Why were there few fighters (esp Capcom 2d) on nintendo 64?

Bloody Roar PF was the shit.

I’m not asking you to explain your self, just interested in what you were reffering to…

Anyway, I still think Nintendo are one of the bigger inovators out there, it’s not as if this technology is perfect, otherwise everyone would be using it. I mean, look at all the electronic components that are used in these systems, does the technology have to be pulled out of the hat just to be concidered inovative? No. It’s all about how the technology is put together and utilised. I’ve never seen a console use a remote as a controller, I’ve never seen a controller that can be put together in a magnitude of different ways to create different results. The Wii has basically took almost every peripheral we’ve seen for systems and slapped it into one controller, that to me is pretty inovative.

The controller for Nights on the Saturn had analog months before the N64, then there was the arkanoid dial on NES, the sports action trackball for Sega Master system. Yokes for flight games. PC game controllers were all analog up until the mid 90s.

Motherfucking PONG had analog controls so don’t be saying this is all the N64.

And anyway, analog isn’t what we use for fightman games so the point is moot.

Conker’s Bad Fur Day

Cart games are too expensive to produce. I think if Capcom wanted to produce a Street Fighter game on the N64, they could have. But the cost of developing such a game was just too much to make a profit.

In my opinion, the N64 version of the game could have been superior to the PS1 games, depending on how far they wanted to take it (using a big size cart, and adding in extra ram/chips into the cart like they did back in the SNES). By using a big size cart and adding in extra ram/chips, the cost of the game on the N64 would have cost over $100. I don’t think many people would want to drop a $100 for a game.

Because it’s controller sucked and nintendo has never focused fighting games.

Forgot where I read it or where I heard it from, but supposedly N64 had very shitty 2D capabilities.

Not an example, but ook at the N64 port of MKT. It re-used some of the SNES renditions of the MK1/MK2 backgrounds. WTF was up with that?

I figured that witht he oodles of RAM that the N64 had (especially w/Expansion Pak) that it could’ve handled arcade-perfect ports of Capcom/SNK titles at the time like the RAM-equipped Saturn. But Capcom sparsly supported the N64 to begin with, I think the number of Capcom games released on N64 could be counted on two hands. A COMPLETE about-face from the SNES days, when Capcom was nuthugging Nintendo so much that they barely supported the Genesis, yet were all over Saturn and Dreamcast like flies on shit.

Yeah, I suppose Japanese market share (both the Mega Drive and N64 were duds in Japan, moreso the former) and the cart format (which pissed off a lot of big-name third parties which left Nintendo high and dry until the GC era…coughSquaresoftcough) was another reason why N64 was a fighting game no-mans land.

What was that game that was on Super Nintendo?

Oh yea, Street Fighter Alpha 2.

Stop acting like Nintendo never fucked with Capcom sans GC and Wii.

EDIT- I don’t give a damn which system had analog first. I will beat all you bastards and win a major tourney on N64 pad w/ Rumble Pack.

cause wrestling games are like suck, mash buttons all day

Just as Midway did with the 16-Bit ports of UMK3, SNES SFA2 was a last bone thrown at 16-Bit gamers by Capcom, and the port was a disaster even back then. Capcom washed its hands of it; publishing the Saturn & PS1 ports in the U.S but leaving Nintendo to publish the SNES port in the U.S.

After that, Capcom didn’t make another game for Nintendo until around 1998, when they released that shitty Tetris clone w/Mickey Mouse license for N64. Apart from that, they only released the (still impressive) port of “Resident Evil 2” and the forgettable port of “Mega Man Legends”, and that was IT for N64. They definitely came back into the Nintendo fold with the GC and Wii, but I’m just stating the facts, ya dig? :wonder:

Not to mention those lame-ass pastel-color visuals would have been hard to overcome. I mean REALLY: that’s how you KNOW this shit was made with kids and family in mind. Pastel is about as soft and non-threatening a palette as you can find. I look at n64 reviews and all of them say “this game made use of pastel colors”…that’s ALL the system is capable of. EVERYTHING’S pastel, so kids wouldn’t be afraid. Capcom knew what was up when they avoided this thing…plus they were probably still stinging from that whole “every damn one of your games is just a slight upgrade, yet you charge full price” rebuke from Nintendo back in the day…which led to no super turbo on 16-bit consoles.

Joe Asakura, I got ya. Also, GGXXAC is on Wii. And it’s near arcade port, just like PS2. Only difference is if you dont want to use wii mote or classic controller for Gear.

But for the people acting like Nintendo owes them a major fighting game or something, it doesn’t. In all likelihood, that’s not it’s aim, and has never been. Hell, the developers didnt even want Brawl to be competitive. So that shows that Nintendo has more focus on being a system for “party” games, as well as other genres, over fighting.

I can respect Nintendo for targeting a certain population of gamers, sticking to that, and not alienating them as more genres move towards an older and mature crowd. We all agree that the Wii is gimmicky but therein lies some of its charm. No doubt, there is at least one title that everyone will have fun with for Wii. Does this make me want to buy one? No, but at least I can respect the system for what it is.

Omg , how could I forget the best wrestling games of all time? WCW vs NWO World Tour and WCW/NWO Revenge. If you didnt like the original fighters on N64, then you couldnt go wrong with those.

That is more than some systems did for gaming that people don’t go hating on lol. They shoulda dropped that cartridge business like they said they would though and it would have been loads better.

Edit:
Omg I know I just didn’t see shit talk on disney magic tetris… I loved that vs mode toooo mich

All of you that went back 10 years to relive the console wars from 2 generations ago, you all know what you’re getting.

All of you that were spitting off FPSs and greatest hits and everything BUT FGs and technical specs that answered the OP’s question, you also know what you’re getting.
