Worth getting a dreamcast?!

People who can’t move on. Just play STHD or Download arcade perfect Vanilla ST on GGPO if you are still turned on by it. STHD also has a classic/arranged mode, whatever the fuck you want to call it as well. So there is always that route. As I mentioned before the DC version is obsolete and pretty much trash. Same with the PS2 version.

A lot of people have Multiple DC’s cause the eyes break or give out, system failure, controller ports breaking because of shitty MAS Sticks. Evo staff replaces their DC’s almost every year. In my ST pool we went through 5 different DC’s before we found one that worked.

Since I’ve gotten my ps3 I haven’t touched my ps2, dc or snes.

Werd.

^ That’s why you have GGPO. You can play Vanilla ST on it arcade perfect plus you won’t have people complaining how the DC version has a “weird aspect ratio, so that’s why I’m missing my cross-ups etc.”

What the fuck does this even mean? So just because new games are out and scenes are dwindling, he should completely ignore anything and everything that came out on DC? Do people forget how awesome those games were? Why deprive yourself of experiencing the goodness first hand?

So people think new games are the shit? Aside from SFIV, please believe you won’t be playing KOFwhatever or TVC for ten years straight like we did for Marvel, ST, CVS2, and SFIII. Very solid games overall that all fighting game fans should enjoy at least once.

Yeah, I hate that. Nobody is forced to stop liking old games because there are new ones out.

DC is the most underrated system in the history of…systems.

A must have for any fighting game fan.

Hmmm. I believe there are still reasons out there that justify the purchase of a Dreamcast when it comes to fighting games.

Yes, ST has better alternatives these days for PS3 / 360 owners or even the PC users. However, being able to re-burn it with, say, the OCRemix soundtrack is cool stuff, and it gets a good amount of play-time from me; Same goes for MvC2. Granted, the PS2 version’s music can be replaced as well, but you’d need some way to boot a backup PS2 disc. DC does that right out of the box, so it gets a point for accessibility. Also, I’ve heard that the DC MvC2 is one of the best versions of the game available, but please don’t quote me on that.

3S isn’t the best for arcade practice on DC, but being able to experience the versions prior is always a thrill. I suppose one could hook up a PC to the TV and sound system for a nice visual experience, but unless you’ve got a laptop and the right cables, it’s way more convenient on the Dreamcast. This isn’t a very big point, but it’s just one reason I like having my 'Cast around.

Overall, I say the DC is worth the 20-30 bones you’ll lay out for it. It does, of course, have a fantastic library of games other than fighters, so I’d suggest looking into those as well if you do end up nabbing one.

Finally, I know I can’t afford a PS3 or 360 right now, so in terms of ST, this is one of my favorite systems.

Have a good one!

As mentioned earlier, if you don’t already have a DC and have never really had the chance to play Mark of the Wolves then I say go for it. The game is fantastic and (in my opinion) the best fighter SNK ever made. It’s in my top ten for sure. Last Blade 2 is great also. Sure, you can play these games on PC and if you’ve got a way to connect it to your TV then go for it, but if you don’t then a $20 dreamcast is well worth the asking price.

Games off the top of my head:
SFIII NG, DI, and 3rd Strike
MvC 1 and 2
Last Blade 2
KOF 99, 2000, 2002
SF Super Turbo
Rival Schools 2 (i think)
and there’s that other game i think it’s Star Gladiator or Plasma Sword
Power Stone 1 and 2

Non-fighting but worth playing if you like shooters
Ikaruga
Mars Matrix (capcom)

I wouldn’t be concerned with the tournament viability of any of these games…the DC is a console for playing on when you’ve got some buddies and TV–bam tons of fun.

In general, I’m against the “new games are coming out, stop playing old ones” notion.

Just because some big ass tournament may stop hosting a particular game in the future does NOT make it obsolete, given you are a logical human being who can think for himself and doesn’t follow every whim of the “new generation”.

And when I brought up ST, I wasn’t just talking about it on DC, I meant the entirety of the population that still plays it in general. 2DF, GGPO, DC, PS2, Xbox, whateverthefuck.

Edit: If I can find a working Lightgun for DC, I’m gonna put that copy of HOTD2 I made to better use. It’s an awesome game, but fucking playing with a controller. Died at the 4th chapter boss, such bullshit.

Dangmug, you’re thinking of Plasma Sword. Star Gladiator was on the PS1.

And the only way I’m abandoning my DC is having it pried from my cold dead hands… or if MvC1 and Project Justice get re-released for a modern system.

I’ll quit playing marvel when they release something thats actually worth a shit.

until then, fuck your new games.

I would have said something like this, but I was trying to be nice.

Yeah, what he said.

Also, my DC “once in a while” resets and goes back to the DC menu in the middle of a game, but after it happens once or twice before I really started my game, it’s fine for the rest of my session. I’m forgiving about stuff like that, given that I actually can play MVC2 at home.

For fighters it was the best shit ever in those years, now… not so much, because of the alternatives, but DC still got the best Marvel 2 and CVS2 versions… and also Rival Schools 2 and Power Stone 1/2 who you cant find it on any console (just PSP).

But if you ask me “worth getting a Dreamcast?” i say “oh fuck yes” not because of the fighters, but the Shooters.

I have a dreamcast I bought it this year, in the age of HD gaming. What can I say? it is like owning most of Xbox Live arcade for 40 bucks.

i have a dreamcast for sell here on the forums. come talk to me!
i have 2 of it so one for sell, and i still play so many games on it. it’s so much fun.

whoever left me rep for my av, thanks!

There are a ton of amazing games on the DC and they can all be burned. Buying a cheap DC will give you access to all of them and TDC disks. So yeah, its a great investment.

The DC is one of the greatest game systems ever made.
We have GGPO for ST and 3S, and HD remix is out. Also a few other moderately popular games are on GGPO and 2DF.

But DC is still the best place for MvC2, SF3DI (if you really want to play that) and CVS1 and 2. Also Rival Schools and Powerstone. All already mentioned.

There are also a load of cool games on Dreamcast you wont find anywhere once you dig through its catalog. Unique stuff. Alot of really amazing games were made for the Japanese market which we never got.

I also have to mention Shenmue and Jet Set Rado. These two games are must play, especially Shenmue which is easilly one of the top ten console games ever produced. They need to rerelease Shenmue 1 and 2 on next gen with updated graphics and a part 3 added, right now!!!

The only console I have ever devoted as much hours to as the DC was the SNES.

Project Justice FTW.

Party up.
