I don’t know what killed A3. But I don’t think 3S killed it. I think people just got bored with it and it died out. I never hear anybody talk about A3. Nobody is ever is saying how much they love the game or hate the game. With 3S, people either totally love it or totally hate it but its getting regularly talked about. With ST, CvS2 and MvC2 people either love the game or respect it but don’t play it.
It’s possible that SF4 will totally overtake the 3S crowd because of some similarities between the games. SF4 uses a lot of things that the 3S crowd likes (EXs, dashes, Saving attacks (parry-like)). The only thing SF4 lacks is the unique 3S characters. As long as Urien, Makoto and the rest stay exclusive to 3S, the game may never die out. Who knows…
i think is regularly talked because there is people still playing it
well, if they try to mantain sf4 in a story wise way, then we wont see the chars of sf3, hopefully knowing capcom and their tradition of making revisions and copy themeselves, we would posibly see some chars that play in a similar way to them (maybe the father of makoto), or they will add a few (like oro and hugo), like they do in sf3.
as far as i know sf3 is mostly played because is the more recent iteration of the sf series, at least here where i live, we will see if it owned the category of sf2 in the hearts of the fans when sf4 is released
…what combos? The only thing worth doing in SF1 was trying to throw a fireball/srk/hurricane kick. The hits you took while you constantly repeated the motions were a small price to pay for the huge damage of the special when it finally came out.
Maybe not on here but a crap load of people on other sites shit on Marvel (I hear some calling it Marvel vs. Cable 2) and Super Turbo for being extremely outdated with its gameplay, and that Capcom vs SNK 2 is like a hanging nail that has to be taken down at EVO for “superior games”.(This paragraph isn’t from my opinions of these games just from what other people who don’t like them say. So don’t come flaming me on that when they aren’t my words/views in the first place).
People just don’t say it here because this site is dedicated towards Capcom heads. Similar to why nobody talks bad about GG and HNK at Dustloop or Garou and KoF’s at SNK sites.
Also you must remember that 3rd Strike will probably maintain a different “feel” then 4 as well as probably being remembered as “the last 2D Street Fighter Game”.
Well ya that’s what I meant.
The biggest worry lies in your statement. The Street Fighter name hasn’t been proven to be viable in the gaming market since a full decade ago (with that game barely scrapping a million in sales). And unlike say Sonic, the Street Fighter series was ran into the ground as games like well Street Fighter III and the EX series (later editions at least) didn’t sell well. This is not to mention that the fighting genre has been niche for almost a decade and is more niche now (at least in the West) then ever due to the fact that besides Super Smash Bros. Brawl and MAYBE Dead or Alive 4 (which I doubt) there hasn’t been one fighting game to pass the million mark and discounting those two games there hasn’t been one to pass the quarter million mark.
I’m not saying that the game CAN’T sell. After all Capcom is very well educated with selling their products. I’m just saying it isn’t GUARANTEED to sell.
I love A3. It’s still a great game and is the Marvel of the SF series, easily. What killed A3 was VC and CC infinites, IIRC. There was really no counter against V-ism unless you played a solid A-Sim or A-Guy. Either way, V-ism was the dominate ism in the game hands down. Japan and the UK ended up becoming beasts at the game and they still play A3 on both continents. A Japan vs. UK 5v5 would be pretty dope.
But yeah, A3 still gets love here in the states at Final Round and Midwest Championships. There are still a handful of players that still play the game here and there.
I think ramberk brings up a good point. Personally, I like 3s’ character design, combo/juggle system, ex moves, taunts, uohs, and just about everything except parry. I dislike the notion that I have to learn the parry timing for a very large chunk of moves just to be even semi competitive. That’s a skill that takes a large time investment, yet is virtually useless in almost every other fighting game. (No one uses P-groove in CVS2 and no one plays CFE)
I also dislike how parry works in general, and many times it’s the end all be all solution to every situation you can possibly be put in. It also forces you to use less optimal moves in order to “be random” which makes it even more needlessly complicated. Yes I do realize marvel has it’s own brand of bullshit too, and I’m not trying to act like it don’t stink. Still I think the best path is the one being taken by HD remix. No more gimmicky bullshit, no more road blocks. Everyone who wants to play just needs to learn their character’s moves and how to apply them properly.
No assist whoring, no millisecond kara and roll cancels, no parry timing, and no more gimmicks. Just pure and simple tactics and mind games. What SF is all about, or at the very least, what it should’ve been about all along.
Yeah, even though 3s is not my favorite game I still respect it and those who play it. It’s one of the most beautiful capcom games ever made, and although the gameplay is not my cup of tea it is no doubt complex and deep.
Marvel vs Cable 2 is my line:rofl:, but dont get me wrong, im not say that for talking shit on mahvel, is only to clarify the point that almos every team has a cable and 2 more marvel chars
yea id have to say for me the worst snk fighter is kof maximum impact some make comparisons of it with street fighter ex but its far worse than that.
i was able to enjoy sf ex on a casual level and maximum impact just feels wrong.
worst capcom fighter would probably be marvel vs capcom 1
You must be talking about the first Maximum Impact…why? because KOF MIRA is leagues better than both the first and the 2nd IMO and many peoples opinions…its actually a game for the hardcore player.
