The Decline of the Virtual Console
The Decline of the Virtual Console - Wii Feature at IGN

I’m sure most of us have noticed the near diminished/near non existent prescense of VC as of lately so of course an article about this was going to come up at some point. It has some interesting facts and statistics in it…I wasn’t even aware that Japan has 573 VC games for DL as of August 9 in comparison to our 360 games. I would have thought this could have been a good opportunity to bring some good games over that never quite made it over similiar to Sin and Punishment. I don’t think it’s over but I am wondering what the hold up on the release of some of the obvious titles are.

IGN HoopWorld review:
HoopWorld Review - Wii Review at IGN

8.0 This game was coming XBLA but instead it came out on WiiWare. I didn’t know anything about this game but judging from review and thevideos it’s like NBA Jam with a bit of Mario Kart weapons thrown in. Kinda sucks that this doesn’t have Classic Controller support or Online WiFi play. It’s priced at 1000 points so it might be something to look into while holding over for Jam.

Do you guys think that modding the Wii to have channels that emulated the titles that would have come out for VC has had an effect of the lack of VC games that are released here in the US?

I do know I have an SNES emulator for my Wii, and I’m going to be adding an NES one soon. I wanted to wait on the release of certain games the “legal way”, but it just took too long IMO.

Several factors could be involved and there really isn’t a way of finding out unless you worked for Nintendo but like the article stated the shift in focus to WiiWare is probably one of the biggest reasons.

During August 19-22 Nintendo is going to be at GamesCom. Titles to show up include DKC Returns, Metroid: Other M, LOZ: Skyward Sword and Kirby’s Epic Yarn

Voice Acting Masterclass - Arc Rise

The voice acting in Arc Rise is still hilarious to me.

Okami is fucking beautiful and I am grossly ashamed it took me this long to play it.

Are you actually enjoying that game SNAAAAKE?

I’m trying to read this Iwata Asks: Metroid Other M articleand I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish it before I go to work so I wanted to make sure you guys knew about it. Has really good information into the process and thoughts of the game and some new footage scattered through out it as well…mostly to illustrate some points made in the interview.

IGN AU has also started to play a final build of the game and gave 5 things that they are enjoying about it thus far.

Simply amazing!

not really. its stooopid…

what are some good VC and wiiware games??

Figured as much…

WiiWare games are on the front page. I had thought about making a VC section for the front but there’d be a hell of a lot of games on that list. I could make one if there was a demand for it. I don’t know what you’ve played though…here’s a quick list of stuff.

Super Mario RPG (SNES)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Star Fox 64 (N64)
LOZ series (NES, SNES, N64…most reccommended would be OoT, Majora’s Mask and LttP)
F-Zero (SNES)
F-Zero X (N64)
Donkey Kong Country series (SNES)
Super Mario series (NES, SNES, N64)
Paper Mario (N64)
Sin and Punishment (N64)
Mario Kart series (SNES, N64)
Sonic series (Genesis)
Streets of Rage series (Genesis)
Ristar (Genesis)
Toe Jam & Earl series (Genesis)
Fatal Fury series (Neo Geo)
King of Fighters series (Neo Geo)

take note this doesn’t have everything on it it’s just a quick rummage through what they have and then there’s the games I haven’t played as well.

Software went NCAA Football 2010 (360, 368.0K), NCAA Football 2010 (PS3, 298.8K), Crackdown 2 (208.8K), SMG2 (193.0K), Lego Harry Potter (DS, 141.7K), Red Dead Redemption (360), Lego Harry Potter (Wii, 133K), DQIX (132K), NSMB Wii (128K), COD: MW2 (360). The only 2 games from last year on this list are COD and NSMB Wii.

A ‘new’ Tales game came out on the PSP made no.1 which probably won’t come over here either. Both versions of Sengoku Basara are in the top 10 with SMG2 still running middle of the pack.

PSP and PS3 are still running the train on the top spots. Hardware went PSP, PS3, DSi LL, DSi, Wii, 360, Lite, PS2, and Go.

Oh shit, seriously? During that intro cinematic I was like “Naw, this is the PS3 version or something…”

Well seeing how the PS3 has it’s own Wiimote now, a PS3 sequel or port would be veeeeeeeeeeeeery nice…

Gamescom: What Went Wrong with Red Steel 2? - Wii News at IGN

This saddens me since I really liked RS2 and the potential that could have came from it. I kinda feel bad for Jason since he sounds pretty frustrated to the point that he’d say to future designers who were making ‘serious’ motion controlled games that ‘we’re fucked’. I wonder how well this would have done if RS1 was actually a solid game.

not sure what I think about this. Looks like it’s doing a rail shooter type of thing like what Transformers: Cybertron Wii did.

I’m curious as to how this game will be recieved both critically and commercially. This could easily end up being a ‘damned if they do, damned if they don’t’ deal if this game actually ends up being a critical success but finicky Wii owners don’t buy the game. What kind of message would that send to Nintendo especially with NSMB Wii still selling like nobody’s business?

Red Steel 1 wasn’t bad at all. Decent fun imo, 7/10. Only issue is some annoying missions and sometimes the controls spaz out.

THQ announced uDraw, a Wii tablet accessory

Actually sounds like it has potential, I doubt we will see much from it, unless THQ teams up with other developers in its usage, but I have soft spot for creative software and this might be the best the Wii will have if only for precision.

That could be quite nice for the growing artist.
