So I beat Muramasa on shigurui with both characters. I learned a bunch of new things about the combat, and just figured I’d drop what I know here.
There are two infinites I discovered, excluding some that you can do with stones and secret arts. The easier one can be done on enemies that do not get launched from upward slashes. Works like this:
3 hit ground string, upward slash xx quick dash xx aerial slash, land and repeat.
Some enemies, like bosses, will get out of hit stun at some point but you can still keep hitting them. Most enemies will be trapped infinitely until they die or you screw up. It doesn’t work on enemies that are launched by upward slash, for them you do this:
3 hit ground string, quick dash xx aerial slash, land and repeat.
You can’t cancel the 3rd hit into quick dash, but it links. If you want an easy place to practice these, go to Iga and fight the centipede boss. Incidentally, this boss seems to be the fastest way to max out your level and farm souls and money. I maxed out both level and money within one hour, as well as 200,000 souls.
I learned a cool trick with the down thrust that makes it way more useful. Normally if you make contact with an enemy, you can only cancel it into a roll. However, if you hold left or right after landing, you can cancel into your ground attacks or upward slash. Much safer and higher damage potential. Highly abusable. It also OTGs.
Apparently it’s also possible to “cheat” death, at least in shigurui mode. If you get hit by something, there is a tiny window where, if you hold A, you will “revive” yourself. You see the animation for getting hit, and your HP goes to 0, but then goes back to 1. It’s kind of like a Just Defend. When this happens, you take no guard damage, so your sword can’t break even if the attack is one of those instant guard breaks.
There’s more but these are just some of the last few things I figured out. Hope some of you have fun with that stuff. :bgrin:
