Why the hate for Dead or Alive?

In it’s own regard you can make it whatever you want it to be. Jello is solid as shit if you’ve never seen granite to compare it to.

You are right here. The game is solid if you play it expecting what you’re gonna get from the system, I think already said that somewhere. You’re right that DOA4 can’t be compared to traditionally because it isn’t supposed to be traditional, but itself can lead the game to it’s own dismay. As long as people enjoy it for what it’s for, that’s cool. Thing is, there are obviously some who won’t like the changes, because DOA3 was a more traditional fighting game, as well as being unique. Also, my main gripe with DOA4 is that it has very little depth, or rather, less depth than the previous game before it. DOA4 sacrifices that and gives you a fast paced game of chess, which is the main reason I like DOA4, but also the same reason why I would like DOA3 more, as you have more moves to make on the board.

Thing is, DOA4 is fun, and you can become addicted to it. But I think if you’re used to games such as Tekken, Vf and DOA3–you won’t like DOA4 too much for being different. It IS all personal preference, but DOA4 is still far from perfect, and I guess I hate the game, in, let’s see, a metaphor for it would be: being dumped. You’d hate a good girl for dumping you even though you like her, because you foresaw and anticipated a good development in your relationship. Same with DOA4, I like the game, but I also hate it for the fact that it could have been so much more…and wasn’t.

Damn I’m sigging that.

DOA3.1 is really got me interested. It actually sounds like a good game. Should I spend the money to get a new xbox and mod it to try it? I can’t really see a point cause when I get my stick done I’m going straight into training as hard as I can at Marvel and 3S, but this game really sounds that good to me.

But I’d probably not get much comp since I’m in NC.

yeah, having safe launchers is stale, this philosophy makes me feel like i achieved something when i actually do a technique, and it being because i schooled you into it

all the good fighters ive enjoyed required me to do all kinds of shit to take a tiny bit of extra damage, making it months before i can start playing competitive mind games when i can get it in a week of playing doa4 and still not master it, cos every milisecond of every movement matters, movement experience is the depth not button presses.

not all fighting games should be taxing. i play games to have fun, why the fuck would you put so much effort into something your not gonna play competitively for money, the only TRUE competitive fighter really is virtua fighter from 4.

competition requires something you put months or years into, doing that to doa will change it completely. doa is about SURVIVING

in real life a good and healthy original ufc fighter with a smart head on his shoulders can hurt an experienced ufc fighter, he’ll get his ass cleaned after, but his movements would be new, requiring the experienced to put his adapting skills into gear. (remember how top tier brizilian jujitsu was? now its the norm)

someone mentioned about standing punches get punished too easy, if you punched a martial artist without thinking what do you think would happen to your arm? this is why sf2 was so good, you’ll get punished if you do something stupid.

caligeant, you dont understand, just like real fighting doa 4 is like a dance, you find the groove and out dance them.

It’s worth the effort, you would like the game, and in turn get others into it too. It depends on if you have money to spend though; and if like, say, 40 other people thought the same thing as you, it’ll all add up and the game CAN be revived. DOA3.1 is easy to get into, but hard to master; it will bring people in, and keep them glued.

Very well said

yes…becuase doa4 is such a hard game to understand:rolleyes:

Lol

I would love to see how much you like this game after playing someone like me or TB.

3.1 is broken as shit. But thats why you like it because its just like every fighting game out there broken and easy to pick up and play just by limiting your move selection and just abusing the best shit instead of actually learning the game.

BTW I didn’t know priority made a game more indepth or not. I thought playing by the FRAMES made the game more indepth because you have to know more.

But I guess thats how people are they just want the easy way out of everything.

Thats why you still don’t know how to play it even now.

i didnt say it was hard? i was trying to put across the point that its easier its more natural, instead of a+b+c = X, its a = X, b = Y, much like virtual fighter but the emphasize is on flashy ready conditioned fights instead of MASSIVE technicality

if virtua fighter takes up too much time and doesnt reward you after all your training you can play doa, doa is more a console game now, i think the problem is people are thinking of it in an arcade sense, dont. this is a game for people playing for free

virtua fighter hasnt been so successful because its an arcade game, its popular in japan cos arcades are at your front door, the reason people play 3s or mvc2 more than virtua fighter is because you can learn dodgy combo’s and techniques in those games, your not very likely to survive as well by just fighting a few local people at virtua fighter, its much more diverse than those games.

basically what im saying is both doa and vf are games that NEED a wide audience

You know the game is just as random as your tier lists.

you’re making no sense

DOA is fun. That’s all that matters.

