The article does not paint a complete picture of the situation. It mentions that she is provided mental health counseling but gives no further details.
Given the context of the situation I would be extremely surprised to find out she wasn’t being held in a mental health facility, as she is clearly a threat to others.
We really don’t know what they’re ‘flat out saying’. We really don’t know what constitutes as good behavior. Maybe it’s being a good girl and taking your meds. Maybe it’s going under house arrest. Maybe it’s going to all of her counseling appointments. What does her mental health intervention consist of? What setting will these services be offered? We don’t know.
From the limited information given it sounds like she may have been manic and possibly psychotic. The few clues the article gives to her behavior all seem to indicate this, however it’s obviously impossible to make a true diagnosis.
Was she mentally deranged? Is the judge a sexist asshole who lets women off easy? At this point we don’t know. All the article provides is a portion of the judge’s ruling. But I know what conclusion news sites would probably like you to believe. Because one of them will get a fuckload more hits than the other.
I’ve dealt with enough situations that were similar enough to this to know how the system typically handles it. I’d say the article is meant to sensationalize the story. And Jesus Christ are you guys easy to rile up. Try to look at the story and how it’s presented with just a bit of objective thought. Just because a woman isn’t going to prison for this doesn’t mean it’s sexism.
