Wii Thread 4.0, WEEUWEEUWEEUWEE!

you must have missed the memo on Nintendo’s 1st party games. They keep their value for a LOOOOOOOONG ass time. You wanna know the biggest offender? The pokemon games for the GBA still go for $30 used at our store. In fact to be honest it doesn’t even have to be developed by nintendo and just carry one of their top characters. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is STILL $50 new even with the slightly better sequal out. I think Metroid Prime 3 was still going for 49.99 until Metroid Prime Trilogy came out and it dropped to 19.99. LOZ: Twilight Princess was $50
new all the way up until it went out of stock. I put money on it that Galaxy 1 won’t budge in price even after 2 comes out.

Also semi related to this, I’m wondering when Nintendo is going to get down off of their pile of money for a moment to start putting out a Player’s Choice line up. Even though I know they don’t have a need to do so since anything they seem to put out people eat it up but it’s been about 4 years now. Microsoft and Sony both have their Platinum/Greatist hits lineup already going and I just feel it’s a bit lacking on their end. I’m hoping they’ll introduce it this year but I’m not gonna hold my breath on it.

Just wanted to drop in really quick to let people know that GTTV is doing a Nintendo special on Friday. Reggie is gonna be there with possibly more tidbits on Mario and Metroid and the first exclusive trailer of NBA Jam will show up. Might get an idea of what they’re planning for E3 but Reggie might threaten Geoff Keighley with a shank when they go to commercial.

OMG HE’S ON FIRE!!!

I don’t want to get hype for this game and then it end up being ass. DON’T FUCK IT UP EA! and please have it be able to go online.

Calling should be out today…but I didn’t see it at all in my shipping at the store.

EA Sports Active Going Multiplatform

If this counts as a game then that’s the 4th or 5th exclusive title that Nintendo’s lost.

Sin and Punishment 2 boxart

I like NA’s art better imo.

IGN Tiger Woods 2011 Wii Hands-On

It’s gonna be a better 2010 for the most part

General Gaming related news stuff:

I don’t know if you guys have been paying attention to Sony’s Move controller at GDC but this thing has impressed me personally. I think Nintendo is actually going have a problem if it actually catches steam and gains ground. Then that means that Nintendo’s console really will be only worth having for first party once again. It’s not set in stone yet but I really think Nintendo should really be taking Sony’s first shot as serious as possible. They may even have to release a new console earlier than expected possibly by probably within the next 2 years. Legend of Zelda (if it they truly are releasing it this holiday) will have to bring the noise. I can also easily see Ubisoft moving Red Steel 3 to Sony’s console. E3 this year is gonna be hype!

GDC 10: Sakamoto’s Technique

While he didn’t really provide any big news on Metroid he did provide a bit of insight into some of the workings that went in between the Nintendo and Team Ninja collaboration. Team Ninja actually wanted to make this a 3d game while Sakamoto was adamant about just using the wiimote so they had to reach a compromise. This makes me curious though as to how a Team Ninja produced 3d Metroid would play. Would they have the camera firmly lodged between Samus’ buttcheeks as you walked around and fought monsters?

IGN The Last Story first look:

no in game footage or trailer or anything just info on the story and setting with some art.

February 2010 NPD:

360 actually came out on top out of the home consoles this month. I believe that it’s partially due to Sony and Nintendo having issues with stock. Numbers went DS (613.2K), 360 (422.0K), Wii (360.1K), PS3 (360.1K), PSP (133.4K) and PS2 (101.9K). I fully expect this month to be dominated by PS3 due to Kratos’ anger issues…that is unless Zeus decides that PS3’s are still hard to find.

NSMB Wii got drilled off the top by a Big Daddy. Software went BioShock 2 (360 - 562.9K), New Super Mario Bros. Wii. (555.6K), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360 - 314.3K), Just Dance (275.4K), Wii Sports Resort W/ Wii Motion Plus* (272.5K), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 ( PlayStation 3 - 252.8K), Mass Effect 2 (360 - 246.5K), Dante’s Inferno: Divine Edition ( PlayStation 3 - 242.5K), Dante’s Inferno (360 - 224.7K), and Heavy Rain (219.3K)

GDC 10: The Grinder No Longer First-Person Shooter

The hell is HVS doing!?

IGN Tournament of Legends GDC 10 Hands-on

For a wii game this looks quite good from screens. They added in Classic Controller support so you don’t have to swing your arms if you don’t want too.

The Grinder - Hair Trigger Gameplay (360)

:frowning: I want my FPS back personally since I was never a fan of Gauntlet type games. I hope the Wii version remains unchanged.

Max & the Magic Marker - WiiWare Tire Surfing Gameplay

anyone play this game yet?

Thinking now…I nearly forgot that Pokemon was coming out next week. Will Kratos be able to fight the army of pokeymans that block his way to the top?

Japan Numbers 3/12/10

Few things got switched around this week. NSMB Wii is still holding on to #4 and the new Pokemon Ranger game for the DS took top spot followed by .hack//Link for the PSP and Dragon Quest IX Ultimate hits for the DS. Resident Evil 5 Alt Edition for the PS3 got put down to #10 and Kenka Bancho got booted from the top to #5. The last newcomer was Nobunaga’s Ambition Tendou on the PS3. I can’t remember the last time I saw a 360 title in the top 10.

