Wii Thread 4.0, WEEUWEEUWEEUWEE!

If I can’t find a decently priced computer, going with this as well, that Red Wii bundle is damn sexy.

I more or less agree with Stu’s list, he knows his games well.

I got my copy of Pinball Hall of Fame Gottlieb Collection and its fucking sweet as hell.

If you enjoyed the Williams Collection, this one is a no brainer.

I think I paid roughly $10 for each.

If anyone here hasn’y played ‘de Blob’, then you should be ashamed of yourself. It’s loads of fun.

An addendum to my last post about DKC Returns:

I tried the Wiimote + Nunchuk config, and it is infinitely better than the Wiimote alone config. You don’t need a run button, you can use either B or Z for stuff like holding barrels/vines/whatever, and it’s easier to shake, plus you can use either the Wiimote or the Nunchuk to shake (or both, for stuff like the Donkey/Diddy team-up roll).

I’m having significantly more fun with the game now. Still wanted it to be more, but I’ll live.

Dr. B manangles the gerfangles perdangled repititiously.

Got a chance to get some hands-on time with DKCR and I can see what Craig was talking about in accidental deaths since I went to scratch an itch and Donkey went ‘WWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!’. It’s only happened once though…I think if you’re more aware of it though it’s not that bad. I actually think it probably plays better with Wiimote + nunchuk as well Specs. I played through the first world to the end and I seem to be able to find all the Kong letters but can’t for the life of me complete any of the stages with all the puzzle pieces. I’ll probably try to sacrifice some of my Colors time to get more DKCR time in.

Japan Numbers week of 11/15
Call of Duty, PSP Pull Huge Numbers in Japan - Wii News at IGN

The subtitled version of COD: BO (PS3) topped the charts and the 360 version showed up in the lower top 10. Pokemon B&W and Super Mario Collection are still floating around the top with newcomer Super Fossil Fighters.

Apparently 360 saw an increase 3 fold over there…but I almost forgot how ‘well’ 360 was selling over there to begin with. Sony’s systems are tag teaming the top. Hardware went PSP, PS3, Wii, DSi LL, DSi, 360, Lite, Go, and PS2.

Epic Mickey reviews are rolling in

IGN and GT gave the game 8.0 and 8.2 respectively…both citing control issues and camera issues among the games biggest issues while also saying combat seems to play second fiddle to everything else. If I was to suggest a video review to watch it’d be IGN’s since it doesn’t show anymore bosses really.

Anyone planning on nabbing it day 1?

Edit:

Conduit 2 - Intro Video
http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/theconduit2/video/6284535/conduit-2-intro-video#toggle_video

I expect to be disappointed by Epic Mickey but I am keeping my Amazon pre-order. Of course, I hope to be pleasantly surprised. I’ve been skeptical about the gameplay for a long time now, but I have played through games where the overall experience was fantastic despite mediocre gameplay.

I am getting Epic Mickey day one. Please believe.

I’m considering buying Tatsunoko vs Capcom this weekend; fighting games haven’t been able to keep me interested lately, however. I’m either turned off by the complex system, or I’m not interested in learning pages of complex maneuvers. What can I say, I’m getting old and RPGs are my bread n’ butter. I just want something I can sit down with and play for a bit. I played SSBB quite a bit, and then it sat on my shelf for month with an hour here or there every four months: I lose interest in it.

I’m an OG fighter player that hung up his hardcore belt a long time ago, but still remembers the good old days of spending countless hours trying to master combos; is TvC for me?

Also, can anyone tell me how good the system is in Arc Rise Fantasia? The battle and weapon systems look great, even in the shadow of cliche jrpg jack-assery.

Thanks, SRK.

finally got to play some dkcr. thoughts.

  • little TOO “kiddy”. first “boss” was so gay. that stupid frog got nothin on OG dk bosses. pirate bird boss(dk2) dropping eggs on yo ass was EVIL! :amazed: with evil music n everything. not some shitty jazz music(whatever this shit is lol)

  • gets repetitive at times. og dk had water, cave, and all kinds of variety in first area. here I am just running through green jungle. at least I got to play a roller coaster stage.

  • hate that stupid pig on continue checkpoint. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT? gtfo plz. dont get all cute n shit. I am trying to fight some baddies up in here. EVIL THINGS!

  • music is too average. as least so far. even the stuff that sounds kinda good are old tracks from dk1.

  • controls isnt as smooth. I am moving little slow

overall still good so far. I am just hoping it doesnt get too repetitive.

