Wii Thread 4.0, WEEUWEEUWEEUWEE!

Nah, it was paintead by a friend of mine. SNES, NES, controllers & Super Metroid were all painted by him.

Search YouTube search for a guy named jayrod2.

@Abbachio: If I remember right, and someone please correct me if I’m wrong, TvC stick connects to the Wiimote which means some games and all GCN games wouldn’t be compatible. Sucks for me, being obsessed with Ikaruga. I hear they’re great for just playing TvC though. I bet you can find a “sanwafied” one on the trading forum.

@Sonichuman: I’d like to read your thoughts on the manga and on it and Other M in relation to each other.

I am…PATIENTLY waiting for dat new donkey kong!

They had mentioned it prior to the game’s release. Can’t remember when or who it was that said it (Reggie maybe).

By the way, I had found the manga on a different site: Metroid Manga - Comics and Manga (Metroid Recon)

A bit easier to find, I think.

On the subject of Wii games, someone linked me to this list: Wii - /v/'s Recommended Games Wiki

Take it as you will, but I’m sure any type of gamer can find at least a few things there that they’d be interested in.

I’d also like to say thanks to you guys for this thread. I bought my Wii in 2006 and so far I only have two games made specifically for Wii, haha. I will definitely be getting some more soon. I bought this thing with my hard-earned money, it needs to be put to better use damn it!

I liked it for the most part. Ridley is far more of a douche than I thought and Samus acted pretty much how I expected her to act at that young age. Right down to her having PTSD…You get your parents killed in front of you at 3 years old and you think that’s not going to be imprinted on you? I still say the most important aspect is that she actually overcame everything and ended being stronger for it. I think Nintendo could have avoided some of the Metroid fanbase split if they had actually translated this comic themselves and either threw it in as a preorder bonus or they should have just released it on it’s own while Zero Mission and Fusion were out. This has been out for what…checks 6-7 years now? Most people wouldn’t even be aware of this backstory if they just played the games because they’ve never even hinted at it until Other: M.

I don’t even know if that would have been enough though since I’m sure regardless there are going to be gamers want Samus to be silent and kicking ass 24/7 and any diverging or shattering of this perception would automatically elicit a ‘DO NOT WANT’ reaction.

I have 30-36 games for my Wii currently with the addition of Sonic Colors. At least 95% of it is console exclusive. I’ve been finding plenty of games to play on it save for that one game drought the system had.

I try to keep the front updated with titles and again I say if there’s a game you feel is worthy to put on the list because you enjoyed it then let me know.

I won’t be able to get DK day one since Christmas is coming to own my ass. I’ll have to live through how great the game is through hearing from you guys. I look forward to hearing any rage stories lol.

GT DKCR review:
Donkey Kong Country Returns Video Game, Review | Video Clip | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com

9.0 They made small complaints about the gesture controls mapped to the roll and did mention about the difficulty. Pretty close to the same thing IGN said.

Just to remind you guys…DKCR is checks clock released today. Obligatory ‘IT’S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG’

I have like…9 games for my wii right now. But I’ve only had it for a week. I just got the (imo) essentials.

Toys R Us is giving away a free shirt and players guide with the purchase of DKCR. Shirt is dark green with a large picture of DK pondering a bunch of bananas. I’ll never wear the shirt, but I will be cutting out DK and doing something cool with it. Not sure what yet. Good quality shirt though, in case anyone is interested. They also have a much nicer black one wth a stone-faced DK before some red designs, but that one isn’t free. Shame…

Now I wait for Epic Mickey.

La Mulana had [media=youtube]BgPHW_99ay4&feature=player_embedded#!"]a long gameplay trailer released a couple weeks ago that I wasn’t aware of until now. Music sounds pretty awesome if what’s in the trailer is in the game. They apparently had [so they’re currently trying to fix it up.

I’ve been seeing a lot of rumblings about Mario Party 2 possibly getting a release on VC soon…if it does I’m down for that.

