Wii Thread 4.0, WEEUWEEUWEEUWEE!

428: F?sa Sareta Shibuya de

But it’s Japan-only.

Super Meat Boy Jumping First to XBLA:

raaandooommmm. I guess this would make the 4th Wii exclusive that got lost to the other consoles? It’s showing up on XBLA first then on PC and WiiWare. No current plans to bring it to PSN even though they had the game running on a PS3 kit. The XBLA version apparently is going to have online features but each version of the game is going to have some exclusive content like characters. Also big WTF @ people calling them sell-outs…seriously that shit is retarded lol.

IGN Red Steel 2 Hands on:

very positive preview…I was curious about how the camera doesn’t stray away horribly from the target when you’re making slashes. Very nice Ubisoft. So far the only complaints I remember reading were the 60 fps can actually dip if there’s a lot of enemies on screen, the gesture kills don’t use the wii motion plus, and some of the voice acting is hit or miss. This is the near final build though so it’s possible they may be able to iron out some of the wrinkles in the next few months. This seems to also have been tagged into the genre of ‘First Person Adventure’ now instead of shooter since shooting isn’t completly the main focus. I think I’m at like 80% hype for this title now.

IGN Endless Ocean: Blue World review:

7.0 At least he admits the game isn’t for him in the review. I have a feeling that if you liked the first game you probably won’t have too much of an issue with this one. [wow…1up gave this game a 10?](http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/endlessoceanblueworld?q=endless ocean)

There’s also another podcast that I’ll listen to and edit this post at the bottom if there’s anything good in it.

Podcast stuff:

interesting new ds rumors…specifically about ATI shrinking down Gamecube’s chips. Almost forgot the Nintendo Media Summit is this week…doubt any announcements on hardware will show up besides DSi XL but eh…never know. Wednesday at 9am…Cammie will be there is starting to cringe already They won’t be able to write up any of the stuff that they play until later at 9pm though.

Prince of Persia Wii will be there

More positive feedback on Red Steel 2…though they were ragging on the lady that teaches you stuff in the tutorial lol. One of the guys says this is what the first Red Steel should have been.

‘Sonic and Sega All-Stars is not a bad game…but not better than Mario Kart’. review goes up tomorrow. In the Wii version when you’re doing 4 player split screen some details in the stages are stripped out. Wii version is weaker in ghost data and uses friend codes. No gamecube controller support? (WTH Sega?)

Eternal Darkness liscense got renewed this weekend? interesting…Gonna have to try to do some digging on that.

/end podcast

Also didn’t notice that they put up some Red Steel 2 vids

Man Xenoblade looks pretty hype for me. Too bad I still don’t have a wii. Looks like it already kicks xenosaga in the face. Some screens on the magicbox if you guys haven’t seen them:

That looks baallllliiiin.

Xenoblade…I’m hyped to hell and back. Fucking FINALLY.

A main character in a Xeno game that isn’t Asian? What the hell’s going on here?

yeah I saw some magazine scans for xenoblade on rpgamer and it looks really good. I hope it gets a US release

GT Blaster Master: Overdrive review

4.8 Again they were a tad bit more harsh on the game even though their review had some of the same complaints to IGN’s. If you happen to decide to download and play it then give your thoughts.[/quote]

Overdrive is a great concept just not done correctly. And the main reason are the controls. You can’t change them and the non-support of CC/GC Controllers just make it worse. Vic Ireland is trying to get it patched up and there is a petition on GAF to update the controls for the US release and have it in the PAL release. But the game’s worse offense is that Jason the main character of the series has been replaced by some asshole named Alex. I understand your family is comatose but I really don’t give a shit. The NES version of Blaster Master is a classic and while Overdrive tries to live up to that legacy it falls a bit short. I’d suggest if you haven’t played the original to get that for the VC instead. And get a walkthrough because you will be getting lost a lot.

Blaster Master: Overdrive gets 7/10. Good but not the greatness I expect from the franchise.

And I picked up Data East: Arcade Classics and it’s alright and for the $20 price tag you can’t lose. But be aware that there is no Fighters History Dynamite, Tattoo Assassins, Night Slashers, WindJammers or any of Data East’s licensed games like RoboCop. G-Mode doesn’t own the rights to WindJammers so that’s why it’s not included. I have no idea why Fighters History or FHD is nowhere to be found but either they’re holding out for a sequel to this of FHD is being released in some other fashion. The real reason is that another company owns the rights to the Karnov character and since he’s all up in both of those that’s probably why. And Night Slashers not being included is just bad business. But I could imagine if they did and that right there lets me know that I’ll stick to playing it uncensored on MAME. Here’s the list of games below. Tell me how many you actually know.

BurgerTime
Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja
Burnin’ Rubber (Bump n’ Jump)
Caveman Ninja
Crude Buster
Express Raider
Heavy Barrel
Lock n’ Chase
Magical Drop III
Peter Pepper’s Ice Cream Factory
Secret Agent
Side Pocket
Street Hoop
Super Real Darwin
Wizard Fire

I only know about 9/15 so that may be a testament to me I guess. Each of the games have 5 achievements that unlock art and the like and when you do all 5 in a game you unlock a special mode of the game in question. I did it for Street Slam (I just can’t call it Street Hoop it sounds too silly.) and all it unlocks is the highest difficulty of the game. That could’ve been just a damn option in the menu. But to get the gritty though. The emulation isn’t very good at all. Load time issues, missing sounds and slowdown where it shouldn’t makes me wonder if more care was taken in this game’s creation could’ve it have been better?

