Worst match-ups

thanks, i’ll keep those options in mind. I also have trouble, and everyone says this, with the wakeup in the match… ugh.

thanks, i’ll keep those options in mind. I also have trouble, and everyone says this, with the wakeup in the match… ugh. Is the stomach blow fast enough to punish target combos or his overhead? What about c.hp?

Whatup, I’m looking for a really good Sagat player. Been having so much trouble with that matchup at tournaments. If anyone can help me my live Gamertag is ManiacMike313. My Cody will be a beast if my matchups won’t keep getting in my way. :frowning:

I’ve been having big problems versus Cammy and Claw of all people. I seem to keep getting put into awkward situations with claw doing his wall shenanigans.

Also, what’s the overall best thing to do on wakeup when you’re getting rushed down? I need to work more on EX Bing Punch wakeup but is there any other options?

Nope. You have to get good at blocking and teching during wakeup situations.

Akuma is impossible, if someone can tell me how to beat akuma i would be amazed. Akuma can just run and shoot fireballs at you. when you get close he just teleports away which i dont think cody can counter. Sim,abel and rose are pretty hard as well. alot of other match ups are hard but these are really hard ones. And i think akuma is impossible to beat.

got my hands on a great ibuki player and have to say: it’s impossible. that match up has to be like 8-2. imo by far his worst matchup.

ditto… You work so hard to close the distance because you can’t win the fire ball war with him. You finally closed it and he teleports away. Then when he decides to vortex you. One knockdown and you’re in a guessing game that really isn’t in your favor.

akuma has to be extremely careful with teleports vs cody. cody can ruffian, ex ruffian, and ultra 2 the teleport in most situations.

as for fb’s, like with most of the cast, you have to be patient. and be ready to read a ground fb and get that ex ruffian in. use a couple of bingos to get through(but be careful).

as for vortex, be ready to dash forward. you have to read the jumpins well, but you can forward dash out of a lot of the setups. it’s not a safe guaranteed strategy, but it will save your ass a lot!

the fight is winnable.

hey sabre I’m sure you’re busy but can I add you on xbox and get some pointers?
Really want to up my game on cody.

sabre, any tips against good rog’s and sim’s?

bingo gives rog a lot of problems. it blows through all his rushes except low rush.so i just tend to turtle it up with rocks/bingo. and some slides if he gets close.

there are times as well where he may ex rush through a rock, if he does, odds are youll be able to hit with an ultra 2(rocks recover fast0

as for sim/ you have to rushdown. sim has no answer to cody rushdown. you get inside, the round is over. problem is, is getting in. ex ruffian destroys his fireball game since its slow on recovery. ultra 2 is pretty much free on his regular fb(dont try it on ex fb. c.strong, slide, f+strong, c.rh, c.fierce, and bingo can stuff random limbs. a well placed c.fierce buffered into low ruffian at midscreen can net you big damage and a knockdown if you hit a limb. crack kick(f+rh) can go over some limbs(his fierces). and use focus dash throught the limbs at times to alsoget a little closer.

its not easy. it never is easy for most characters to get to sim. but once you do, the match is damn near 100% in your favor. just be patient. you’ll take a lot of hits getting inside, just remember that once you are in, you basically win.

good luck adding me on live. everytime i make space on my friend list, it immediately fills up. you can always try tho =0

Right now i play cody very strange, i always charge bingo. It doesnt always work out but i wanna make it a habbit.

Well vs akuma i figured at very long range cody could arc some rocks in and hit akuma comming down from air fireball. But its getting me hurt and only works afew times a match.

EDIT- just tested in practice mode, ex ruffian easily counters teleport  I think in the midst of a match it just seemed alot faster cause i wouldnt expect it.

vortex- ill try that out. I saw some poeple use standing light punch but thats too risky for my taste.

BTW sabre much respect nice work at evo, what characters and players did you lose to. They only played one of your match’s on stream.

Ok actully i saw your post on another thread, btw i think cody is good vs ibuki.

At first i had rog problems but not anymore. You can also focus attack alot of rogs rush punches, even some of the EX ones.

I still have some sim problems but i think alot of it is online. The good thing about sim vs cody is every sim player will try to teleport on the get and its pretty easy to punish.

Really been having some trouble against Honda and his butt slam as of recently. The guy I play is no pushover by any means, either (not sure if you’ve heard of him, but his name is, “Jewelman”). I’ve been doing well zoning him and whatnot, but every now and then, he’ll get close enough and knock me down, then use the butt slam on wake up.

I’m never sure what to do. I’ve tried waking up with EX Zonk, but that sometimes puts me underneath him, making him now appear behind me, able to punish my whiff. I’ve tried just guarding, but the pressure is just too much and I can never find a way out of it.

I’ve also tried getting up with a focus, then backdash, but that also hasn’t worked for me. I’m just a little sick of losing like this since I play fine until he closes the gap, then starts that butt slam nonsense, lol. Any help with this would be much appreciated. I’ve run out of ideas.

Lol you weren’t joking tried to add you, but it said you were full on your friends list.

VS gief…jumping jab wreks gief. it stuffs his lariat except for perfect timed ones,(just put his fist near his head) and stuffs alot of his jump ins. its fun to beat that big galoot with nothing but jabs

focus works, but it depends on where he is. if you block it, make sure you block high. blocking high will cause you to block the move sooner, therefore recovering faster and make it easier to get away

t.hawk? that match is considred 7-3 for cody in some tier list. i also think that it is in codys favor.
you can punish thawks dive with lk / ex ruffian aswell as ultra 2 with ease. you can beat it with hk ruffian in the first place, tho.
you can space him with rocks enough due to his floaty jump. his spire is imo the only real danger. his srk move is not really good and can be baited and punished sicne he cant FADC. only thing where you have to be carefull is that you can’t “block” string him or you’ll eat a blockstring SPD. other than that you can force your pace on him.
where are your problems in particular? maybe we find a solution.

Jewelman is easy mode. I beat him at a tournament that I held back in May. He ALWAYS does wakeup EX headbutt/Buttstomp so you always have to bait him to waste his EX bar. Stay on the ground as much as possible cuz he’ll n.jump FP you all day. If he knocks you down, he’ll try to do that footstomp fakeout into command grab.

The thing with Honda is that 80% of the time, they want you to chase them. When you realize that, try to play their game. They would eventually lose patience.
