Why people should support Skullgirls (even if they don't quite like it..)

Companies are only convinced something matters when it leads to more sales.

If Skullgirls does well, other devs will look at Skullgirls: GGPO, tutorials, no comeback mechanic, no ridiculous amounts of leniency on inputs, good button config, hitbox display, good movement speed, developers communicating on the forums and taking feedback, not withholding information about what is or isn’t in the game, etc.

They may try to emulate this if we convey this is what we want from our games and the next games will be better for it.

…yeah but what do you say to someone (like me for example  ) who thinks that the game looks like a more nonsensical version of a versus game? I have no interest in playing a versus game. Everything you listed in that post is positive but doesn’t it ignore the way the game actually plays?

True. It’s your decision to buy it or not, if it’s not your type of game, I can’t force you to enjoy it.

There’s a demo to try it out (containing training mode) if you have the slightest curiosity and I’m not sure why people think otherwise but** the demo will be available on both consoles.**

I hate everything about the way the game looks sofar. I don’t enjoy the characters at all. I think I really woulda been hype for the game if we could have just had some normal characters in it.

Its like he took advice for everything else but the character design.

well, i got a PSN 20 dollar card to get this game…hope it’s worth it. Just wish the titties weren’t SO cartoony looking…lol…

I can’t wait for the game to come out so I never have a reason to go in that thread again.

So…someone from the scene could make a reaalllyyy shitty game. But we should support it anyways because he’s a known player in the community?
That doesn’t really make sense.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m going to buy Skull Girls day 1. But it’s because I’m generally interested in the game. I could give fuck less about Mike Z being involved.
I wouldn’t buy a version of Monopoly if Tri-Force helped make the new Pewter Tokens or whatever. I’m sure you know what I mean.

Just because known people in the scene are involved doesn’t mean it will make a game better or lead that person or game to better things. Look at Super Turbo HDR.

Yeah…the Skullgirls area is basically unapproachable because of this shit. I can’t stand it.

Also this.

I wasn’t going to buy it because I thought I was going to be playing SFxTK.

I was wrong…
See yall online

I’ll have to agree with this, some of the people who are “promoting” the game are actually doing it a disservice by being so loud and unsubtle about it. I don’t want to see completely off-topic SG promotion in discussions that have nothing to do with it, but it happens… a lot… and it’s giving people a negative image of the game before they even think of trying it out.

Honestly I’m sure we’ve all spent money on worse things than dropping 14.99 on a game that’s for the FGC by the FGC. I’ve never seen a game where the developers implement suggestions from the community on literally a daily basis.

What’s more, it is a really really good game.

I would have supported Skullgirls if it wasn’t Skullgirls.

Just buy it if the game interest you really, if you like Marvel/Guilty Gear mechanics at all, the game should appeal to you.

Otherwise I don’t agree that people should only buy it to buy it, unless they really do want to support Mike Z and Reverge.

that being said
i like what i have seen on sg, looks like a good game, also i like the art style

This game looks fantastic and I’m getting it day 1 however the notion of “supporting” doesn’t sit well with me. I’m not gonna buy something I don’t want. It really is that simple.

Even without ponies it’s a mess. The Skullgirls general discussion thread is a disaster, anyone popping in there to see what the game is about will probably just run the other way after reading a page or two and never look back. This is exactly the kind of stuff that plagues the Blazblue community on dustloop and will most likely haunt skullgirls as well because people don’t understand how to hide their powerlevel on a community forum that isn’t 4chan/reddit/some shitty anime forum where acting like that is the norm

Coming soon for DLC

The BUY MY GAME BUY MY GAME BUY MY GAME thing is exactly why I don’t want anything to do with KOF 13. If your game is good people will play it by default.

I really wish Skullgirls had normal looking characters. That is my only gripe with the game so far. “Oh this character is kinda cool. She reminds me of Felicia. She takes her body parts off and bleeds all over the place? Oh…” I haven’t even looked at any of the Skullgirls threads so I don’t know what the community is like.

You say “good” but I think you mean “has Ryu in it”.

The character design is a legitimate complaint. I happen to like the weirdness but it never surprises me when I find others don’t.

People didn’t like the character design choices in 3rd Strike and that was a SF game so if 3S could get over that and be a big game in the US…this game shouldn’t have too much trouble in the long run either.

IN THE END…all that really matters just like any game…is how many Joe Shmoes buy. The more Joe Shmoes that buy the more money. If you know a Joe Shmoe…talk to that guy about the 15 dollar fighter with all the movie references.

It’s always going to be that balance of making the game smart but catering well enough to who’s going to put the money in the wallets. If Joe Shmoe don’t buy…that’s less overall that can go into what can be done for the FGC.

It’s a bunch of ex Super Skrull players.
