"Work on your movements, Chap! Dudley Critique Thread

I don’t have any videos (as my recording process takes forever to record/put on youtube, but if someone wants to spar with me on PSN, then I’d be happy to get in a few matches. I’m maining Dudley and I’m trying to find another character to main with him, but I’m working on Dudley mostly, so any feedback is appreciated. My PSN = jordanman13 (no caps). Add me and send a message if you’re interested in playing a match or two (i have a mic, so critiquing my gameplay will be easy if you have one too)

OK, so one of the people on the forum I’m on uploaded a match of him playing endless mode with a couple of us. Here’s a good show of how i play my Dudley (This is how i normally play, but keep in mind they are way better than me, as they have played pretty much since release, where as i just restarted about two weeks ago)

Dudley (jordanman13) vs. Gouken (SUNsunMcNASTY):

EDIT: Ignore the ones that ren’t me, we played in a big group in Endless… I only played Dudley, but there was another Dudley in there as well, so watch for the PSN name under the health bar

Ok ive noticed that the first 20 secs of the video you did random MGBs which is not good. The only time when you want to do an MGB like that is when you see your opponent doing random normals or if theyre trying to focus you. Like for example if a viper is doing a random feint you can predict it and do EX MGB. 2nd is work on your execution as in work on your mindgames and work on your combos and the last thing i just have to say is footsies like use your standing fierce more heres a website about footsies. sonic hurricane dot com Street Fighter Footsies Handbook, Chapter 1 Read all the chapters and if you work on all of that you will have a decent dudley.

1 match 58 3 seconds in

1 match 1 hour and 5 minutes in

2 matches 1 hour and 18 minutes in

Critique me gentlemen.

I only watched the first match since it’s 5:30. There was good stuff in there, but I saw 3 things to work on.
First, you are waaay too reckless on wakeup, Dudleys wakeup options are limited so BLOCK more! you ate to many meaties and that CS fadc since you were pressing buttons on pretty much every wakeup.
Second thing was the CC, I love it as well but the sad truth it isn’t that good, doing EX CC after blockstring/blocked MGB is a very bad habit and can easily cost you the round.
Third , there was also a random MGB, if it wasn’t a input error, don’t do that since any half decent player blocks and punishes it badly.

Critique for like, 80% of Dudley players:

Stop doing f.hk, cr.lp, st.hk links. Just practice plinking your st.hk and link straight into it from f.hk. You get more damage, more stun and more range on it. With plinking, it’s a 2 frame link, which is the same as linking f.hk into cr.lp.

In AE this will be even more important as f.hk is getting it’s range increased.

weeeeeell yea, it’s important you can do f.hk to s.hk, but SSF4 net code being the piece of shit it is I feel way more comfortable doing c.lp in between if I know I’m close enough.

I don’t know about the players in USA, but I’m from Finland and there is practically never and Finns playing ranked or at least it’s a utter waste of time to search matches with same region, why the hell can’t I search the scandinavian countries? or even filter the thousand 1 bar American players from the search?

Anyway, this is why I have to pick 4-5 bar games from players from spain/germany/france/italy/etc middle European countries and it’s a total lottery.
Hardly ever can I find a lagless match and usually the lag is at least so bad that punishing lp shoryuken(f------ shotos everywhere) is a nightmare with anything else than c.mp xx mp.MGB
it’s stupid how many shotos just do another lp shoryu after a blocked one and it’s ridiculous how hard especially ken’s is to punish with f.mk or even s.hk if theres even a little lag, can’t wait for AE…

Definitely true. Getting that link down is crucial, and the link is so delayed it is an easy hit confirm without the extra jabs.

Thanks for the input, also the ex cc wasn’t after a blockstring it was to beat the jump in, followed by ultra which I wasn’t able to land. You’re right that I rely on it a bit too much though. I will try to use it less , I guess that’s some habits I’ve gotten from playing gouken.

Any other critiques from whomever on my other matches would be appreciated.

I noticed after each time you focus crumple you always do the c.hk to juggle even when u have spare meter. You need to maximize those opportunities, try doing f+mk, s.hk, ex.mgb or if ur meterless a light uppercut -> l.mgb to push them in the corner. Gotta maximize those free punishes to maximum effect.

I was mainly referring to the EX CC you used after block MGB

and ok ok, I watched the 2 other matches now with a bottle of champagne, I’m just gonna give you some bullet points.

 • too often the opponent jumped over you and you just released the focus and he punished, dash away if the opponen jumps.
 • learn to anti-air U2, many missed opportunities
 • poor punishes(focus -> s.hp xx lp.MGB wtf? use f.mk-> s.hk xx ex.mgb, or even s.hk xx JU/ex.mgb)
 • poor stun punish (TC cancelled to nothing vs cammy, why?)
 • duck on wakeup if he throws a meaty projectile( vs the DJ)
 • ok to use EX CC as anti-air if timed right, but at least once you did random CC vs DJ
 • unconfirmed ex MGB from jump in (reaaaally bad, most can reversal ultra that shit and it HUUUUUURTS)

I think HP.JU is better option if the opponent is a character that it hits.

Thanks for the tips fellas

Stop telling people to do overhead into st.hk directly and tell them they are noobs just because YOU (whoever does this) have godlike execution. Some players can’t plink (and yes, they live with that),other’s just don’t feel confortably with it.Cr.jab followup especially if the overhead is done upclose, is not bad.I guess you could critique a cr.jab over overhead if it was done from max range and it was clear it was going to wiff.
Also, overhead ~ jab ~ st.hk xx EX MGB ~ duck upper does WAAAYYY more damage than overhead ~ nothing or overhead ,blocked hk xx ex mgb, and you get reversaled and lose.

NOT to say it’s bad, though. It is indeed very good for your game, but you cannot seriously critique someone for doing overhead ~ cr.jab ~ st.hk.I agree that 2 jabs after overhead are wothy of critique, but one is not.Players don’t want to risk such a big opportunity considering Dudley feeds on them and can lose if he misses a combo.
I guess Marn sucks for doing overhead ~ cr.jab, right?

lol @ plinkers have no execution whatsoever when it comes to 1 framers. if you plink, you have no execution.

well, c.lp as a confirm isn’t that bad if you know the s.hk will hit(you are close enough), especially online where doing 1f can be a fucking lottery(as stated above). f.hk -> s.hk is optimal, but quit hating if people do c.lp in between, especially online. :frowning:

dam, keep it classy kids, we got marvel around the corner anyways…

I cannot wait! Wesker, Magneto, & Thor madness shall be unleashed! Though, I’m still going contiune trying to improve & working on my Dudley. Poor connection be damned, I’m going to keep at with Dudley & Sagat.

im lookin at okami zero and thor myself, doesnt mean i wont be keeping up with my dudley which is think is still pretty shit tier I need to get better with him too ahahah

I’m still at inconsisent tier with Dudley. I can get blown up by an A ranked Ryu with, and wreck another one legitily.

Ranks, PP, and BP don’t mean anything. All those indicate is that the person plays a lot.
