Why play fighting games?

i couldnt agree more

if i had to add anything, it would definitely be the allure of beating someone one-on-one.
There’s a certain amount of satisfaction in beating someone else’s best.
one-on-one, fast, technical, mind-games.

it just works :lovin:

My favorite genres are RPGs and Fighters.

To get into an RPG, I gotta sit down and have some time ahead of me.

To get into a fighting game, I just need a couple of minutes to play some quick matches.

So I guess it’s the easily accessable and pick-up-and-play thing about them.

I couldn’t get into FPS and I got bored of MMOs so fighters took that place.

I like to punch people

The answers in this thread made me very happy. <3

I repped whoever I could in this thread.

To get chicks.

I used to play RPG’s but I got tired of pressing X. Also the community is weird, fanboys creep me out.

I like fighters for the precision aspect. They involve much more than button mashing and getting better at it is what drives me.

probably cuz im so competitive.
I dont see a point playing single player games and getting good at them when you cant play anyone.
or no one plays it competitively

The challenge. The Rush. The Battle.

God I sound like an anime, but that’s the gist of it. I don’t care if I win or lose, it’s the fight itself. The more I’m outmatched, the better, especially people who claim to be high level. One of my favorite things is figuring out my opponents style and using it against him, so even if the guy runs a streak on me, if I’ve fucked up his gameplan so badly you can tell he’s pulling everything he has to beat me every time, I cackle like a lunatic.

I can’t be the only one who enjoys the moment that you completely shatter some elaborate combo or trap that your opponent spent hours practicing by exploiting the holes in it.

The mental battle.

Outsmarting the opponent. That’s it.

EDIT- Compared to other types of games, fighting games have the most controlled environment. Very little randomness.

In Madden, I can make the completely correct play call, and run the play flawlessly… there’s always a chance my receiver will just drop the pass, or randomly fumble. The game will just fuck me up without me even making a mistake.

The pure mental battle, without the random bullshit is what makes fighting games fun.

Because beasting is fun!

You don’t play Marvel, do you? hahahahaha

Well, Marvel isn’t as random as Smash (assuming you have items and stuff turned on).

this is post is so funny, i must rep

I enjoy the competition and battle of it all.

Some people like getting their ass kicked/raped in an arcade instead of getting their ass kicked/raped in the back alley of an arcade.

I enjoy the anticipation of new versions of each series of fighting games I play…

cuz i feel the need, to beast

cuz I like them.

Quoted for the truth

Because I enjoy playing as a character that can do moves that cannot be done in real life. It’s a way to escape reality and perform harm without really injuring people.