Nintendo has told HVS not to use the wii speak device for Conduit 2. So instead they’re making chat enabled through the headbanger headsetthat was released with Black Ops. I wouldn’t get any ideas about using this for games that came out before this device (like MH3…:frowning: ) since from what I’ve heard so far it would require some type of patch for it to work…and we all know about patches and Nintendo in the same sentence. I may have to buy this set though when Conduit 2 drops.

**Fuck Retro Studios.

Fuck Nintendo.

Fuck all the positive reviews of the highly disappointing DKC Returns.

Faaaaaaaaaaaack.**

I need my Dr. B Man-Semen barrels.

^ waitwut :xeye: its not that good??

Can I play Muramasa:The Demon Blade with just the wiimote, or do I have to use the nunchuk as well? I found a cheap copy, and I’m thinking about picking it up.

Thanks, SRK.

Has to be wiimote+chuck, classic or game cube.

I’d say you made good picks from what you described.

I have more Wii games on my DVD rack than any other console, around 20-30 games. There’s hardly anything on PS3 I play and Xbox 360 I mostly play the arcade titles so no physical copies. Wii is the opposite; it’s got a ton of stuff I like but it all comes out at the same damn time.

I have about 10 more on my “to get list” but money has been tight this month and next month is christmas, and I’m moving in January or February. So they will probably be on my “to get list” for a while.

Okay, so I probably exaggerated a bit. It’s still fun, but… there are some very questionable design decisions.

  1. You roll by shaking the Wiimote. Not by tapping a button, but by shaking the fucking Wiimote. And you can still roll off a ledge and jump in mid-roll midair. Which means to make a precise jump, you have to hold the 1 button (to run, for distance), shake (and hope your shake is accepted by the Wii), and jump. Instead of it just being a fucking button.

  2. Read David Sirlin’s old article on why the DKC games were great. Observe as how the first level has a letter O over a pit. “Oh,” I thought, “the game’s trying to tell me there’s something down there.” I fall. I die. And this is just before the mid-level checkpoint, so now I’m back at the beginning.

  3. You have to hold 1 during the whole fucking game. As I said in the Mario thread: this is already a bullshit concept for Mario, a game where you always want to run, and the Mario games that DON’T have this nonsense (the first Yoshi’s Island, the 3D Marios) prove that it isn’t fucking necessary. Or look at the Kirby games, where you double-tap to dash and, unlike Mario, you don’t always want to dash; fine. Well, not only do you always want to run in DKC Returns, but you HAVE to hold 1 to grab vines and the like, so if your thumb starts getting cramped and you let go, you start falling.

  4. This game’s cardinal fucking sin: you can’t play as Diddy single-player. To play as Diddy, you have to play coop multiplayer and be player 2. Playing alone, you’re always Donkey Kong, and when you get Diddy he’s always riding on your back giving you the extra abilities you get by having him ride you.

  5. Back to the shaking the Wiimote thing: you have to do that for a LOT of shit: ground pound (which you do a lot more of now), blowing flowers (down + shake, which you have to do a LOT of), and rolling (back/foward + shake). Also, Diddy’s gun is fired by shaking (no more cartwheel). The blow blows and could have been trashed, and the other two actions could have been mapped to the 1 button, with run being automatic the way it should have been since Yoshi’s Island said “look, you don’t need that shit.”

It’s a damn shame, because the level design is cool, the game is at least mildly challenging (even beyond control issues), and the visuals are great (for a Wii, at least). But fuck, there are some serious issues, and they shouldn’t have been there. And that’s been Retro Studios “thing” since they followed up the amazing Metroid Prime 1 with the lackluster Metroid Prime 2 and the “use motion controls or fuck off” philosophy of Prime 3/Trilogy.

Rant over.

Anti-Satan is Dr. B’s tag buddy.

Thanks, Stu.

Sonic Colors is solid. If you’ve been waiting for Sonic to be in a good 3d game for awhile then Colors will definitely help with that…and it’s definitely better than Sonic 4 imo.
