Maybe in japan it may not be as big, but in NA that won’t be an issue.
Although I would say it’s success in Japan may rely on how big Vita ends up being there.

Think about it, in a sense it’s also the new Tekken game for this year, which kinda means Tekken players might get in on it. If that’s the case we’re looking at two scenes on one game. or one and a half.
Not to mention new players and the fact that it’s the new Capcom game which means it’ll have a lot of people on it regardless.
Yeah that’s what makes it different from other games to be released. Both sides (SF and Tekken) are major well known fighting game franchises.
I was on the fence about the game though, until I looked at the full mechanics of the game, and really it seems much deeper than the other Capcom games lately, and seems to be a lot of mind games will be involved in high end play, which intrigues me.
Sfxt will reel in a lot of new players even from the Tekken community until Tekken 7 aka Tekken tag tournament 2 lands on consoles.
I think in terms of popularity this will blow over marvel by a bit. some people are still hesitant about the game but most of those players are just holding in negative opinions too close to heart. Like when I talk to some people, they bring up gems and chains. It’s way more than that. Way, way more.
This game will be a hit in my opinion because no comeback factor crap, real honest fighting, colorful cast, a true cross over game. I say true because this is really taking a different franchise and marrying it with street fighter and creating a whole new beast. Marvel doesn’t count since it’s all done in the essence of Capcom fighters.
ten more years of AE2012.
Bring on the new era in the form of sfxt. This is how Sf4 should have been in the first place.

I’m sure most people who say this can’t take over from SFIV said the same thing about Marvel, a year later and UMVC3 gets more entrants, more stream views and is shown last in the Main Event slot @ Majors. SFIV needs international players to even have as much hype as Marvel these days, you can bet Final Round is going to be mostly hype about Marvel, since no Japanese players for SFIV since their national tournament is on the same weekend.
SFIV peaked @ Evo 2010, last year had a couple hundred less entrants even with a much larger foreign contingent.
Man I’m so sick of seeing this shit, do you think SFV won’t blow up in japan than? Because I can tell you right now SFV won’t come out in arcades. You know that Tekken X Street Fighter is also more than likely going straight to console? And this is from Tekken, the franchise that runs shit in arcades all over South East Asia, don’t get it twisted, SFIV was never “that” big in the arcades. Price being one of the reasons why, remember all those TRF fortnightly ranbats that would get uploaded during vanilla? They never got AE because it wasn’t worth upgrading for them.
People act like GodsGarden Online events never happened during Super which was console only, people act like NSB didn’t have a console tournament for Super, or that events like GodsGarden couldn’t do SFxTK. You know I actually wish that the final version of this with the 12 additional characters is released in arcades, because people are sheep and if they see Tokido, Daigo and Mago playing this in arcades instead of 5 years old SFIV they’ll follow them like the ballhuggers they are.
Why wouldn’t SFV come out in arcades…?
Agreed with most of that. And yeah, Tekken is so far off that I think most of the players will end up here unless they are lucky enough to have an arcade close with TTT2.
I think this will be more popular than both SF4 and Marvel, simply because the majority of SF fans are likely already interested, and many Tekken players on top of that.
By the opinions of the pro players, and obvious popularity of both SF and Tekken, we can pretty much guarantee SFxT will be one of the “big fish in the pond” (at least for awhile). The real question is how it will compete with on the tournament scene. WNF was already mentioning they don’t know how they are going to balance all 3 games…
Will the majority of AE players move over since it’s fairly similar (but seemingly more complex) fighting mechanics? Or will they stick with AE and have SFxT as an off-game? Or will they do 1v1 on AE and team games on SFxT only? (I would hope they would have both if it’s a good game but who knows?)
Marvel seems overall less popular with the players (popularity seems drastically different depending on scene) but if you look at the schedule for majors it still is holding it’s own with AE, and seems more entertaining/watchable to viewers in exchange for less players… but even with the viewer popularity will the tournament player base decline at the majors?
Or will all 3 keep continuing on with strong scenes? Seems like the weekly tournaments such as WNF may have to split in to separate days if this happens… Which honestly I would not mind since it sucks to have to wait more than a week to see each game.
Regardless of which games stay strong, let’s hope it grows the scene!
Because it will more than likely be next gen, which is PS4/Xbox720/Wii U
Think of the state of arcades now (yes even in Japan), fast forward 3 years.
If a lot of arcades in japan couldn’t afford SFIV than what makes you think they can afford a more than likely more expensive SFV in 3 years time.
The international audience for SF is far bigger than Japan, SFIV in Japan did something like 200k combined, worldwide it did 3.1 million…2.9 mil > 0.2 mil.
So don’t be surprised if Capcom go straight to console for all those reasons and likely more. Not that it matters, we’ll ignore SFV because Japan won’t be playing it since it won’t have an arcade release.
LOL
But 3s players are liking it as well!
I don’t think you understand what old really means in the fighting game community. If the gems became big, Capcom might see them as the reason why the game took off as opposed to myriad of other things involved with the game. If they take to liking the gems then we are boned for a lot of whacky reasons.
If it DOES then

