Same, saw it last night and didn’t think it was crap at all; typical summer movie for me.
Same here. It was an interesting film. A big risk to take and I enjoyed it more for that.
Movie wasnt that bad, but wasnt great either. 2nd half of the movie got a bit weird for me story-wise.
Seen it not too long ago and I thought it was okay. It had it’s funny moments but there should have been more. Charlize Theron is just too hot.
Hancock
[details=Spoiler]
Thought Will and Charlize’s little clash could have been longer too[/details]
I enjoyed this movie. Kinda gives a different perspective because if one was immortal and couldn’t be hurt, maybe you could really become lazy and not give a fuck, since there wouldn’t be any life threatening consequences. The only thing I felt weird about was a clean shaven Will Smith. Not used to seeing him without his goat.
thought it was a great movie. after seeing the happening, this movie was genius
LOL I told yall this looked stupid but everyone hyped this movie up so much…where are they now?
I agree.
Heh
[details=Spoiler] The movie was funny as hell in the beginning, esp. how Hancock called out the fat dude and the bitch at the train wreck. I forgot the exact quotes for both but they had me and the entire theatre laughing our collective asses off!
The usage of strength and powers were unique and “realistic” in their portrayal. There was no perfect order in how he interacted with the world, if he grabbed the roof of a SUV it ripped off and so on.
I suspected Theron’s role in the beginning, but I never expected her to be stronger, that was insane. I wonder who are these “god creators” and why they were “built?”
But there were plot holes, but unlike regular plot holes which are the effect of bad writing, these felt intentional to fill in for a sequel- which doesn’t surprise me for even an anti-superhero-hero movie. [/details]
better have the stat rape scene they took out the keep the PG-13 as well
So far it seems the general consensus is the movie is average.
This movie isn’t ass
have you even seen it yet?
I thought the movie was good, i enjoyed the first third where you see him being anasshole, it was fun, but felt shallow. The prison bit was better for me, since hancock became a little more 3 dimensional as he began to search his soul. and the twist was good for me too. i was praying that some superbeing wouldn’t come along to fight hancock and thankfully it didn’t, i felt the ending was great. A little confused but definately a thumbs up from me.
Hancock had some funny parts in it but there was just nothing likeable or appealing about the movie. It isn’t something I’d pop in at home when I have company over. Other than Wild Wild West it’s the only Will Smith movie I can say that about. I have a low tolerance for comedies, and can excuse stuff like plot holes (that this movie was full of) or bad editing as long as the laughs keep rolling in… but the movie just stops being funny and entertaining for a very long stretch. I doubt I’ll ever watch this again, in theaters or at home…
Fuck movie critics, seriously.
Yeah, I didn’t know people liked that movie.
I guess I’m not with the masses on this movie. I was actually pleased with the way the story developed and I wasn’t excited about seeing it at all. I didn’t really like the ending, but overall I thought it was still better than them making the typical super hero movie we’ve seen a million times. I was really expecting it to go like - hancock cleans up his act with motivation of a loved one (damsel in distress), villains find hancocks weakness, hancock decides to sacrifice himself for others but still survives and beats villains and everyone is happy in the end. The “alternative” plot was a little flawed but I still liked it, although I’m not really a big fan of action flicks so that might be why.
Saw Hancock tonight.
Call me asshole one more time
Spoiler
I liked it, but I feel that the movie went in an entirely different direction around the time he left prison. The movie that I saw the end of wasn’t the same movie I started watching prior; it’s weird. It starts with this great hobo Superman idea, exploring this character who obviously has a lot of problems, and then… it becomes this timeless love story of angels? Wacky turn. But the storytelling wasn’t bad. It’s just that the movie wasn’t consistent.
Still, though, not a bad use of a Friday night. Good movie. Just… not great.
I am Legend was pretty good… And it’s what the shitty Resident Evil movies should’ve been like. You know… Just a few main characters trying to make it out alive or something.
Even the shittiest RE movie (the third one) was way than I Am Legend.
It’s like they just stopped trying at the end. I also was not impressed with that alternate ending.
It was funny for first hour but otherwise this movie sucked. It wasn’t terrible or unwatchable by any means but just an averagely bad and forgettable summer movie.
BTW while nowhere near as good as it could’ve been or the books IAL was still a pretty solid movie. I think a lot of people hate on it because of the slow pacing but that’s what I liked most about it because that’s how it was supposed to be and it worked but I do agree the ending felt kinda weak.
Yeah this is a good assessment.
Usually I don’t give take any critics of anything with even a grain of salt but rottentomatoes is the only exception because the %'s they dole out usually coincide with what I thought about the movie and the comments actually show why people liked/disliked the movie.
i enjoyed it…but gets a c+ at best.
will smith hype is too strong…im surprised he just hasnt bought july 4th.
Tbh, this movie kinda bombed for me. The second half of it became a bit unbearable, sort of like watching someone sing or do a speech and feel how embarrased they are so you try not to make them more nervous by looking them in the eyes and hopes the audience does the same. I think Will, at some point, felt that this movie wasn’t going to be magic. Hell, everyone involved had to know. The emotional and informative parts tended to be cheesey so I felt like they could’ve at least went ultra cheddar and threw in a super villain. Also, Will wasn’t at his best humor-wise either. He used the “head up ass” joke about 3-4 times and it was only funny in the prison scene. Other times I felt we all just sort of giggled at random stuff because it was Will Smith and he’s SUPPOSED to be funny.
I don’t want to seem like a hater, because I understood the movie and what it tried to accomplish. But it wasn’t the best writing and script, plain and simple. If Charlize wasn’t so fucking hot, and Will wasn’t the poster boy for this movie, it’d be a commercial flop. Shit, it might just end up being that though.
Basically, not a horrible flick but it’s almost like this movie didn’t have to be made. If no one saw the story of Hancock we’d all be fine and Will would be putting out straight action flicks on the 4th like people want him to.
My problems with Rotten Tomatoes is, not every movie critic rates movies in terms of yes/no, like Ebert and Roeper. Critics may have mixed feelings about a movie, and some parts of the movie may be impressive, but they won’t strongly recommend it. But RT still counts it as ‘rotten’. Vice-versa applies too. As a result the scores are padded to look like it fared better or worse than what the critics really thought when you actually read the reviews. Just looking at the RT percentage and quotable doesn’t really tell you anything either way. Especially when some movies I thought were totally mediocre gets a 90+ rating because the reviews said it wasn’t bad enough to not recommend.
There’s also the rare occasion of critics getting bribed by film distributors to say nothing but good things about a total POS.
