street fighter 4 has no spectator mode, sure they plan to add a tourny mode patch later on for sf4 but one thing HDRemix well always have over sf4 is a spectator/lobby mode.
hd remix has tourny mode and spectator modes. Sf4 has tourny mode and 1v1 thats it. imo im gonna get bored really quick with just those options for sf4.
So i been playing SFIV for 3 days now, so far its not that fun for me…I dont like how there is no quarters room…I also dont like how they can see which character you’re choosing…It takes about 2to4 minutes too just play match, which is frustrating for me…
I don’t think i’ll ever let go of Streetfighter HDR. Probably because I have SF IV in my car right now and not sure if I should open it and play it. I was actually thinking about renting SF IV and if I didn’t like it I would take my copy back (the one that I’ve purchased) and get my money back. I’ve played it for 30 mins at Gamestop and was somewhat skeptical (c’mon now, I have to press two buttons to throw someone?). But I’ll see after this weekend though.
I’ve had SF4 for a few days now (launch), and to me it’s just a DIFFERENT game than HDR. I’ve been hopping back and forth between the two pretty evenly and I’m still loving both.
HDR you have to work a lot harder for the combos, the overall speed is just a tad faster (at the default 3 setting), and the play is just ever so slightly tighter (the throw timing/spacing in SF4 is pissing me off somethin’ fierce).
SF4 is obviously prettier, sleeker, flashier, better presentation, etc. Many more move and combo possibilities, easier to actually DO some of the combos, yet plenty of underlying complexities to keep even the most hardcore competitors intrigued for years to come.
I honestly don’t see SF4 cannibalizing very much of HDR’s player base. But maybe I’m in the minority…
SFIV suffers from a bad case of identity crisis. It’s as if there was a SFIV suggestion box at Capcom filled with ideas and someone decided, let’s have them all!
Let me tell you, it takes much longer for me to find a match in SF4 (either ranked or friendly) then it does in HDR. With HDR I can start playing almost immediately, while with SF4 it’s a pretty frustrating experience.
SF4 may in fact be the deeper game (I agree the match-ups are closer, and Gief actually does well against Honda!), but as far as online features, I think HDR has it beat pretty easily. Double blind selection, multiple players in a lobby, spectator mode, even netcode I would give to HDR.
The fighting engines of both games are different, and so I believe it’s really just a matter of preference for what that particular player is feeling at the time. HDR allows instant OG fun, and SF IV is the newest, fresh fighting game experience. If anything, any massive fluctuation between the two player bases for both games will even out given some time. I’m sure any of the veteran players wouldn’t mind switching between both games.
I’m in love with HDR, and based on that love I picked up the SF4 (w/o ever seeing or playing it in the arcades, just anxious waiting for release). I’ve been playing it for almost a week now and so far, see myself playing it casually but going back to HDR more often than not. I don’t know if it’s a familiarity thing, or just b/c I like HDR that much more still :blah:
I have to say, I want to shoot whoever figured out what distance crossups were going to work from in SF4. I had all my distances perfected in HDR and now it seems like everything’s FUBAR. I miss that.
sf4 made me renew my faith in st and 3s. i’ll go ahead and nail myself to the cross here and say that sf4 is balls. textures are ass, physics are all sorts of fucked up, characters feel like they’re made of play-dough, and mechanics rely wayyyy too much on 1-frame links. i tried to like it, i really did. at first i was super hyped on learning the mechanics, but the more i actually learned, the more i was turned off. let’s hope for a sf4 dash soon. actually fuck that, the fail of sf4 actually has me hyped up for kof12. now THAT’S the way sf4 should have been.
anyway, whoever was saying that sf4 will take away the scrubs on hdr is correct. good fucking riddance. the quality of my matches has shot through the roof since sf4 came out.
I picked up SF4 and played it online and geez…no spec mode. No quarter match rooms. Took too long to find quality matches.
The overall online experience was garbage compared to HD Remix.
I sincerely hope that the next patch for HD remix will fix the problems it’s been having…I have a feeling that HDRemix is going to be the definitive online SF experience besides GGPO.
As for SF4…I tried for 6 days straight to grasp the game and the biggest thing that bothered me was the Revenge Guage/Ultra Combo. I now call them stimulus bailout combos/welfare combos. Why? Because they reward failure and give you something totally for free without working for it. Flame me if ya want, but that’s how I feel.
Yeah, I miss quarters mode in SF4. The community sucks too… It’s not really the core community’s fault though, it’s flooded with Ken “SHORYUKEN SHORYUKEN SHORYUKEN” scrubs. Problem is it’s hard to get better because it’s hard to find someone who really challenges you online.
Compare that to HDR, where walking into any room will present you with at least one five-year SF veteran…
Also crossup distances are all fucked up in SF4 and it makes me mad.
