I think people caught on to my shenanigans and stopped playing me after two games or so. I only said that so the less intelligent folk would continue to play me, since people recognized me at the arcades and wouldn’t play me. Sigh. I need to take Andy’s approach to playing and mock people during matches so they’d get angry and play me more…
I didn’t have a PS3 for the longest time, so it’d be no surprise if there aren’t any match vids of me anywhere. Maybe on KoF, but I only played the online bit for maybe a day and then stopped completely since it sucks.
Pete: Haha, man that’s terrible. I just tended to kinda stand there and not say anything during the match, with a handshake afterwards. SNK really dropped the ball on KoF, it could have been sooooooo much more, I understand the characters and backgrounds being hand drawn, but it would have been nice to have something…You know.
Jon: That works, too. I think one of my High School bowling shots is floating around on YouTube somewhere. I guess since you played a bunch of FPS it’d be harder to search for yourself in a game.
I never played any FPS at a tournament calibur. I tend to look down on people who take it that seriously (which isn’t too far removed than people playing FGs competitively) mostly because console kiddies think it’s the new hot shit when PC gamers have been playing FPS since those console kiddies were born. That’s just a little insight to my hate for people who play on XBL.
Naw, I don’t really hate those people, I wouldn’t be playing games if I wasn’t having fun, but when people start getting too serious about it then it tends to turn me off from it. The difference for me in playing FPSs and FGs is I have more fun learning new things in FGs where I don’t find any fun in learning things in FPSs. I mean, you just point and shoot. I loved watching videos of top Counterstrike players because it was an awesome display of reflexes and teamwork. I watch people play Halo and they’re emptying half a clip of their battle rifle or their assault rifles to kill somebody. I don’t see what’s so fun jumping around like you’re on the moon and keeping your finger pulling the trigger competitively. I don’t know where I’m going with this.
Dude, have you ever played Gunz? Shooting people in that game (and trying not to get shot at) is a freaking chore. Exercise for the wrist, that’s what that was!
I recently had a debate with my friend who just plays FPSs about which competitive scene is more legit. That’s why I went off on a spiel like that. He was just mad because I stopped playing Halo with him but he said some really ignorant shit that got me steaming, lol.
EDIT: Yes, I had played Gunz!! I remember when it first came out and there were those people who used shotguns and dashed canceled with their swords or something all over the place. I eventually learned how to do that, too!
I was on there was it was still in beta (iGunz). Every once in a while I’ll come back, but the same douchebag kids who play it are still there, prompting me to quit it time after time.
Sucks for your friend Jon. Are they not in support of fighting games as legit? Because it really is. More than poker, anyway.
What other kind of game can show how much you’re progressing at a 1:1 level? There’s so many advanced tactics and stuff, it’s a wonder how people aren’t seeing it as a legit competitive scene. Sounds like your friend might be kinda ignorant.
He’s a good guy at heart, but being a good guy at heart doesn’t negate ignorance. He turns a blind eye to things that aren’t in his interest A LOT! It’s really hard to hang out with him because I like to have deep, meaningful discussions but if he disagrees he will never hear your point out.
Hahaha, I know a few people who are like that too. We could probably go on a huge rant about why fighting games are legit competitive scenes, but if the one guy we want to hear about isn’t listening, well…
We’ll have to break his legs. There’s no solution to this.
I would admit though, in defense of FPS games, that there’s hardly any teamwork in fighters. Outside of brawl, anyway. Closest thing I can think of is that Guilty Gear Isuka and Tekken Tag Tournament.
I’ll agree that there isn’t much teamwork in fighters, but sometimes that’s what’s beautiful about it. It’s a super pure form of competition, one on one.
In the defense of FPS games, the competition is probably 60% teamwork and 40% individual skill. Teamwork is appealing, but it’s still teamwork to a game that’s nothing exceptional (Halo). I’d rather play COD4 competitively (BECAUSE IT’S A BETTER GAME OH!!!)
Damn, you guys got martial law on that stuff. I’m lucky enough to not have many game playing friends, but on the flip side, those that don’t are often like “Why the hell do you play that stuff?”
