Worst KOF ever?

MI gets hate because it’s different. Simple as that. It’s 3D so to a good amount of of “KOF” players they think that’s wrong because KOF should only be 2D and can’t be done in 3D. When MI1 came out it was horrible(so was KOF 94 being the piece of shit that it was but w/e). So in turn those that shunned MI before it came out thought they were right when MI finally was released. Then MI2 came out which was a massive improvement but had a stupid OTG system. Still filled with hate for MI1 people automatically hated MI2. Even when MIRA came out they still hated because it was 3D and the first two MI’s weren’t that good. MI1 and MI2 left a sour taste in their mouth so to speak.

It’s quite obvious a good chunk of KOF players hate change in KOF. Case in point Malfreds up there. He listed KOF XI as one of the worse KOF’s. That’s hilarious since that’s just wrong. You know why Malfreds thinks KOF XI is horrible? Change aka Tagging. He even went as far to say that if you like any of the new KOF games, you’re not a REAL KOF player. Wonderful elitist mentality at it’s finest.

I remember he spouted some bullshit about how SNK “betrayed” him with KOF 03 and XI. KOF XI is one of the best KOFs hands down. But how can it be supported when a good amount of the player base shit on change? XI was a huge step up from 03. It plays like a KOF game. You literally use the same tactics in XI that you do in any other KOF. All because of tagging people are crying about it being a bad game and saying SNK is copying Capcom’s MVC2. They probably think Oswald is copying Gambit too.

If people grew up with MIRA it would be one of their favorite KOFs. Period. All these people are just cock riding on nostalgia. When something shows up that’s different from that feeling they hate it. All these people who hate MIRA and XI don’t really have nothing to say but some empty weak argument.

A good amount of players resist change but not all…even in the same city as Malfreds is the one of the best KOFXI players in Mexico,

Taekua from Monterrey, Mexico…so they don’t all think that way…but yes you do make sense.

But if you think this is something its really not…this is just the tip fo the iceberg what you speak…

The INTERNATIONAL battle at times rages on between using console characters (even midbosses) or not…and believe me it is an international affair.

I thought the MI series was a great addition because it was a good alternative to the main series (kinda like SF:EX except better) not mention it brought a lot of new shit to the table (just like every other KOF game), even if you didn’t play it competitively it still had a boat load of extra junk for you to do to keep you from being bored, I mean seriously as a fighting game it still needed work but as a product itself it had it all (minigames, a lot of costumes, story profiles written out for every character, english and japanese voice acting, dream match characters, a big roster, etc), honestly how games like SF:EX and Guilty Gear 2: Overture get more love and respect than MI is beyond fucking me , I’m not even gonna comment on the morons that hate XI good god…

The reason nobody cares about XI is not that we are all hard headed OGs that refuse to change, the game is just mediocre with a gimped tag system that takes away more than it adds, there’s little strategic variety, among other things.

Compared to 2k2 (which I personally don’t like that much, but is a good game) or '98, the game just feels pretty bland and limited despite the extra subsystems. Just looking at the top tier of each game you realize this. That said, XI definitely doesn’t belong in this thread.

Also it’s fun how Hatred Edge bashes Malfreds because of his (I agree) empty arguments yet says the rest of the world likes 2k2/98 only due to nostalgia. Good shit.

I didn’t say the rest of the world only likes 98/2k2 due to nostalgia did I? I said that (SOME)people grew up with the older, less refined KOFs and that’s why they like it so damn much. Krazykone likes 99 because that’s the game that got him into KOF. You know people latch unto whatever made them happy first. Masteroth thinks 97 is better than 98. Why? His first KOF was 97. XI was the first KOF I took serious and that’s why it ended up being one of my favorites. My point is how can anyone say XI is one of the worse yet when there are much worse games? Like 94. To me 94 is crap. People give credit to 94 because it was the first KOF and/or it was what they grew up with. It’s still a pretty bad game compared to the later installments. It lacks a lot. I kinda agree on XI’s subsystem. It really didn’t add much.

I believe people like 98/2k2 because they believe they’re are good, solid games. And you know there’s people who wanted KOF XII to be a copy and paste of 98 with better graphics. Also with some games people get a closed mind mentality about it. They want other games to be just like [insert game] and bitch when it isn’t.

As for the top tier argument in XI, that’s what happens when the player base isn’t as large like 98 and 2002. It’s the same thing in KOF 2000. You see pretty much the same group of characters. Like when the AI players were uploaded their KOF XII matches. Someone was bitching about not seeing more characters when it’s just a handful of those guys playing.

