I think with Seattle Marvel dead and only the EC playing, it was only a matter of time before it died everywhere, seeing as how basically everyone EC goes to every tournament. And of course when Sanford beat Justin, it was like yeah ok, it’s finished now. Marvel is gone. Maybe there would still be some drive if Justin was still actively playing and there was anyone else with a decent shot of beating him, but to beat Justin you would first have to be better than Sanford, then after that you’d have to have played Justin alot. No one has these things. Marvel will still be played, don’t mistake it, but it’s still dead.

The game lost a lot of steam a while ago, but for alot of players beating Justin became the reason to play, that’s probably why marvel lived as long as it did.

There’s a lot to be said about the chase for a title. While I’m sure a lot of you don’t watch wrestling, one of the most base premise behind a successful wrestling company is a heel champion (in this case Justin Wong who seemed to be hated despite not really pissing anyone off) holding onto a belt while one good guy after another (read Sanford, Brandon) keep gunning for it and fail. With Sanford finally taking the title from Justin, you’re pretty much stuck in a position where the fans (ie every other player) is content to let it happen because they like Sanford. Now if someone (Justin included) were to actually step up and take the title from Sanford that isn’t generally liked (I don’t know the whole Marvel scene so I’ll refrain from using names) and ran with another long reign, it’d build interest again.
Personal vote? I’d love to see DSP win the title and have enough skill to hold onto it for a long period of time because everyone loves beating that guy. He knows how to play the bad guy to a tee.
on that note above. i think its sorta cool that there is a player most hated by people, if he is. it kinda like you said, makes you want to become the best. hell, all top players should just be cocky assholes that make you wanna go home and spend hours of your time perfecting your game. aaaah so melodramtic
