ITT: Lots of self-loathing nerds who probably wish they were Daigo.
i hate daigo
i was rooting for justin wong during 2008 sf4 finals when he bust out balrog vs ryu
but majority of the otaku anime gamer faggots there were rooting for daigo cause they were so busy jerking off to chun li hentai tentacle rape
Hilariously, there were 2 non-quote mentions of Daigo before you mentioned him.
I think the assumption that being 5’9" makes me unfit for the NBA is a bit more reasonable than assuming that reasoning is just my cop out to not practice for the NBA.
I understand your point but wouldn’t you agree athletics tend to favor innate ability more than competitive video games?
Games between Daigo and the old-school competitors–Choi, Valle, Cole, etc.–are incredible.
What saddens me is that the only one of those names a lot of the kiddies today remember is Daigo.
You’re saying people don’t remember Valle?
Diago, like it or not, is more notable. He’s both international and has won many more events than any of those other guys. Jwong and Daigo are the standout stars, and for a reason.
I’m sure most people are aware of Valle, given his activities in the community, but I don’t know if people who were late to the party fully understand how incendiary he was in the Alpha days back when he was some young dude in a wife beater. Him vs. Choi was like Ken vs. Ryu.
It’s been many many many years since the alpha days though.
In a way I like it though, except as a historical note (or people that are currently contributing) I think it should be about the people that are doing well right now. We should highlight the current talent, not worry about people who’s stars have faded. Keep the scene moving forward.
I’d rather hang out with Valle than Daigo anyday.
Dude can party and isn’t afraid to let you crash on his couch.
No he isn’t.
He is simply more hyped these days.
But he is hardly more notable than Alex Valle - king of B3.
Anyone who knows anything about the history of the scene, knows Valle.
^^^^^
This is really, really fucking stupid, this post.
he’s only more notable in that he’s japanese and otakus will jerk off to him
Except he’s won fewer tournaments. Being an organizer and helper is great, but that’s what it’s all about. Diago is both one of the top winning players and is part of one of the 2 really remembered events in scene history (being the parry, the other really notable player, Jwong, was in that event AND in the other famous moment, being the cyclops comeback).
Listen, I don’t want to underestimate what Valle’s done for people, but it’s like you’re saying Nate McMillan should be more notable than Shaquille O’Neal, if Shaq were still playing in tournament final teams.
Funny.
I think the Sagat CC was more notable than a “practiced until it was rote muscle memory” comeback in a round that was clearly lost, but for O. Justin not being O. Justin.
Actually that entire set with Choi was way more notable, for Valle busting out his patented CC trick, and Choi adapting on the fly to it.
Daigo has a third notable moment, actually, and maybe the single most important moment in the history of the scene. Can anyone guess what it is?
(Hint: it’s a moment he shares with Valle.)
But what’s more remembered?
‘Shouldas’ are great and all, but I’d rather deal with reality. The reality is that people remember the parry whether it should be more significant or not. That makes it more notable.
We’re supposed to be all about Valle, but I don’t care for fanboying-- any fanboying… or backlash for that matter.
Diago and Jwong are the player faces of the community, whether anybody personally thinks they should be or not. Might as well get used to it.
Edit: As an example, the Spy Party guy did a blog post about showing his game at Evo and competition. Guess what video he linked?
You know who doesn’t remember Valle’s B3 victory?
Nobody.
Anyone know if Kuni still plays anything?
Love that guys Zangief.
His matches when Japan first came to the US or in the Alpha era in the match Valle says he would’ve retired after if he won?
You know what? Fuck Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, etc. It’s all about… whomever the fuck plays baseball now.
(This is the extent of my sports knowledge.)
