I don’t know much about KOF gameplay tourney wise because I was a fan of it years before knowing about competitive play so any issues with balance, infinites and the like, I will not comment on.
I will say that I just did not like 2001 at all. The look of it and how it felt just turned me off so quick. I also thought Igniz was perhaps the easiest KOF boss (for me. I know for many others, he was hell) so meh.
After that I’d probably say 96, Goenitz sucks. 94 and 95 weren’t all that fun either (Was it just me or did Iori seem too strong in 95?)
97 is my favorite. Didn’t like the no music playing bit though.
Aside from Goenitz sucking, Saisyu/Omega Rugal was not a fun end boss.
You’ve obviously never played 98 then. You can win with mid tiers, I’ve seen vids, and not just the token Kuroda Q vid. People use a variety of chars in that.

i hated dream cancels , no need to get butthurt , i still play the game from time to time but i really disliked a lot of stuff in it , especially dream cancels (King’s and Momoko’s to be specific , those pissed me off ) and OZ
After playing it on the Demul emulator, I have to say that Neowave is the worst. Bland and uninspired music. Bland and static backgrounds. The most ugly looking health and special bars I’ve ever seen. No real changes with the characters, it’s largely a copy and paste job. Only good thing about it is Young Geese. MUGEN projects have done better than Neowave.
XII… yes XII… screw no more 1 frame grabs for clark… personally i can’t usually get myself to hate any kof just cause it’s kof… unless it’s maximum impact cause that’s like an abomination… but if i had to choose then my favorites r 97 & xi… besides that i like 96, 98, 99, 01… the others i’m not really that big on…
It does by far have the ugliest HUD and blandest art and BGs outside of 01, but I’m probably the only one who loves the hell out of the Neowave soundtrack–because it’s so strange I guess.
It doesn’t really fit KOF, but I enjoy it.
Hey man. You shouldn’t post here. A bunch of us didn’t grow up playing KOF 94 and like XI. According to you that means we’re not real “KOF” players right? Because if you were a real KOFer, as you like to call it, you wouldn’t like anything but those old KOFs.:rolleyes:
