Worst (Tiers) Character in a Fighting Game?

Garou Mark of the Wolves (3S’s sexy cousin that no one heard of. If 3S was the kid that went to college and became a billionaire Stock Broker, Garou is the cousin who went to NYU, became an Artist and became a Hipster who spends their days in Coffee Shops making Art and reading the Huffington Post).

Tizoc- Grappling character whose game suffers from a glitch that makes throws pretty useless if people are in T.O.P mode (Mode when your heath is at a certain point set by the player that allows for things like new moves and other cool stuff). He has no anti-air making him jump bait, he is no real threat outside of his command grab game, he cannot get in safely, he has high health but the health differences in Garou are minor at best, the game has a tendency to make a ton of moves Safe on block for no logical reason(Gato’s moves, B.Jenet’s Divekick) meaning that punishing with a command grab can be a chore at times.

He’s a poorly designed grappler. His throws are scary but he doesn’t have the tools to execute a gameplan that makes them scary. People run from Zangief and he bullies them, people run up to Tizoc and bully him.

Still love him though.

The other two bad characters are Rock and Freeman. Rock has no high-low game, low health, an easily stuffed DP and plays like a terrible mixture of Geese and Terry where all of his moves are 1/2 as effective as they should be. I honestly don’t know enough about Freeman to say why he is bad except that his counter super is very hard to use since it has little priority(like most Supers in Garou and SNK games in general, they can be easily stuffed.)

I don’t believe in tier lists. It is how you play the character that counts. I use Dictator exclusively and he is supposedly mid tier, but the way I use him makes him Broken Tier.

Joker was never godtier. He’s one of the character in the game that needs work

As far as I know the dude on page 1 who said Gold Lightan had it right. Lightan had several 0-10 matchups in that game - it was literally impossible for him to hit Zero unless Zero just held forward, and Casshern could punish the startup of any of his moves with heavy dive kick which is one of the only moves in the game that lets you start true combos on the giants. Not to mention that he’s kind of designed as a grappler (I guess? He’s more just designed as a shitty Lego brick) and you can easily mash out of any of his throws on reaction (before they do any damage) by just…mashing every button and direction.

As Hawkingbird mentioned above, he was never good, but a lot of people thought that if someone could master his parry mechanic he could be dangerous (turned out they were mostly wrong).

Don’t you talk shit about my character. Those grapples were some of the most satisfying things in fighting games.

Actually I just went back and watched some of that game…those animations have not aged well.

that first week of release, people thought his crowbar was the new Haggar Pipe, then realized Injustice was more about staying full screen and using heat vision or Deathstroke guns.

It’s been awhile, but wasn’t everybody in MK3 shit except for Kabal?

The Ball in gundam battle assault 2

Doing Fullscreen Psycho Crushers and wake-up EX head stomps on scrubs does not make you a good player.

Nope, Kabal and Human Smoke were top, but there was a really viable Hihg and mid tier with characters like Ermac, Reptile, Kung Lao, Kano, Nightwolf, Robot Smoke, Jax, and Sindel

If the current mentions have showed me anything, it is that making a slow grappler is a surefire way to fill out your low tier.
If you want to break the game, just give the character a lot of mobility and tools in exchange for health. Works every time.

You are right. I play too many scrubs.

AE Zangief disagrees, among others

meanwhile you have 3S Akuma who has great tools and mobility but low health and is a good character but certainly doesn’t “break the game”

I think it’s pretty silly to be drawing any big conclusions from a thread like this tbh

AE Gief is better than his other incarnation BECAUSE he is less of a grappler and more of a bruiser with throw set ups, ala VSav Victor or Sasquatch.
The low health thing more goes in line with how vastly overrated health tends to be by the dev team. If a character has really high health, you wind up losing range, mobility, and have to deal with a large hurtbox. Low health characters, by contrast, end up having much superior versions of those things than big characters, which winds up making life hell for anyone who has to try and fight these “pixies”. At the high level, characters are tiered by the exact things grapplers/bigs sacrifice, which almost always winds up giving them the short end of the stick at high level play.

That sounds exactly like a Super Smash Bros Brawl player.

Really? How so?

I believe the memes “Tires don exits”(sic) and “Tiers are for queers” come to mind.

Was there anyone more ass than Shingo in KOFXI? I often found myself askin’, “Why do I like this guy so much, why is he even in this game? Maybe I like the way he screams Shingo Kick?”

Then they finally do give’im the axe, along with Oswald and Adelheid, then I’m leik, “Thanks for removin’ my whole fuckin’ team from existence, they do this to me every other year!!”

I recall Kasumi having a lot of problems in KOFXI.
Interestingly enough, Kasumi is a complete monster in 02UM.

I’m super late with the 3S conversation, but Twelve isn’t the worst character. He’s just a bad character that’s really annoying.

Sean is definitely the worst. Even in his own ending, Ken wins the tournament and Sean gets beat in the qualifiers.

No character is as useless as Roll is in MvC2.

I’ve yet to hear of any examples that will dissuade me from that fact.

Potemkin would like to have a word with you

At the arcade I go to two guys both played Twelve with XCOPY, it was a pretty funny match up.
