if i had to add anything, it would definitely be the allure of beating someone one-on-one.
There’s a certain amount of satisfaction in beating someone else’s best.
one-on-one, fast, technical, mind-games.
probably cuz im so competitive.
I dont see a point playing single player games and getting good at them when you cant play anyone.
or no one plays it competitively
God I sound like an anime, but that’s the gist of it. I don’t care if I win or lose, it’s the fight itself. The more I’m outmatched, the better, especially people who claim to be high level. One of my favorite things is figuring out my opponents style and using it against him, so even if the guy runs a streak on me, if I’ve fucked up his gameplan so badly you can tell he’s pulling everything he has to beat me every time, I cackle like a lunatic.
I can’t be the only one who enjoys the moment that you completely shatter some elaborate combo or trap that your opponent spent hours practicing by exploiting the holes in it.
EDIT- Compared to other types of games, fighting games have the most controlled environment. Very little randomness.
In Madden, I can make the completely correct play call, and run the play flawlessly… there’s always a chance my receiver will just drop the pass, or randomly fumble. The game will just fuck me up without me even making a mistake.
The pure mental battle, without the random bullshit is what makes fighting games fun.
Because I enjoy playing as a character that can do moves that cannot be done in real life. It’s a way to escape reality and perform harm without really injuring people.