My girlfriend has been playing through Super Mario Galaxy and I’ve been playing through Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I remember when I first had a Wii I said I hated SMG. I still do. I tried playing the first one again and I had the same results as I did the first time. Spotty jumping mechanics, horrible camera angles, bad level designs. And just generally boring. I was constantly falling asleep while I was playing. Just like the first time I played it when I had my first Wii.

But, something about SMG2. I can’t explain it, but it just feels infinitely better than the first one. Jump mechanics are better, camera angles have greatly improved. The level designs seem more focused. Everything about it just seems better than the first one. The old school world map is pretty cool. But at the same time I find the original home base from SMG1 better where you had to go from observatory to observatory. I liked that. I’d much rather have that than the giant Chia Pet Battle Sphere.

Sorry nobody responded to you in the past couple of days…I was waiting to see if anyone else could answer about Arc Rise…and unfortunately someone else is still going to have too on the systems of the game.

I also can’t honestly tell whether you’d enjoy TVC or hate it. It definitely has more depth than brawl but everyone has their preferences and even despite TVC being an awesome game there going to be things no matter how small they may be that will push it right into the ‘I FUCKIN HATE THIS SHIT! IT’S THE WORST GAME EVER MADE!’ category for them. It’s more simplified than MVC2 and easier to jump into so it’s possible to play it in short spurts and still get some enjoyment out of it while retaining a chance to go deeper into the rabbit hole if you want too. I’d reccommend it…considering what you’re telling me but of course that’s my opinion.

RPG’s have still been kinda sparse unfortunately hopefully that will change starting next year with Last Story and Xenoblade but they’ve been pretty quiet about plans to release either of those games in other territories yet…

Picking it up on Day 1. Phantom Blot as the main villain man can’t miss that. He’s from the old Disney comic strips but has appeared on Duck Tales once and House of Mouse twice. And Gremlin Gus! Man that’s hardcore.

Disney got the rights to Oswald the Rabbit back (Mickey Mouse only exists because Walt lost the rights to Oswald) and they decided to reintroduce him to us in a video game of all things, with all of his grunts and stuff voiced by Frank Welker! Interesting times we live in.

I’m one of those old foggies that says screw every Disney animated movie that came after Jungle Book, IE the last one Walt worked on. Okay not all of them (I won’t mention ones I hate to avoid death threats) but most of them really. This game is not going to reference anything past Jungle Book.

As an aside for current Disney, well what I consider current anyway the Disney Afternoon cartoons were all dope. I wonder why they could never get stuff that good on the big screen. Even the Duck Tales movie gets owned by the Duck Tales TV show for free. The Goofy movies left out the MILF Peg. Seriously are you even trying?

By the way I’m sick and tired of Kingdom Hearts and this will not be Kingdom Hearts. I’ve been to Aladdin Land, Hercules Land etc. in THREE GAMES ALREADY! Why oh why do I still have to keep going to the same freaking places again, sometimes more than once in the same game? Disney lend Squeenix some Disney Afternoon shows if they need more worlds! If I have to go to Aladdin Land AGAIN someone is getting stabbed! No not really… Yes really… Maybe… :wonder:

Ha ha, Sano, you’ll have to give us some impressions on Epic Mickey. Been anticipating that one myself.

Too much stuff on the Wii I need to get. As much as I’d like to support the video game companies, we are still in a recession and I’m just some poor black mofo so I’m gonna have to get some of my Wii games used again.

I hear you man. I’m doing alright but everyone is feeling the pinch. It usually balances out since most of the games I want come out a few months apart. This is my last game for 2010 though. Everything else I’m waiting for is coming out in 2011.

Premo Secret Santa just hooked me up with Okami, Sin/Punishment, Muramasa and SamShoAntho. Glorious.

While I do prefer the softer hues of PS2 Okami, I like this game on Wii better. So fun and beautiful. Damn I miss Clover…

Muramasa is fun yo. Just don’t play it Wii Mote + Chuck. It’s awful and you’ll be constantly jumping when you don’t mean to.

I’m interested to hear both of your impressions on Epic Mickey, Stuart and Sano.

DKCR got put in our Wii so I imagine copies are getting put in other Wii kiosks…so if you wanna try out the game before plunking down the $50 then you get a chance to do so now.

I forgot Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time is out…anyone pick that up? There’s only been 3 reviews so far and so far media is saying ‘meh’ but user reviews are saying otherwise…

Nintendo’s Black Friday Sales
Nintendo’s Black Friday Sales Results - Wii News at IGN

600,000 Wii Consoles and 900,000 DS. They actually sold 50,000 more this year on wii’s and 100,000 less on DS this year. Find it interesting that Wii sold more on this year on black friday then last year since sales have supposedly slowed. 3DS is within 4 months away and DS is still selling like that…I’ve actually started to get the calls asking when we’re going to take the reserves on this thing. Ahhhh jeez…

I feel Nintendo should probably look into doing some kind of LOZ bundle for Skyward Sword when it comes out. There are plenty of people who care about the series that don’t currently own a Wii or got rid of it. It’d be a good way of enticing them into grabbing one and give them a chance to go back and play some of the other games they missed out on. I doubt they’ll do one though…

Put in about two and half hours into Epic Mickey and this game is a lot of fun! It’s not perfect and I’ll get to why in a bit and it’s kind of too bad because they were so close, but it is a solid purchase.

First and foremost there is an incredible amount of detail and almost everything in the game is a nod to an old Disney cartoon. I kind of feel like it would be a crime to mention any of the references because part of the fun in the game is that it makes you feel like a little kid when you found something that you recognize right away. Like you found a little treasure just for yourself.

Now if you are not an old foggie like me and you grew up during the time when you thought the Disney Channel was all about Miley Cyrus since forever lol well there are references to some of the newer Disney films that you probably encountered in the Kingdom Hearts or whatever. Oh and once you unlock the credits to the game they show you a few clips of really old Disney cartoons so you can pick up some of the references there.

The controls are like chopsticks until you get used to it but they are responsive and after a while it’s not so bad.

While I was playing the game there are parts of the background that you can fill in if you want to for no reason at all. Sometimes I felt I was being super anal coloring everything like a kid with a coloring book ha ha! But it was really cool to do.

One of the best things I noticed is when Mickey Mouse walks slow he looks like classic Mickey tippy toeing.

If I could compare this to any game it would probably be Mickey’s Castle of Illusion because it just gave me that same nostalgic ‘Oh hey I’m a little kid playing with Mickey’ feeling.

Now for the downsides. The camera is frustating at times. You can control it, but you can’t control it all of the time and sometimes it will kill you if you try to make a jump that’s away from where the camera is fixed. Right off the bat just assume that if you think you are going to die making a certain jump chances are you will be right and it will save you a few headaches… It might help if the camera was, either fixed just a tad throughout or a little smarter in some parts of the game.

Combat is a problem too because you have to deal with armies of little annoying guys, the Wiimote and that blasted camera again which is not your friend. I think maybe a lock-on feature just for combat would’ve helped out but hey it’s a Wiimote game and they want you to move your hand around I guess. It does get easier as you go and so far combat is a small part of the game. A lot of times it’s little annoying guys you can just run away from and ignore if you want to. I started to get the hang of it by spinning around to knock everyone away and then attack them with the Wiimote using the Thinner Paint. That worked alright.

I assume this isn’t going to be a problem for some and for me it isn’t, but if you are thinking about buying this game for a little kid there is an oddity which I have never seen in a Disney video game period and it just makes me scratch my head.

Throughout the game there are a few tutorials. Not tutorials for really important stuff, little things that right now don’t seem as important. Since there is no real dialog in the game aside from grunts and things like that one of the Gremlins in the game talks you through it and you have to read subtitles to figure out what he’s saying. For some reason and only in these parts the dialog goes really fast. I’m talking Neon Genesis Evangelion Japanese sub fast. Heck I could barely keep up. It might not be so bad because whenever you unlock these tutorials you can view them in a gallery mode so maybe kids can watch them over and over again until they get it. Or pull an adult into the room.

Well I guess there’s always a chance that they didn’t make this game with kids in mind anyway with all of the old school references but I mean a game with Mickey, like come on really?

Despite some issues I had the music and the experience was really soothing and relaxing overall. The camera vexed me here and there but it wasn’t enough to really hamper my playing experience. If I were to rate it right now I’d say it is a good game but it is only a few short paint strokes of being a great game. Mind you I’ve only played two and a half hours so don’t take this as a review or anything, just a first impression I guess. Pound for pound not perfect but so far so good and I’m really getting a kick out of all of the old school references.

I’ll play some more tomorrow!

I went to pick up Epic Mickey today and ended up buying Golden sun and 9 doors for the DS instead haha. I?ll pick it up eventually I guess too bad about the camera though.

I’m not getting Epic Mickey until I get my srk secret santa gift just in case they got it for me.

On world 3 in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Haven’t gotten bored of it yet, really. Cloud Mario is really fun.
It’s still baffling how much better SMG2 is compared to the first one.
