t have to trade anything in. Pretty sure you can find a DC that will play burned games for 20$ in your area. Try the flea market in your area or locally owned used video game stores. Gamestop doesn’t carry them anymore unfortunately.
Can’t tell where to get burned games or how to do it, but the dreamcast is notorious for being able to play free games.
mvc2, ST, and iirc, cvs2 are all tourney worthy games on the DC.
ps2 port wasnt arcade perfect unlike the dreamcast. the dreamcast included all the “glitches” and the timing was perfect. i think its worth it
I bought a DC last week, I only regret waiting this long to have done so.
Or not.
Buy one. Cheap and wonderful .
You uploaded a bunch on snesorama, right? Thanks for that, haha.
you can get one and make a custom mvc2
Play new games.
It is totally worth it to get a DC. It’s the best system I’ve ever owned, especially if you’re into Fighters and Shmups from the era. Most games can be bought for cheap, but if you go the DL route I wouldn’t sweat your karma, no body except collectors are making money off of the DC so download away.
Because all new games are great, right? Sorry for the sarcasm–I actually agree with you, in general newer games are great, but some of the older games are fantastic. Plus DC is the only route if you want to play SF III NG or DI. Capcom’s fighters run flawlessly on the DC, I think it’s worth the $20 for the system, $xx for the stick and I’m sure you’ve got some blank CDs laying around.
You didn’t look very hard.
I own a DC. But I don’t use it. And yes I have all the “staple” DC games.
The DC version of ST is obsolete. CvS2 won’t be seen at evo anymore and will likely be phased out of the tourney seen altogether not to mention despite what a lot of fanboys say, The marvel scene is a dying breed. It won’t stay around forever. It maybe has a year or 2 left.
No one plays NG or DI competitively anymore. They have no reason to. If you wanna play MvC1 you go on GGPO. Same with KOF98, Vampire Saviors and a few others probably.
Alpha 3? Buy Alpha Anthologies and play any of them + Pocket Fighter.
Mark of the Wolves gets some play still but it isn’t worth mentioning. It can barely get a 8 player turn out at Evo. But then again, that’s every SNK game.
I am not saying the DC is a bad system at all. It made a lot of things possible for the fighting game scene. But it had it’s time. As did the games we played on it.
Play new games.
For 20-30 bones, why not? I have six DCs laying around. Marvel, all day.
It’s been almost 10 years now, the DC has had it’s time I’m afraid.
Street Fighter IV, KOF XII, etc.
We need to support the new stuff and stop living in the past but the DC will always hold a place in all of our hearts I’m sure.
Uh, no.
Whats this shit about people saying “old games need to die” when there are still god knows how many fucking people playing ST?
