What if it’s a Tyler Perry movie?
A Tyler Perry movie based on Twilight starring the Kardashians.
Would be entertained.
That insinuation is why I do it.
…In jest, and routinely ;).
I was better than average, but not fast enough to score at varsity invites at 1A level (cept 4x800m sometimes). My best 1600m was 4:46 and I never went under 2:00 in 800m.
But hey man, it’s about effort. I dunno why ppl keep bringing up genetics. Only very small fraction of top athletes attribute their success to genetics.

Of course they don’t.
Why would they?
Most people are extremely egocentric.
The overwhemling majority are so.
It is not in their vested interest to attribute their “personal” success to the genetic lotto.
What I rather meant to say was “only a very small fraction of top athletes’ success are attributed to genetics.”
Regardless, a lot of the assumptions I see here indicate that too many of you just want instant gratifications.

Not at all.
What I am saying, is that any excellence a person attains to, is a potentiality within his or her genetic recombinate.
If the potential is not there, no amount of training will allow them to achieve a professional level.
If the potential IS there, then the major factor in whether they attain to it, is the placement and position on Earth into which they were born.
Nurture and personal drive factor in next, but we then come full circle back to genetics.
I qualify position as precisely distinct from nurture, given all of the myriad factors beyond how one is raised by one’s parents/guardians.
Not only the mores, but the advancement and affluence of the society into which they are born, much less the particular precise spot into which a particular person is born, factor heavily into such things.
Nerds will never be cool. There is a reason you dudes are virgins. Get over it.
Poor bastards.
What is the term for intellectuals who work out as much as you and okra?
I dunno why OP.
I wonder how much a top bmx rider makes? I wonder how much a professional pool player makes? Does a top bowler make a lot of money? How about a top dart player? Ya’ll talkin’ like the only sports there are is football (american style) and basketball.
There is only one kind of football.
And it is spelled “futball”.
Or “hockey”, if Canukistani.
upon further reflection, the real reason that entertainers/athletes can make so much money isn’t necessarily that society’s values are screwed up (i’m trying to remain optimistic about humanity here…) its because of technology.
consider, prior to the invention of the cassette tape, each town would have their own bard that provided entertainment. they didn’t get paid an exorbitant amount of money by any means. but by being able to record music, it created a paradigm shifting “write once sell multiple times”. yeah i just used the word paradigm in a sentence. i enjoy intellectual masturbation. deal with it. once musicians could perform a song once and have it sold everywhere in the world, it enabled an industry where the top 1% make out with all the loot. which is why they’re paid so much. but it ignores the fact that most “musicians” work at starbucks. prior to this, because people had no other options available to them, they would have to listen to the local musicians. but with so many options available today such as internets, radio, CDs, cassette tapes, etc etc, most local musicians are out of work.
this is the same deal with celebrities. technology allows a select few to be very famous to how easy it is to distribute their work globally. technology like the VHS was very scalable. and this is before the internets was invented. so that’s why celebrities can get paid so much, because those select few elites have the attention of billions of people worldwide. but only because of technology. it ignores the fact that most “actors” in LA are waitresses. or that a lot of the female “models” aspiring to be actors get disillusioned and become escorts instead. but i digress. prior to this, the only option available to people for dramatic entertainment in the middle ages was the local theater. actors didn’t get paid as much, but they could find work because they didn’t have to compete with youtube, DVDs, bluray, and so on.
currently in ivy league schools, they are moving their lectures online. with college being ridiculously overpriced, i can see technology enabling a situation where top end lecturers at ivy leagues can stream their content to millions of eager young nerds ready to learn (china, india, and other asian countries where people like bill gates, not kim, are idolized). in such a situation, a teach could easily make the salary of an athlete. however, again, the bottom tier teachers would still be making piss poor salary.
TLDR: TECHNOLOGY IS TO BLAME FOR CELEBRITIES HIGH SALARIES
Democracy is to blame. Technology is our ability to influence our world; democracy is how many people have access to it.
If the King hadn’t let that shit out of the bag, the 1% could have never existed.
Of course, then we would have a king.
Well no, we’ve had a mercentile 1% for centuries… remember Crassus? (maybe you don’t :p) We’ve had an aristocracy even longer.
Every single system has had a political/wealth upper class.
You, sir, are a cunt.
That… was… awesome.
I didn’t want to post anything else because it ruins it, but credit where credit is due. I stand utterly defeated
I’m gonna play the games I play, watch the streams I watch and not give a fuck about who gets paid what.
That’s because those sports solely depend on the purse at tournaments/competitions. As someone that knows about alternative “action” sports, and have been in the industry for snowboarding, the money isn’t really there. Maybe a couple or if lucky, a hand full makes as much as a starting player for the NFL, like Shaun White, Jamie Bestwick, and some skateboarders/mtb’rs/skiers. But even in bmx, there are contest riders, and video/magazine riders. While a pro rider gets lucky and gets a purse of 5 grand, maybe at the x games a lot more, that doesn’t happen consistently. And when you average it out, it may get the pro bmx contest rider a house, a car and the basics of living, unless you are a few that markets/whore’s his name on every Target commercial, cellular phone ad, etc etc.
As for all the other riders that don’t do every big contest, they barely get by with sponsorship. BMX is and won’t ever be as big as the NHL, NFL, what ever that soccer league is. Snowboarding is a notch up, but I knew some pros that have to struggle with making ends meet and they were nominated for what ever video part that came out that year and was in the lime light.
What I learned from the snowboard and bmx industry is that you have to be in love with what you do and not do it for money or fame but a chance to take advantage of all the other perks like traveling, meeting people, and having moments you would never get from a 9 to 5.
