Working Overtime: The C.Viper Technical Thread

I’m on PSN, maybe we could play

I’d wait till Ultimate. I’ve got some plans for revamping the combo thread. Given that the games gonna change in a few months, I’d just wait and clean house then.

Thank you for this thread, played Viper when the game first came out but stopped playing MvC3 down the line. Tried to re-learn Seismo chain cancels but could not do it beyond 2~3 reps as knuckle would come out, took your advice in that I may not be pressing forward and I can somewhat do it again. Just need to refine the technique. Thanks man.

Yessir. Thats what its here for! glad it helped. We need this thread stickied.

Hey I hope this isnt too much to ask but can someone do a writeup on seismo fadcs. I saw the tutorial video and stuff but I am still having trouble with it and I think it would be helpful to people who are new to Viper and me(people who cant do it) to get a better understanding of how this works

Been thinking about doing one destroyer. I might see if i can get it done this weekend. what are your questions anyways?

Just the genera execution. I understand what is happening but Im not sure how you do it so fast in the videos. Is it after the seismo you jump cancel it or sjc the seismo. And then dash forward. Also how fast do you have to press the focus attack button cause sometimes I just get a superjump

It’s seismo, input SJ immediately, press A+S at exact same time as seismo collumn comes out, dash.

It’s a plinking motion. 623A, 8C+S~A+B. You can also buffer up the dash with 66, so, 623A, 8C+S~66. The 66 method is slower, but only by a smidge.

Don’t rock the plinking motion. Personally it brings out the craptastic x-factor way too much. You’ll find a sweet spot if you actually do the 28 “Flicker” as I do after your seismo. There is some time before the seismo hits that you can do 28 or 8+A+S and then press your B+C or whatever way is most comfortable for you and it will still come out as fast as it possible can. My inputs sometimes show 28 A+S B+C instead of 28+A+S B+C And sometimes it shows 28 A+S 6+B+C showing im already going into the next seismo already. Before you try and do the full motion try just getting use to doing seismo FADC and then pressing and holding 6. This way you get use to getting to reset your motion into the forward motion from 8. Once you get use to that start adding your quick SRK motion and you should see improvement. Gotta focus on those two elements real close.

  • There is actually a time where you can hold 8 between your FADC that you see you will still be grounded before the jump. IT doesn’t happen immediately. So try and find those subtleties so you understand why you are doing these things you’re not trying to do. Its rough at first but once you get use to it… it still amazes me I can do all these button presses and motions in about half a second per seismo FADC and continue the consistency.

Thats the way Ive been doing it but I cant press the next attack button quick enough.

a technique I’ve noticed many doing is canceling the focus atk with ex seismo, and even normal seismos. I’ve randomly done it in training mode, but i can’t consistently do it? Is there a specific window to doing so that I’m just horribly missing?

There’s no timing at all with Focus>EX Seismo.

Press focus (A+S) then release the S button. Then while still holding the other button input 623S and the focus will be canceled with EX Seismo. You can cancel the Focus into other moves as well using the same technique.

Does anyone have any additional tips for the viper ball. I have a lot of troubles hitting the 4 to 9 motion to get the forward super jump. I would like to implement this into my game as fast as possible because this trick has even greater potential than most people realize.

Have we had any confirmation that this still works in Ultimate?

Just takes practice is all. It would be very situational if you ever implement it into your game use it off of block stun. Which means your only setups for it are jump ins and off of a seismo. Anything out of close/mid range that doesn’t involve block stun is generally seen for the opponent a place to attack and if they don’t they are usually jumping. But I’ve tested it out in games and you have to realize that when you are doing the viper ball you are pushing viper forward with a decent amount of momentum and she is very vulnerable. Feints do have recovery. On top of that if you add an attack you’re looking at waiting for your feint to end and then placing it out there when the opponent could have already attacked. I would say Viper ball had more potential if Vipers normals were better. But they aren’t. Don’t stop from testing it out though. You might find something interesting that we haven’t thought of. This is just what I’ve figured out with trying to use it.

In the many games I have used it I have only ever once or twice done something successful with it. And I placed a lot of time into it.

I wouldn’t see why it doesn’t work unless they made they made a height level that she has to reach to be able to do a feint. It doesn’t exist right now.

Oh that’s very sad that you worked so hard on it only to come up with miniscule(bad spelling) results. I will work on it in ultimate I seem to be a creative streak right now with viper I am finding great tech with spencer’s slant shot assist (its also suprisinly good in combos).
My current thoughts are the viper ball could be applied as a mix up with doom missiles but time and experimentation will tell.
Did not know about the recovery on feint, thank you for the information!

Nice. No mention of the otg Seismo JC BK relaunch or other funky things (basically technicalish series) yet or just not gonna bother with that?
Great stuff!
