I mean any game. At least Mortal Kombat decided to differentiate the ninjas now. I don’t feel nostalgiac when I see it. Should they bring back distance fog for nostalgia? Complete lack of textures for ground/walls?
It’s lazy and I hates it.

As long as the palette swapping isn’t too egregious, I don’t see the problem with it honestly.
Palette swapping, I think, is a combination of tradition and laziness.
ha i just assumed you meant RPG’s cause i figured you couldnt be insisting that Ryu have 6 different distinct costumes (youre not right?)
and distance fog and non textured walls/ground is all 3d rendered laziness. 3d rendered games don’t age nearly as well as sprite rendered so no i have no nostalgia for that crap. the way i look at it, its hard enough getting anything in sprite based art anymore, if they want to include a couple different colored slimes, I’m ok with that. you’re gonna see every monster a million times anyway while youre grinding.
I’d rather we get rid of it period, including in real life. Far too often I find occasion to step outside and ask due to the poor weather, “…Holy crap, when did reality migrate to the Turok engine?”
I didn’t play it, so i don’t know what kind of plot device they could have put in the game that make some people to hate it
What happened
No I don’t mind characters getting different costumes in that sense. But when you start making another ryu with black skin instead, and call him Mitsu, or some shit, then it gets lazy. Like Sub-Zero/Scorpion/Reptile, in the early MK games. Fucking lazy fucks. Or like you guys mentioned, RPG games where you fight Goblin, then Fire Goblin, then Dire Goblin, then Uber Goblin, and all they do is change the fucking colour. I was shocked in Diablo 3 that they barely have any different enemies, just different pallette swaps of shit you fought earlier in the game.
It’s lazy, unoriginal, and a slap in the face. You spend 1-10 years working on a game, and can’t take a little extra time to just make more monsters, or at least find some other way of making a character different besides change their colour? Add a hat, or armor, or something. Just changing a colour is extremely lazy, and I view it as the makers of the game don’t care enough about the end product. If you’re lazy there, where else in the programming/design were you lazy???
Read at your own risk.
SO3 Plot Twist
Basically, the world you’re living in is one giant MMO, though that might be simplifying things a bit. The problem that most people have with this is that it invalidates the first two games. The plot twist works better when you put it into proper context, but most people don’t even bother after the reveal.
I’m actually OK with the plot twist, because up until that moment, the story was as cliche as it got. It at least makes you think about some things.
I can understand pallet swaps in RPGs. It takes time to draw the sprites or or make the 3D models. Considering the shear volume of enemies you face in an RPG it’d be cost prohibitive to make completely no models for each one.
I don’t give a shit about spoilers so here’s what happened. The entire universe is nothing but a damn video game. Obviously created by some person. The characters(everyone is AI) you play and characters you fight/meet became self aware. As such they’re like people. The creator or GOD doesn’t like this and plans to wipe everyone out.
This is one of those things that I think should have died a long time ago, along with random encounters. Personally, I don’t believe that random encounters were created due to technical limitations. I think games back then very well could have had nonrandom encounters. Zelda 2 had them.
Nowadays, they do not even have to try THAT hard.
Look at SF4.
And, worse, SFXT.
Fuck spoilers game is old as shit. Basically you are a video game character who is to be played by other people, somehow you broke out though. It completely invalidates the other 2 Star Ocean games as well. So basically you are playing a video game who is playing a video game, it is lame as shit.
Also, is it just me or are there like only 3 body types in all of the current Mortal Kombat?
The original Mortal Kombat motion capture actors did multiple characters. They havent rebooted body type like how Capcom did with the SF franchise.

You get the jist.
I never knew there was a reason for
Well that’s more of a reason than I was expecting.
Which is why theres nobody fat in Mortal Kombat (if you ever noticed)
You can argue Bo Rai Cho but Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance was trash and Boon is acting like all of those characters never existed. Minus Blind Kenshi, the ONLY character since MK4 that had a real place in the series.
The Twist
[details=Spoiler]Plot Twist, you’re in a MMO the entire time. All the characters you’ve played in the SO series have been nothing more than digital characters of another game.
To make matters worse, when asked to talk to the people who “designed” you’ll, it becomes a huge joke. Fighting the secretary as a boss battle for the gaming company that designed your characters in-game with some serious music playing during the dialog… I… I fuckin’ couldn’t.
And then the ending… omfg… out of a scale from 1 to 10 on anime endings, holy shit this has to be THE worse.
[spoiler=The Ending]Because they believed hard enough, they became ‘real people’[/details]

When a character fucking lags it to walk. I mean I understand that a character is telling you important things when walking with you but they walk slow as hell, Then it get’s worse when let’s just you have to open a door only the npc can open but he lags it from walking so damn slow.
Fucking this. This pissed me off when I played Double Dragon Neon. There’s no fucking reason for the Lee Brothers to continue to be swaps of each other. It’s more striking when the enemies have more variety. They had the time to give the dominatrix different outfits and hairstyles but Lee brothers are still stuck in 86.
