I have no complaints, I wasn’t expecting something incredible, I was just expecting to be entertained, and I was very much that.
A solid superhero brawl (which a studio has not done right in decades), a decent plot that had almost NO continuity errors from what I saw, little kids saying “asshole” and Charlize Theron wearing very low cut tops. Come on now. That’s worth my 9 bucks, easily.
Like I said I don’t take reviews of anything with more then a grain of salt but as a man who is very much into movies I think RT more often then not gives the right percentages or somewhat close to what I would rate the movie. That being said you’re absolutely right about everything you posted which is why sometimes or alot of the time actually even RT gives fucked up %'s to movies but then again this is taste we’re talking about which at the end of the day is always subjective.
Keep in mind you’re talking to a guy who rates zoolander as his #1 fav of all time because it has break dance fighting, walkoffs, the most cameos of any movie ever, orangemochafrappchinos, bad and good 80’s music, the gdlke bluesteel, etc.
hmmm…wanted to see this today
but from reading your reviews i might wait for the dvd
or is it possible that with ironman and hulk recently being good superhero movies we are expecting too much from Hancock?
people are expecting too much from will smith thats all.
I dont think it was a bad movie or anything. I had a good time.
First half was great(drunken flying!), second half was made of pure suck.
Seriously, M. Night Slymahajakalan couldn’t have come up with a worse twist.:arazz:
EDIT [SPOILER, kind of] - This vid has the plot twist for Hancock at 1:30: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hlxoyw_8I7I
It’s not exactly a ‘superhero movie’ and I think that’s mainly what’s causing so much dissapointment. I mean it’s not great, but I’d say it’s a decent movie.
1st half was pretty entertaining. 2nd half was a super cheese and corn fest.
Saw the moive last night.
It’s not the greatest movie ever, nor would it win an academy award, but the shit sure was entertaining.
Only draw back to the movie was the ending pretty much. All I can say is that it’s one of those typical “make the audience happy” kinds of endings.
was okay as we all are i’m sure, you can tell what you are getting into when you go watch movies these days.
Hancock was really enjoyable as ws I Am Legend. Not the best movies ever bt the quality of these movies are always worth the try.
Maybe I missed something, but going after a guy you think is bullet proof, and hoping he’s not… I dunno. I kinda zoned out for the second half. Shit was entertaining but I obviously missed something.
Hancock was decent, i liked it. My only gripe was the way that chick revealed her identity. She had no reason whatsoever to do so, and on top of that, totaled her OWN damn house in the process!!!
Then afterwards she threatens him to keep it a secret? Whatever. Moron.
I guess the director got lazy on that one part. Instead of coming up with a creative way to reveal it, he was like, “ehh we need to move the story along, so lets just throw it out there. Who cares if it makes sense”.
I realize i should try and turn my brain off for some parts of a flick like this, but that bullshit scene just defied all known levels of common sense.
I think that more than just that scene was like that. Those dudes go after Hancock with guns? Granted, they luck out and he is vulnerable ATM because of a plot device, but how the Hell did they know that would happen. As far as they knew, he’s completely invulnerable.
Overall, I think that the story was an interesting take on superheroes. I like the look at the consequences of his actions and the collateral damage he causes everywhere he goes. But it felt rushed… Each portion of his transition was sped through pretty quickly, and then the gears shifted rather abruptly.
All around it was fun and interesting, but really could have been better.
If there’s one thing this movie proves, it’s that Will Smith is a ridiculous draw. The movie pulled in 66 million over the weekend and 107 million over the first five days of release. Even if the movie slows down heavily because it wasn’t reviewed well, it’ll more than break even. You’ve got to wonder how poor a film Smith has to be involved in before people refuse to see it.
BTW he just became the first actor to be involved in 8 straight $100 million grossing movies.
I didn’t like it very much. The plot was all over the place. The action wasn’t interesting enough to keep my attention either. :shake:
I liked the first half and really believe that if they stretched out “Hobo Asshole Hancock” for the first half and “Redeeming Hero Hancock” for the second half it would have been a great deconstruction of the superhero genre and generally much better movie.
The shit with Charlize Theron (whose breasts appeared to get larger as the movie progressed) felt rushed and was a horrific mood and plot whiplash. The main baddie using bullets and being confident that they would work even though he had no idea of the M. Night Shamalamadingdong twist was a plot hole you could drive a bus through. The secondary characters were one-dimensional as fuck and I wanted to watch Theron suffer until the shocking TWEEST.
It’s like they were ashamed to be making a simple superhero movie so they started as a deconstruction/subversion and then turned to shit.
In smith’s defense the trailers for the movie were pretty good and funny. With trailers like that, someone else could have been in the role of hancock, and it would still have done well at the box office initially.
It had a fresh concept as far as hero movies go, just not executed quite so well.
i saw the movie last night. and i enjoyed it. its not the greastest movie but i didnt think it was bad. i guess i’ll check out wall-E next.
Big Willie.
It was alright.
The buildup in the first half I think didn’t coincide with the second half. For instance, what is up with all the drawings in the cell of a man and a child? And why draw attention to the eagle numerous times but not reference it later on? >_>
Liked the first “official” fight he has though. Did a good job.
I enjoyed Hancock to the fullest. Good story, good action, good acting. Made you think and opens an individuals curiosity. Made my fiancee cry near the end. It was filled with emotion too. More than I expected but definitly good for a laugh. It was great. Might go watch it again later this week. Going to watch wanted tomorrow.
