I really don’t see what all the hate from KOF99 is from. They have a really good soundtrack, one of the best bosses of the whole series. It def has some bad sides but after playing the DC ver and listening to the Arranged Soundtrack. I can’t see how 99 can be considered worst than 2k1 or 2k3
94, 95 and 01.
I’d would play 01 before I played 94/95.
For the record 98 (DM 1999) was my first KOF.
'94 the start of it all…and it kinda sucked.
'95 '94 with the bugs worked out.
'96 The first “Real” KoF
’97 would be the classic game had there been no 98
’98 is the hallmark of KOF, a classic, 97 with the bugs worked out <3 DM 1999 fo lyfe y0
’99 was cool…if it was on the Dreamcast - any other version of 99 sucked.
'00 I loved it!
'01 was like a step back in some ways…I didn’t know how much it really sucked till '02 came out
’02 “Neo Classic”, the 2nd hallmark in the series
’03 was a good game in my eyes.
XI Outside of the combo fest it was a solid game, just not wide released.
XII It wanted to go back to the days of 95/96…too bad the Netcaode was Fail and the Gameplay felt really, really rushed - but it was pretty as all hell
not really, everyone knows that the art and music is ass…people play it because theres nothing else, sadly
im going to say 2k3, followed by 2k1, those are mugen games in a SNK cartridge
and the one who sayed 97 was the most casually played KOF is right, everyone played 97, it pretty easy, pick orochi: iori, leona and yashiro and youre done :bluu:
It’s a toss-up between 2001 and 2003, they both felt like ass, but 2001 had Foxy, Angel and Maylee…
look man i didnt know you was jacking off to the beauty of the game. if were talking gameplay the 3 i mentioned are by far the worst kofs around. 96 and 95 have the best bgm’s, and 96 along with 95 and 99 have some of the best bg’s in the series. that doesnt change 96 and 99 from still being 2 of the 3 worst neo geo kofs ever.
people new to the series(those who started with 98 and above)will never understand games like 95,97 for very obvious reasons
but for people like me who played 'em back in the day it was very different
94,95 were the bomb, I never thought I would love a game more than sf but that was kof, the sf killer for me.
kof rules
gameplay wise theres no way the scrubby infinites and wack strikers in 2000 makes it a better game than 2001.
The closest you could get to an abuseable striker in 2001 is with Mai and Lin as striker. It way better for tournaments, the only bad thing is May Lee, she was a 2k2 Angel equivolent at high level, maybe even better. But i’d take that over getting lifted off the floor by Joe and Grabbed by clark infinite in 2000
I’d like to say '99 but 2003 is worse, I hated the single player being the same every time for every team and having to defeat Kusanagi or lose the ending with an LDM together made a very annoying arcade mode.
1998 is probably the best. ive been playing since 96 and 5 years on up while living in japan. 99 is another classic. 2000 was fun.
2001 is garbage, still played it becuz all the japanese were on it and i wanted competition, of course it was a matter of time before all of them went back to 98 and 99 when that was out. more fun.
We’re in a “Worst KOF” thread here, so by calling 2k2OG “worst” just for graphics and bgm is pretty weak. Gameplay is where its at and that’s why it’s one of the most played KOFs to date. If I played fighters for those reasons I wouldn’t be playing KOF in the first place.
RK and Mycah: Thanks for straightening out things.
least favorites are the ones that had the striker system in there. It just didn’t fell right.
I didn’t like any of the games that came before 98. 94 and 95 had really stiff controls, on top of that the sprite work has not aged well at all. Both 96 and 97 seemed ‘incomplete’ to me, they had one or two things that I liked, but overall 98 was better in every possible way.
I played a bit of 99 through 2001 and I really couldn’t get into the Striker system. I find it to be a system that’s just begging to be abused in the worst way, and I’m right as far as the amount of infinites available on those games.
2K2 is kick ass, so moving on. 03 I thought was pretty good. It’s broken as hell, but it can be fun. Never played XI.
KOF 99 definitly the worst.
2nd- kof 2003. i just plaed it a couple of times and didnt enjoyed it
3rd - kof 2k (that game is for posers and guilty gear combos like makers)
4th - kof 2k2 i hate the graphics, and that bad music just makes me sick, so yeah worst ost ever.
2001 is the worst by far IMO. I mean, just look at Bao’s infinite.
2000 and '95 are pretty broken / stupid in many ways but they are still good fun games though.
I would have to say '98 because of the grapple characters I know they are bad in every KoF but I feel that in '98 they are really cheap and let’s not forget the Goro roll glitch and unblockable fireballs second would have to go to 2k1 because of the crappy soundtrack.
So… if it’s an improvement of a previous game, and it is, how is it the worst kof ever? “The worst/best ever” indicates one thing of many, by the way.
Hush Mr. I will rape you in '98 with EX Terry.
I was just tossing out opinions on what I thought was bad.
Huh…never thought '98 would get a mention…
Saying KOF 94 is a bad KOF is like saying WW is a bad Street Fighter. Sure, it lacked the polish and pizazz of later games, and the new systems were shaky at best, but it was trying something new.
I’m NOT a high level KoF player at all, so a lot of my preference in KoF comes from the presentation. As such, 2001 is the clear loser for me, no contest. The backgrounds were bland, the art was sub-par and the music was HORRIBLE. Sure, 2K2 wasn’t much better in this department, but at least the gameplay was really good. By the same token, 99 and 2K had broken gameplay, but the presentation was top notch for both, especially in terms of soundtracks (two of my personal favorites in the series). 2K1 shares the weaknesses of both with the strengths of neither.
It has to be KOF 2003. Even though its playmores first presentable KOF (2001 and 2002 are pure pixel barf) the gameplay is just complete ass. I didn’t like what they did to the game engine, and the new characters were all pretty crap in design.
