Willamette Parkview Mall Help Center: The Frank West Q&A Thread (Ask questions here!)

A few more questions:

  1. Blue Light Special “nullifies” projectiles. Does that include hypers? If so, if you THC with Frank against a beam hyper, but he isn’t hitting your opponent, will he nullify the beam for your whole team?

  2. What is the projectile durability on the Giant Swing attacks? (notably the L version, if they differ)

  3. What are the invincibility frames on Barrel Roll?

  4. Giant Swing L has 28 startup frames, and Frank West’s c.H is 10/12/19, -8 on block. Thus, c.H to Giant Swing L should not be a safe blockstring, but I see it used all the time. What gives?

1 It includes hypers, but for some reason not beams. Taskmaster arrows, hawkeye gimlet, etc it’ll push through.

2 It doesn’t have durability. Zombies are more or less treated as actual characters, so it’ll go through anything once it’s released. Including hypers.

3 Nobody knows for sure since the guide claims it has none, which is false. The estimate is about 15. Usually ends right about when he says “look”

4 The initial swing before he throws it is what makes it safe, that counts as a hit. There is a gap, but if the initial swing hits its a frame trap. If the initial hit doesn’t connect he can be punished. invincible reversals can also go through the frame trap, but lvl 3-5 survival techniques will beat almost everybody’s reversal.

Interesting. Photon Array?

Holy wow that’s awesome. Why don’t people use this more when he’s level 1? All I see is people spamming Knee Drop, which seems like peeing into the wind.

So frames 1-15?

Oh, so the book is only counting the “throw” as the active frames, and not the swing? That’s…silly. Usually they divide it by hits and list the frames. Do we know the frame the swing hits on? I feel like Frank West needs one big post that has all this stuff listed. There are some fantastic threads here about leveling him up though, which is more than what most characters have.

Thanks for all the helpful information. Another question, if you don’t mind: exactly how does the Shopping Cart assist work? I’m going to be trying Frank West/Dormammu/Morrigan, and whether I pick Shopping Cart or his meter assist depends on how good Shopping Cart is as a “get off me” assist. For example, if I start the round with Dormammu or Morrigan, and mash out Shopping Cart to get space at the start, what’s going to beat it? I know his meter assist isn’t good, but it would give Morrigan infinite Astral Vision, and it would be well protected by her.

His frame data is listed here with good explanations.

The Blue Light Special is a projectile (it sets off Dr.Strange’s Seven Rings). I, however, have NO IDEA how durable it is. Once we knew that, we could probably figure out what it beats and what it does not.

BLS does beat ground photon array

Looks like a copypaste from the guide. I have the guide. The stuff I’m interested in isn’t discussed in the guide, though. Thank you, regardless.

hey what are some good ways to open people up with frank west when hes on level 1 ?

j.b xx l.tools, j.b/j.c (land), cr.a, cr.b, cr.c xx l.giant swing etc

you can do the j.b xx l.tools up to three times depending on how high you are in the air. With larger characters like hulk, it will pull them towards you and you can get a cross-up j.c given the right situation, and not everyone is blocking high after the l.tools and try to advance, so the j.b can open them up as well. You can also use the knee-drop if they’re close enough, it’s just more unsafe if it whiff esp @ lvl 1.

Anyone know franks neutral game?? especially on level 1 ?

Some of your best Lv. 1 normals will be his plunger ones (s.M, c.M, j.M), but 88% of the time you’re not going to get much done with Lv. 1 Frank in the first place.

Can someone explain what charge partitioned zombies are and why they’re so good?

Say I have solo lvl1 Frank with level 3 XF available and I land a throw. Is there any way to get to level 4?

You can get up to Lv. 3, I think?

You charge, and while you charge, you stay mobile by dashing or sliding, then canceling into the zombie. Covers movement.

I would assume that this would work:
Throw snapshot (X-factor) sLcLsMcMsHxxsnapshotxxshopping cart S LLMMHS jqcf+H SRK+M snapshot super

Thats 47 hits. Almost level 4. I’ll play with it.

I’ll see what I can find.

I tried this really quick, and so far it works when you’re comboing WAY from the corner, but not sure about comboing into it:

Throw, Snapshot XFC j.LMH xx air Tools of Survival L, j.M xx land, st. LMH xx Snapshot xx Blue Light Special, st.S, sj. HS, land, Snapshot

Gets you to level 4, before the second Snapshot you’ll have done about 847k, the picture takes it up to 853k, Tools of Survival at the end will get you to like 1,150k.

Good find Fizzy. I’ll try to play with it more tomorrow, see what I can find

I was watching a bunch of Apology Man videos the other day on youtube, and I swear I saw him use a combo (just once) that got lvl 1 Frank to lvl 4 without the usual Inferno or Tenerizer and without x-factor/meter. I can’t recall which video it was and I can’t seem to find it now, anyone have any idea? I think he was using j.L, j.L, j.M, j.M, j.H after launches (2 reps) but other than that I can’t recall the specifics.

Hit him up on Twitter, he’ll probably answer you.

Does anyone have a optimized lvl 5 Frank combo that breaks a mill? My most damaging combo does about 993k My assists are jam session and centurion rush.
