That’s like saying aids is better than cancer.
wtf is a smash?
Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl. Don’t get me wrong; I like it, but it can get too random sometimes.
I was being sarcastic. It’s like saying “What’s a mortal kombat?”
Just turn off the items and the randomness is gone (except for some things like Judgement Hammer)
i play fighting games because:
- i like having a variety of characters to choose from
- they’re quick and easy to play. extremely easy to start a game, get in and out
- i admire superb mind-games, strategies, and in-depth game engines
- i enjoy competing against human players and watching good match videos
- last but not least, sky’s the limit with most competitive fighters as there’s always ways to improve and work on your game.
This thread’s already been done many times before.
Hell, I started this thread once. Too lazy to look for it, though.
Toe-to-Toe, Head-to-Head competition. As stated before, fighting games are as close to a controlled competitive gaming environment as you can get. I enjoy besting or being bested by friends sitting next to me on the couch, floor, table, cabinet, whatever (the whole atmosphere). I used to play a lot of PC FPS/RTS games, and while they were fun… you never see the look on the other guys face when you hand their ass to them.
its fun
I’d rep you if I could. Thank you for posting that.
merge the threads?
Turn on only koopa shells. There, problem solved.
Its the new Chess/Checkers for todays world.
only alot faster.
Nothing rings truer than this for me. Back when when SF2 came out, I remember being bummed out when a crowd surrounded an arcade machine. I just wanted a way to enjoy watching my quarters get stolen from me, not be a center piece of attention. I always capitalized the moments when I could play through the game by myself; I enjoyed the game like some one digs Pac-Man and Galaga. But it wasn’t until one day when a stranger came to me and asked to play me. I declined and the stranger then called me a number of insulting names, loud enough for his friends to hear and laugh. It was that moment of anguish that I decided to show that punk who was boss.
I slapped a quarter in the machine for him to use and I began my first match with a human player. I picked Ryu and he Guile and the battle ensued. He handed me my own ass as he widdled my nonexistent defenses away with ease. I lost my pride, but I had found a new joy.
Ever since that moment, 15 or so years ago, I have never been as elated as when I am playing against someone in a fighting game. Single-player campaigns present themselves as waste of money and time for me. Other multiplayer games don’t do it for meeither - the rush of an audience watching you and thetest of skill is unmatched in fighting games.
A friend of mine asked me a while back “why do you Ryu?” I didn’t have an answer then, but I suppose this thread rekindled a small light in a cob-webbed sector of my mind. If I had premium, I’d rep Mixa just for bringing me back to my past; it is good to ask ourselves once in awhile why we are what we are.
Iapetus (Wiiing it up on SRK)
Longevity.
Because of the easy to pick up, hard to master formula.
Cept for VF, of course. >_>
Iapetus speaks the truth. if i could i’d rep you for that post
Competition and replay-ability make these games so much fun. As far as entertainment goes, there aren’t many things that are as engaging as winning that “close match” against a friend, or stranger.
Fighting games = best genre of game there is
Competetion, if fighting games were single player only, the genre would have died along time ago.
Cause the other games are for females.