If I had to give it a score I’d give it a 6/10. Mostly for the effort and Street Slam’s inclusion in the collection. If you got $20 to burn on a Wii game there are worse options and it could guarantee that we get a sequel to this with actual games that people give 2 shits about.

Now back to No More Heroes 2 already in progress. IN YO MUHFUCKIN FACE MUSCLE LVL7!!!

^ Sounds like the contols for Overdrive are indeed crummy and it’s not just the reviewers then. Hopefully they can get an update for CC and/or GC but I doubt it.

Metroid: Other M and Mario Galaxy 2 coming soon:

between June and August. Something tells me this Media Summit tomorrow just got a bit more awesome. I’m gonna be at work mostly when it’s going on…:frowning:

New Batman Title headed for Wii, DS

Batman: The Brave and The Bold. It’s being done by WayForward technologies…the same people who did A Boy and His Blob and Contra 4 on the DS so there’s a chance that this won’t be garbage.

WiiWare, Virtual Console Sales Exposed

A group called F.A.D.E (Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment) did an estimate of Nintendo’s sales. According to their numbers the top 20 WiiWare games accounted for 70% of it’s revenue while only being 10% of all the games. Nintendo produced titles are tops on VC while 3rd Parties are tops on WiiWare. Super Mario Bros. 3 apparently owns everything…AGAIN.

Tales of Graces Recalled in Japan:

It had some bugs…they is a fixin it. More than likely we’ll get the bugless one.

New NES Cartridge Released, Sells out immediately:

raaaanddooommmmm.

IGN Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Review:

8.0 complaints were basically the same thing that was mentioned in the podcast earlier. video review If i’m going to buy it…I’ll probably get the 360 version even though I like steering with the wii mote.

Red Steel 2 - Hidden Moves Trailer

The controls for the SOPHIA are pretty sluggish, but that’s about it. It’s absolutely nothing that got in my way while playing the game. I think some points should be taken off because it should be 100% responsive and customizable, but people are blowing it way out of proportion. It isn’t a dealbreaker and focusing on it kind of obscures Overdrive’s more significant issues.

It’s significantly better than anything else the Blaster Master series has put out since the first game, at any rate. BM2 was awful beyond belief, Enemy Below was copypasta with the worst stage design and I’m told even Blasting Again wasn’t that great. At least Overdrive is solid and enjoyable.

Just announced at the ongoing Nintendo Press Summit today: Super Mario Galaxy 2 comes out MAY 23. That means three months from today, you will be playing it.

Liveblog of conference

Monster Hunter Tri confirmed to have free online play. Gamestop will have a demo disc available (probably with pre-orders) in March. I think I may have to get this now.

Metroid Other M comes out June 27. Nice.

a new Super Mario Galaxy 2 trailer (looks awesome). only 3 months away!
And some new screens from Metroid: Other M. You play with the wiimote sideways, and at anytime you can point it at the screen and it’ll go first person. Weird.

WOW! Just wow!!! I’m so surprised. I really thought these games would get released sep-dec this year. But this is great, Super Mario Galaxy 2 my most anticipated game of the year. :woot:

I didn’t even know Monster Hunter Tri was subscription based in Japan. Glad its free in the States. Mario and Metroid coming so soon is a big surprise.

I’m glad that Cammie didn’t bring the fail this time. E3 should be really interesting. I gotta check out all this stuff! Some WiiWare titles look like they got some dates…I’ll make sure to update the front when I get a chance.

OMG MH Tri is free online to boot. I really think that when that game comes out im going to be stuck to my TV for weeks. Sin and Punishment 2, Mario Galaxy 2, and Metroid. This year is ridiculous.

Actually, this is kind of disappointing. I was hoping that Other M would be some kind of Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry-esque 3rd person, combo-centric, action oriented adventure game. But it’s just a 2.5D sidescroller with some first-person elements mixed in? Meh.

But it’s nice to know that these games are coming out this Summer. That’s actually pretty exciting. . .imagine, we’ll have all these AAA titles coming out when it’s not December. Color me excited.

Other: M I felt also threw a curve ball since it was exactly what I was expecting. There were hints of it being more 2D in playstyle from the first trailer but to I still feel most of it was in the air. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing either and I just chauk it up to the 2D renaissance bug that’s been going around. If this game actually is as good as the coveted Super Metroid then I"m sure most fears will be diminished quickly. Hopefully some impressions and gameplay footage gets put up so we can get more of an idea of what to expect.

Tetris Party Deluxe Preview:

coming to wii and DS. FINALLY…people can stop asking me about Tetris DS at work

nice to see that Club Nintendo is getting some new stuff

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands First Look

so basically the Wii’s game and the 360/ps3 games are 2 seperate entities entirely. So much so that it’s a different story that takes place still within the same time between Sands of Time and Warrior Within but not within the same time as it’s 360/PS3 counterpart.