I surely hope it does. It’s a new-age Capcom game without a bullshit comeback mechanic, it looks absurdly fun and the cast is pretty damn good aside from a few hiccups - Karin :(.
Doesn’t mean people should stop playing AE, though. Sure, I won’t ever look back but it’s not like there’s only room for a single game.
SF4 may or may not have passed it’s peak. But people are assured this is the final version. So maybe we’ll have more people hitting up the game or playing as diligent as ever. After all, there’s still so many wild card characters and setups. I still think SF4 will stick with us in the long haul since it’s still different from SFxT.
SFxT has generated nothing but positive opinions the past week off Cross Assault. The show served it’s purpose in marketing it. Whether or not you guys think the players were paid off to make it sound good, you can see the game playing out for itself. You can’t fake that.
IMO, it is just too early to tell how good and competitive the game will be. It certainly looks fun but overall it is just too early to tell whether or not it will surpass sf4. If someone finds a super cheap tactic in the game like DHC glich or a character that is just too overpowered or something like that than perhaps the public won’t like it as much. But now these glitches can always be patched out or characters can get nerfed, so who knows. It is all just speculation now
On the note of players being paid, I hate to be a debbie downer and I might even be an outlier here, but almost everyone ( even the pros that preach how good it is after they played it ) say the game LOOKS and SOUNDS like garbage. Thats where all the skepticism is coming from.
Doesn’t matter to me, i’ll still play it. If I dropped 60 bucks on Portal 2 for 5 hours of gameplay and some potatoes on the side, I obviously dont mind dropping it on SFxT
Honestly, I wish it would replace SF4. Because, let’s be honest:
Does anybody actually like Street Fighter 4?
I’m willing to bet that 75% of the community only plays SF4 because it’s the game that everyone else plays, and because it’s the easiest to get good at. That’s exactly why I play it too, everyone only plays SF and Marvel, and I’m just awful at games like Marvel so I just have to play SF4. But when is the last time you’ve ever heard someone say that it’s their favorite fighter? Because I haven’t, pretty much ever. People always get hype for Marvel, other games like 3S, KoF, Blazblue, etc. have strong cult followings that wouldn’t trade the game for the world, but SF4? Nobody cares, there’s no hype outside of major tournaments. They just force themselves to play it because it’s what they’re “supposed” to play. I wish SFxT turns out to be similar enough to SF4 but more popular and more fun, so we can just put this boring, slow game away forever.
But it probably won’t happen, not while it’s still so popular. Really, I think it’ll be more like CvS2: it’s big, but it doesn’t really replace the other games, so much as stands beside them. But I can dream sigh
It’s the best. And that ain’t no fraud. Sorry, haters, that train has passed and you’ve been proven wrong. See the corner over there? Go cry in it and HOLD THAT!

I just hope people give it a chance. So many are like gems are just a way for Capcom to get more money, or so and so characters not in the game so no buy or Pandora’s going to be broke some how. Honestly i hope it does become the flagship game, so all the og,elitist, fanboys might quiet down a bit and just play the game instead of complaining.
Sanford loved MvC3 pre-launch
just sayin
