My friend is a dedicated Cable player. He has takenn the art of evasion to a whole new level. So i finally got good enough to get past his normal Cable teams. Then he went to another level. He picked Cable/BH/Doom. So the start of the match goes like this…
If he escapes my hit at the beginning and i can’t snap in Doom then he calls Doom. He jumps and shoots to keep you from SJ’ing over to him. So of course I push block and airdash over above his head. Then he uses a grenade that i have to block right over his head. He calls doom again so that if i don’t block i get caught up in rocks and AHVB’d. So i have to avoid the rocks and try to SJ again and avoid the bullet that Cable will be shooting. I also have to watch out for BH’s anti-air thrown in for good measure. Once i actually get in i have to watch out for Cable’s crossups, random RH’s, and him just completely running away.
When BH starts there seems to be no good start for mags against him. This results in an amazing amout of blocking, chipping, push blocking, and frustration. So any help on taking this team out with MSP would be great.
SJing even a second later will allow you to avoid his gunshot. The fact that you have Psylocke over those two assists he has automatically gives you much more room to randomly call assist (being smart about it) and rush him. Don’t get discouraged if he’s only got one or two levels. If you can break down what he does like that, you can easily innovate your own game plan to fit his strategy. If he decides (stupidly) to punish your Psylocke call while only having a level, and at the same time you are not even near the same vertical level, you can easily air-dash over, hit him, and completely destroy his Cable. In this specific situation I just mapped out, BH won’t easily snuff you out of the air because your preemptive Psylocke call will either prevent him from doing it, or the BH’s assist call would have been so late that your Magneto can hit him on the way down. Just remember that he can only use Doom as a near-instant way to get you off of him when he has Cable out there on point, and even that isn’t going to work a hundred percent of the time if you’re smart with your timing.
With the BH fight, you have to be very patient. Blindly rushing in, hoping to hit with cr. lk + Psylocke is not going to get you anywhere consistently. Try to position yourself on BH’s open spots. Cable’s AA assist is a little easier to dodge if you switch sides and angle yourself where you land faster. If you successfully dodge a Cable AA clean, stay on that ass, and his defense will break one way or another. Use that to your advantage. Storm will undoubtedly have a much easier time fighting BH. Storm, actually, will be able to do the best against his entire team, IMO. Use that to your advantage.
Just work at it, and I’m sure results will improve.
yeah that is my worst matchup. BH/Cable teams. what you say makes sense. i was failing consistently with that team at around 6am after starting at 10pm. but still. I’m learning that MSP is a team that gets better with time but you have to take many beatings.
my friend also plays mega/Cable/doom and that team is nearly just as annoying.
thx buddy… i never thought of that. gee… i bet i should just do 50 hits of ROM reset and then do 50 more hits reset and then do 50 more hits and BH will be dead. why didn’t i think of that.\
but yeah… Mega/Tron/Cable is rough too. just a few mistimed sj dashes and you can be eating 5 or 6 megabusters and missing serious life
seems like you’re trying to get him from the top too much. Try not using your airdash predictably while in the air, or instead get in on the ground with
msp can have A LOT of bad matchups. IMO, the team is player dependent to an extent. It all depends on your current skill level and your matchup knowledge. Trap teams can keep mangeto out when he wants to come in and fight. Running away basically does the same thing. Zone characters like sentinel\cable\megaman can keep putting stuff in magneto’s way forcing him out of his comfort zone. Hell even low tier + tron combinations like cammy\psy ron can give magnus hell. They’re all different strategies which can make magnus work and force an error.
It can be really tough to sneak in on team preppy if you’re not patient enough. Once the rockball gets into the equation your angles then become a lot smaller for moving\dodging. And if megaman was effective during the fight, chances are he built bar for cable so you better watch your helpers. The team is really good in my book.
On all seriousness though, if your friend are playing Cable with no invincible AAA or even Capcom then you have the counter team, and a strong one at that. Just watch a few vids on Preppy’s and you will probably have the edge in no time. If he’s winning with those teams, he is simply a better player. So watch some vids, practice a little more, and play him a lot.
yeah… that retarded combo was for my man with the retarded advice.
but yeah Joe is a better player than me. But i know that MSP can pretty much match up with everyone and stand a decent 50% chance at least if played at top level. When he doesn’t pick Cable then my odds go up greatly. but when he does it is a lesson in how to get around everything he throws at you. So as i get better and play those teams regularly then i will get better. So here is what i’ve learned…
Randomly call Psy, don’t be predictable with my air dash, stay glued to cable and BH, get better. alright. well i’ll put all of that into practice.
you’re not supposed to call psy randomly. You’re supposed to use her in different spots to vary your attack patterns so you don’t become predictable. The more often she’s used properly, the more that free pressure adds up.
:u: words of gold right there. less is more =) i am about to start a thread actually touching on how to let your assists pave the way for you, but in the same turn, how to cover their ass to use them more often
edit: maybe not 2nite, but sometime in the near future (2mrw?).
i’m so happy you unleashed that bit of knowledge on me. thank you oh kind newb. Clearly if i play MSP then i i know the power of that. its one of the first things you learn. that clearly is not getting the job done. he just blocks low and blocks Psy. but i guess i just can’t comprehend that power. maybe i’ll meditate on it for a while. If you have rocks, Cable’s bullets, cables feet!!!, and BH’s tail coming down on you at all times then how are you gonna get the crouching short short Psy in. you’re playing an opponent that refuses to stay grounded. when you go for resets they hold back and up so that they can jump away. but thx… i’ll just unleash the power of crouching short short on them… right
and about the randomness. i see what you mean. Psy shouldn’t be random, but well timed. which is very hard because once she gets hit then she gets ahvb’d or worse. but thx for the tips. Saturday is the next long marvel session so i’ll get to see how this advice holds up. it sounds solid so thx for the help.
Leave Bronson alone. If you ever need Tekken strats, he’s one of our best. Joe plays Tekken too, so don’t burn your bridges behind you just yet! :wgrin:
The fact that Joe has dedicated himself to utterly destroying MSP (especially Psylocke) doesn’t help your cause. He will burn five bars on chip if it will kill her ass.
I don’t think you really need to make a new thread for that. Should be something we discuss in the 101 thread or something, no? Personally, though I think its a thing most people should learn by themselves through trial and error. I’m working on my habits regarding this myself…
Yo gimme some more pointers for my Kunimitsu in TTT dawg