MI gets my hate because was a game developed for consoles, this sometimes mean they don’t care for the balance or anything, the game somethings is really broken and feels a bit strange to play

Y played MI2 in the house of a friend and we get tons of fun, the second time that I visited him, I get less fun. At the third, I was sick of the game

That said, I have heard that MIA is a pretty good game (and developed for arcades), that fix all the errors. I have never played it, but one day I should try to go the the arcade who has it (We’ll, I don’t know if still is there)

Besides that, I don’t hate any kof, but the ones that are a bit meh to me are:

97: Besides the story mode, why I should play this is 98 is the exact game but upgraded like x10000 times? More Balanced, more characters (and the same from 97) and now every character has music (but to be honest, I loved the ambiental music from 97, and that feeling of watching a tournament from TV)

99: A bland kof, the strikers aren’t very useful, and I don’t get the AB system that they implanted that year (If was like the combined the dodge and the roll) anyway, this kof has the graphics of the series in the neo geo. And the fight with kyo rulz

2001: Now this is a mugen game, also, I hate the portraits, goro looks weird

2003: Meh, this game is just Meh, I don’t want to write anything because the game is the true definition of regular. Still I loved the first time that i played it

94 and 95 are good games, the only problem with them is that are really broken, and the fact that you can win matches with 2 combos, or even one, At least in 95, 94 has better damage scale but tons of stupid bugs.

2000 could be the best kof ever if weren’t for the cheapness of the strikers

XI is a funny, and neowave is really good, with the 3 systems, (but the just defense doesn’t work really well)

MIRA is not that bad. I just played it twice in an arcade in HK last december but i did enjoy it (only against the cpu, nobody played that game xD).
I can’t wait to get my copy from play-asia so i can play it more than twice

MI1 and MI2 were awful though

???
Man such an old discussion. Never thought you still remember that shit.

???
You are confused :bgrin:

Just defense works very well in NeoWave IMHO, esp with grapplers, if you master JD in NeoWave, grapplers become destructive. At very high level NW play you will find people using GB Mode, I even use it more than SC or MAX2 now myself. The replay value of the game lies in GB Mode.

It was too funny to forget. I’m not a TRUE KOFer because I like the new games. Too good.

Limited? XI has the some of the most interesting versions of characters in the whole series. Quickshift and Saving Shift open up entirely new possibilities for gameplay. The action is non-stop, no more waiting 10-15 seconds between rounds.
Plus you have a ton of new characters who are completely unique: the bosses, Duck King, Oswald, etc.

Complaining about top tier?
Please. OG 98 is way past boring with all rushdown or poke-all-day. 90% of the top players use teams from the same fucking pool of: Daimon, Iori, Kyo, O. Yash, Chris OVER AND OVER.
2002 isn’t much better in that regard, either.

Please. kofxi is way past boring with all rushdown-all-day. 90% of the top players use teams from the same fucking pool of: Gato, Kula, Oswald, Kyo, Eiji OVER AND OVER.

Pretty Interesting, the truth is that I don’t watch too much competitive matches of neowave, and I only based in my own experience (merely because I found much better the JD in garou)

BTW, neowave deserves more love, at least this game is balanced IMO, what is the general opinion?

I would pick up Neowave since for some reason I do like it but there’s no point. Like KOF XI, 98UM, MIA, 2002UM there’s no one for me to play in that.

The JD in Garou MOTW is superior by far and away, but it warrants enough in NeoWave that if it was played to its maximum potential the matches would be incredible…because the true 2002 players would know what to JD and what not to in the game.

Matter of fact the tradeoff between SC and GB is like this:

SC:
-You gain Super Cancels, instant BC Custom comboes per bar
-You start with 3 bars of meter

GB:
-You start with 2 bars of meter, but have JD
-Can use Universal GuardBreak
-Can’t JD in the air
-JD doesnt give you health back
-JD does fill super meter though

So The tradeoff I feel for JD in GB mode depends on what characters you are using.

IN regards to the balance, last I checked this was the US Tier List for NeoWave:

-Choi, Young Geese, Saisyu, Angel, Kim, May Lee,

Billy, Yuri, Athena fall into S-.

It’s better balanced than people think at high levels, as balanced as KOFXI is at high levels, which is better balanced than most people think. I agree NeoWave deserves more love, but the problem is that 2002 UM is a superior game overall, better balanced, however NeoWave with its subsystems has replay value in that regard (GB mainly).

The bottom line with this whole thread overall is it’s about personal preference.

2003, without doubt the worst kof, full of shit feels terrible

Yeah and fuck og 98 to, boring as fuck unless you’re playing random

Updated and Fixed. :wonder:

I remember nobody liked 96 when it came out

I remember the exact opposite, i suppose it’s different in different countrys but i remember 96 being pretty big back in the uk

i was really impressed with the whole presentation it was captivating 96 will always hold a special place in my heart i failed my college course because of it.

I cant speak for the whole of the uk but from what i remember the kof everybody hated was 99, again for my own reasons i liked that one

95 is pretty fucking stupid also

2003, XII, and, MI 1.

All other KOF games have something I liked about them.