Yeah… and that’s exactly why he wins mostly every tournament he’s in, or at least in the top 3. :looney:

Kind of off topic, but I just downloaded the DOA: Dead or Alive film…

the chick who plays Christie is hot hot hot.

Believe me I know how to play DOA4, i just don’t have the offline comp to get better yet. And still, it’s funny how you were loving DOA3.1 and bashing DOA4 not too long ago, yet now it’s the opposite.

One of the things I do like about DOA4 is that you can use a wide variety of moves instead of limiting yourself to the best options; but like I said, the game could’ve still taken that concept and been so much more.

As for priority and depth. This was a general statement; you add more to the useable gameplay, you add more depth. Even if it’s a little, it’s still something.

And tbh, I’d love to play against you guys in DOA3.1. I play GG, I don’t weep when I lose half a health bar against, say, ABA, everytime I make a mistake. If the game is broken it then should have been improved upon, not have it depth stripped down to the very basics and achieve balance that way. But hell, as I said, some people like it, and I can put up with it enough to like DOA4. Also, I’m picking up VF soon, so that throws this statement: “But thats why you like it because its just like every fighting game out there broken and easy to pick up and play” out of the window.

For your convience, I bolded all Evo Finals top 8 and Evo East top 3. Evo West had a extremely low number of people, so I left that out. Some other names other then Evo finalists keep showing up over and over again. Looks pretty consistant to me.

Now, look at all the recent results, and look at the Evo East and Evo Finals results. Look familiar? (For the record, the only ones here shown with Mamba, PL, Master, etc… are the only ones they were at in the first place.) These people have been in top 3 of every legit tournament they have been in. Random? Inconsistant? Why the hell is it the same names keep popping up over and over again!!! Even in locals - when comparing you see the exact same names on top every single time. The only ones where you see different names in the top 3 are locals or small tournaments that better players didn’t travel to. The Evo 2006 names keep showing up in every single tournament. This really doesn’t look like an indication of a “random” game.

Just because the game is random, doesn’t mean it won’t have it’s consistent top players. Really now =/

WTF?!?!?!?!?

That doesn’t even make any sense!

The game is random, yet the game has consistant top players place in tournaments?

Isn’t that quite the oxymoron? The evidence of consistant placings flat out destroys any argument of the game being “random”.

-LMAO. Wow, the things people will say just to bash doa, wow. You hit the nail right on the head Xdest.

-BTW, there is priority in doa:

High attacks > Mid attacks
Mid Attacks > Low Attacks
Low Attacks > High Attacks
-With the exception of special crush moves.

-Wall Tech is in doa4, you need to press 8:F or :2:F

-Im curious to know why someone would complain about how fast Doa is, on a site dedicated to 2d capcom fighters, that have move execution faster than any 3d fighter on the planet.

How are invitational tournaments majors?? I mean you have people who don’t even know how to play getting into the tourney.

it does to a point, if you have the same people playing in 12 man tournies where a good chunk of the other entrants don’t know how to play, they’ll place consistently. Also the invitationals have the same players everytime so of course at least someone is gonna place top 3.

You really don’t get it do you? Please take the time to think about it. if not, I’ll tell you.

I was just posting ANY recent tournament results. It didn’t matter if they were majors or locals, I put them all up to prove a point.

And it proves it quite well.

You can’t have it both ways buddy. A game is not inconsistant when you get consistant placing. That goes against NATURAL LOGIC.

(As well, I did NOT post CGI, because those are events, not tournaments.), the JMC and Check6 Invitationals are real tournaments, and players that placed high in DiD/DoW respectively got in. As well, the tournament called “NY Invitational”, was not an invitational at all, but a real open touranment.

These are all tournaments, and you can’t deny consistancy in these placements. The facts are all there.