PSP is still holding it down over there and interestingly enough Nintendo fanboys can’t point out this week that the sum of all the DS systems is still beating out the PSP. Hardware went PSP, Wii, PS3, DSi LL, DSi, Lite, 360, PS2, and Go

GDC Raw: One Man’s Account

Matt reports on some mumurings that have been rumbling around during GDC. A lot of this stuff is coming from an anonymous source from in the industry. Some things that were said is that people are having problems programming Natal and the guy believes that Move may ultimately in the long run out do the Wiimote in responsiveness. I wonder will we actually be able to finally see what the bottom of an Avatar’s shoe looks like this year? (that’s right…I’m still laughing at that incident)

End Bosses: Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime

Nice interview with reggie where you can see some of his thoughts on Sony’s Move, Microsoft’s Natal and see the feeble attempts of Matt to try and pry some information out of him on E3 and the succesor to Wii. I don’t know whether to think Reggie’s demeanor as just laid back and awesome or just arrogant but he’s definitely rubbing some of the people in the comments the wrong way . There’s some mad hate on Reggie right now.

NBA Jam (2010) - Teaser Trailer

don’t forget…full trailer gets shown tonight.

They didn’t really show anything new last night besides NBA Jam and Keighley’s attempts to get more information out of Reggie were about as successful as Matt’s

If you haven’t seen the full trailer for NBA JAM yet then here

Edit:

IGN Rage of the Gladiator review:

8.5 If it comes out next week I’ll dl and give thoughts.

I think Chairhome might have gotten kidnapped…either that or I imagine his stint as as a crime fighter went awry and he’s laying in an alley somewhere in a pool of blood hoping someone will drag him to the hospital. In any caseRage of the Gladiator did come out this week and Castlevania: Rondo of Blood for the VC. I’ll make sure to download it today and give it a playthrough and post up my thoughts.

Red Steel 2 - Webisode 1
http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/867131/red-steel-project-untitled-sequel/videos/redsteel2_trl_webisode_ep1_31210.html

voice acting is a bit off…kind of sucks that she got lion king’d though

So I played Rage of the Gladiator and so far I’m enjoying it. I put about a good half hour into it to mess around and get the gist of it. It most definitely is Punch-out!! at it’s core though but with RPG elements and medieval. It’s kind of nice being able to go and upgrade your guy with new stats and stuff after each fight. Characters have been somewhat amusing and the graphics look really nice for a wii ware title. I didn’t play it with Wii mote and nunchuck or Wii motion plus with nunchuk since I prefer to play punch-out!! games old school so I don’t know how well the motion controls work for it. It’s not an exact replica of punch-out though especially in some gameplay mechanics. I don’t know how to exactly describe it but it feels…loose? I guess that’s the word I’ll use for it.

A couple of things that I didn’t like from it in comparison to it’s arcade boxing brethren is 1) not being able to use my super punch/magical combo unless the opponent was stunned and 2) when you hit people with counterhits you can only hit them once…that’s it. You can’t follow up and really punish them if you time hits correctly. I don’t know if that changes later on or not through upgrades or anything. Even still I’d reccommend giving it a shot. For 1000 points I think it’s pretty worth it.

WTF?! It’s already the 16th and Calling isn’t out in Canada yet.

Fragile is suppposed to be out tomorrow in Canada. I’m not too optimistic about an on time release.

Stupid Gamestop/EBGames.

Be careful ofThe Calling. I’m trying to find out some impressions from people who have actually played and from what I’ve read so far they aren’t many enjoying it…but it’s better than Ju-On? lol. That sucks bad cause this game had good potential if it’s actually lame. If you buy it let us know your thoughts.

Remember those are shipping dates unless they are street dated like Red Steel 2. Hopefully Fragile wil be in tomorrow…anyone else picking this up?

Samurai Warriors 3 Set To Go Into Battle Exclusively on Wii:

Fall 2010 over here.

Europe gets SW3 on the 24th of May…lucky blokes.
Gonna get me a classic controller for this one.

I got a question for you guys. A friend of mine has his wii hacked, and he has all kinds of homebrew shit on his system, that’s pretty fucking cool. I was curious if I got something like that done if I would have to worry about lockout problems like on the psp? I still buy all my Wii games (like my psp games) but I probably won’t fuck with hacking it if it’s just going to pull some lock out bullshit.

Any info would be appreciated.

I thought when Sep was a mod he asked us not to discuss that sort of thing?

Or at least that was my understanding of it over on the Wii boards here. In any case since you’re a mod and you’re asking about it, without me going into too much detail, I had my Wii hacked maybe a year or so ago. There’s no lockout anything. The thing I would advise against however is doing the Wii updates every so often after it’s been hacked. I’d also advise against turning on Wii Connect24. From what I heard when either of those two are done, no lockouts occur, but I think it erases all the homebrew stuff you add. However I cannot confirm this for certain. Personally, something was wrong with my Wii Connect 24 before I had it hacked and it wouldn’t turn on anyways, and I couldn’t download any games from the Wii Ware channel as a result.

yeah I thought talking about hacking was taboo. Some updates of course are going to be inevitable if you want to play some of the games…and it seems Nintendo isn’t afraid to brick your Wii if from what that earlier report a few months ago showed.

As far as I remember, it’s consequential to ask about how to do it or where to go get ROMS, but not if you are asking about how it will affect your system’s legitimacy.

Loved the Monster Hunter Tri Demo so I pre-ordered. I got the bundle pack that comes with a classic controller since I don’t have a classic controller yet. It wasn’t too bad playing with the Wii Mote though. I only had to flick it once to draw the weapon out, the rest was all buttons.

Fuckin’ finally, my EBGames has copies of Calling for the Wii.

Gonna pick it up now. :bgrin:

If anyone is trying to find a console, I have a thread in Trading Post. I’m selling my Wii and all accessories together.
