Why people should support Skullgirls (even if they don't quite like it..)

If all it takes is reading one thread in a forum to make you not want to play a game. I’m sorry but I don’t think you’re a gamer, a fighting game player and I would hardly consider you a healthy person.

If SG isn’t your cup o’ tea, that’s fine, don’t buy it. If you’re a serious competitive player, the demo will be available next week so give it a try. If you like supporting stuff, by all means do it, it happens, I have friends who aren’t even FG players but will buy it cuz they like to support creative developers. And if any amount of the smart stuff that was put in this game bleeds over to other companies’ games, our scene will benefit greatly.

And for the people who is turned off by the female only cast, I hope to see you around when the male characters are released in the future so your friends won’t bully you anymore.

The difference is that 3rd Strike had the words “Street Fighter” in front of it. People are more willing to accept stuff like that in a franchise they are already loyal to. This is a brand new IP.

If you were around when SFIII was first released, Capcom took a big backlash for only having new designs, the original plan not even included Ryu and Ken. Lots of people refused to play it. It took around 5 to 7 years for people to support that game a little more, and by that time it didn’t mattered to Capcom anymore as it didn’t had good sales. With each revision of SFIII Capcom tried to calm people by adding some of the most popular chars (2I Akuma, 3S Chun Li).

But in the end, 3S technical side overcame all of that, who thought people would be asking for the return of Makoto, Dudley, Ibuki, Elena, Hugo etc. back in 1997-99. In the end people, when you’re playing in tournaments/competing, you’re seeing hitboxes, watching meters, spacing and yelling your character’s moves in your heart.

This game is ugly, but I’ll give it a shot @ $15.

Im getting this game cause it looks good and the gameplay looks good. I’m not digging the all girl cast tho, but I’ve spent my money on dumber things coughSFxTcoughso I’m willing to give it a shot.

sheeeittt, its only $15 anyways. If your employed it really shouldn’t be a problem.

but if you’re not interested, thats ok too.

like SFxT & MvC3? Lets be honest here, people really only play Capcom games by default. Every other game by has to be defended or praised on SRK for it to be recognized.

Man I really want to blast people for not giving this game a chance based on how it looks. But then I realize I’d be a hypocrite, considering how I feel about Mortal Kombat. So I bite my tongue.

Not really. Like there’s people that will come into the UMvC3 tournament thread and bash UMvC3 when it’s on and fap to KOF whenever the name is even mentioned. Never seen anyone ever do that for UMvC3 in another board.

And no not every other game besides Capcom games are bad. I think Soulcalibur 5 is the best fighting game out right now and SFxT is the worst one. Doesn’t matter who made the game, if it’s good, people will play it.

Skullgirls is only like 15$ so whatever I’ll try it.

Personally I think it looks kinda cool for a fighting game. And who knows how good the level of play could evolve from people in the FGC playing it and making it competitive

You really can’t have been around long if you honestly believe this.

I’m interested to see how Big Band plays. Panzerfaust is probably going to be either a Tager or a Nemesis, neither of which are gameplay styles I particularly care for.

Well, the more i see of the artstyle the more it grows on me. I would not say i love it, but its not as horrible as i thought it was after seeing it for the first few times. Thats something, i guess. I like the attention to detail, i just don’t like some of the character designs ( Peacock, Cerebella), and thats not good for such a tiny roster.

Plus, i am european. I fear that not many people over here will buy this game. Thats not that great considering i only play online

People different than me are the worst
Shining example of the greatness of the SRK community right there :coffee:

I’ve heard reports of Euro players hanging with the American crowd without any serious issues on Skullgirls GGPO so even if you are the only player in Europe you should be fine.

And you better not be the only player in Europe, there’s a tournament being hosted in France and it would be awfully silly if no one came. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wait, normal? Darkstalkers are normal fighters?

Ms Fortune is pretty much Felicia and Jedah fused.

Ugh… I don’t even want imagine Mike Z having to fight with the Japanese bosses just so he can make a good game. He’ll probably have to make far fewer concessions working at Reverge or right here in America.

I was under the impression that Momo only knows Felicia from Marvel.

Yeah I can’t understand how one can dislike the weirdness in Skullgirls while liking Darkstalkers characters, DS is like the original weird for the sake of weird fighting game

That just comes with the number of players. If KOF had as many players as UMvC3 it would get just as much hate. The hate and popularity come hand-in-hand. I do think SC5 is a really good game tho. KOF13 & SC5 are the only games I’ve been playing for a while.

Out of everything in that post, that’s what you picked out of it. Really? I didn’t even say anything about Darkstalkers. I said at a first glance she seems like Felicia because of the cat girl thing. Then I see that she takes her own body apart and that turned me off completely from her.

Wow.

So I guess you don’t like Jedah’s design either, right?

Just out of curiosity.

As far as Skullgirls goes, I’m not a fan of the character designs, but I do want the game to succeed. It’s a step in the right direction and I hope other companies take notes so they can realize what fighting games really need.

If only that were true. How well a fighting game succeeds (sales-wise, anyway) is more or less a popularity contest. I can think of countless solid fighting games that went down the toilet because they either weren’t popular or didn’t include enough casual-pleasing content. Games like Marvel, SFxT, and SC can sell copies based on name and company reputation alone. KOF is different because (at least in America) it’s always been seen as SF’s little brother. KOFXIII is a solid game, but it has a much steeper hill to climb because SNK’s name doesn’t hold as much water in the states.
