Why people should support Skullgirls (even if they don't quite like it..)

Yo I loved me some 3D Ballz back in the day.

Ha Ha! Spheroid.

I found the non inclusion of the movelists weird, I mean if it was a physical product then yeah you have manual but its a digital product and seeing how much effort was put into the tutorials it kinda looks bad not to include a move list. I mean if the game wanted to teach new players about fighting games isn’t it logical to have a movelist included? Eitherway I bought the game and I made my bro play the tutorial, 15 dollars to teach my bro what I haven’t been able to in 2 years lol. Completely worth it at this point, but is there like a dlc plan for how much the game with the extra characters will cost? I mean there are multiple fighting games where its 5 dollars for just one character, how are they going to be priced for SG?

No word on that yet. Mike’s personal opinion is that five dollars is too much for one character but he really has no control over the pricing. It’s whatever Konami thinks we will be willing to pay.

I always thought that five bucks was fair for as much mileage as you get out of buying a character but that really is just me. It looks bad in comparison with the pricing of the full game but if you look at it that way then a Skullgirls character is worth less than a Rock Band song and that is just silly. Think of the reduced price for the characters in the game as a bundle discount.

So why the euphemism? Why “support” instead of “buy”? The thread title is presumptuous and a little condescending. I’ll buy it if I like it, thanks. I like the idea of a grassroots game taking hold but I don’t think that kind of aggressive evangelism is going to win people over.

Because people aren’t always as good at communicating as they might wish.

Me: Hey, me.

Video Me: What up?

Me: Still educating the good people on why picking up Skullgirls is a great choice?

Video Me: Yep. But I’m running short on Magnums and Grape Drank though.

Me: I’ll make sure to make another store run later on. Keep fighting the good fight.

Video Me: I wouldn’t be you if I did otherwise.

Wow this game is pretty good. Glad i decided to give it a try even though the graphics are not my kind of thing.

You see, even though I love this game to death, I was disappointed with these missing features. But unlike other companies, giving straight answers and most importantly, saying these things before the game was released - people who have been following the SG boards have known this for a while - and also promising to patch them in later is something not only I can respect, but it also makes me overlook the lack of certain features.

Transparency is the luxury of the indie developer. Companies like Capcom have to be hush hush about details because they have huge departments disconnected from the actual development who makes their decisions for them. When you’re part of a smaller, indie group it becomes much more like poking over into an adjacent cubicle and going “Hey, what are we doing about [insert thing in question]? Oh yeah?” then responding to a posted question.

I see this all the time at my job – I work for a billion dollar natural gas company, and sometimes getting an answer to a simple question takes forever because it has to make its way up the food chain and back down – and some of those higher ups have a lot more important things to do than to sit around answering questions from below them (like answering questions from above them.)

Say what you will about larger companies, but the issues we have to deal with from them tend to not come from the folks who are actually making the games for us – because a lot of them are just like Mike Z – actual gamers who do it because they love gaming and their fans, I imagine they get forced to do a lot of things that don’t sit well with them because of all of the overhead they have.

Now if only more people would do this with more games, instead of going “Oh, that’s a stupid anime game.”

I second all of Tripple DA God’s Motions. Real Talk my Dude this game is Great just finished all stories in story mode doing trials now(backwards I know) and to all you suckaz takin bout hit boxes so what I only seen it in the trail mode. That video is hard body tho (no Rainbow)

So only the trial mode has the characters turn into green hit boxes every other second. Even while just walking forward and shit?

This trial is not gonna convince too many people to purchase this game imo. Me included.

Does support = buy? …something you dont like? Why would anyone do that?

If you like it, then buy it!

If not, then better luck to them next time and go back to supporting things you actually enjoy.

Your main complaint seems to be the sound. Why not just turn it off?

No I purchased the game and it still happens in every mode.

That specific thing stood out for complaint because it was a real ‘nails on chalkboard’ thing. I had a pretty clear idea of what my expectations would be for the game, and along those lines I wasn’t really gonna comment too much on them, but that was a total ‘Good God that’s awful!’ moment.

complaining about the sound is one thing, but it in no way determines whether or not I’ll continue to play the game.

Didn’t happen to me even once until now (Playing on PS3)

Happened to me once, never happened again to my knowledge. Maybe a bug?

Well, that’s good. Who are you using?

$5/char works for me. Pound for pound, it’s certainly a better deal than Konami gave folks for Hard Corps: Uprising characters.

The hitbox thing seems to be an on and off bug. When I was playing, I never suffered it, but other people seem to be getting it constantly. I’d imagine they know exactly what’s causing that though, and it’ll be in the patch.

~~

Honestly I’m not. All the other stuff aside, I wanted to give it a real try and a fair shake, but the base playstyle of the game isn’t for me, and there turned out to be nothing in it to draw me in over that basic difference.

It’s kind of in the place in my head that MvC3 is. Not really for me to play much, but very very fun and interesting to follow/theorize/speculate about.

*I’ve specifically tried to not talk about that though, it’s kind of pointless and could just lead to fights (trying at least a bit to rehabilitate my image :p)

Edit: $5 a character honestly feels right to me too, although I can hear the bitching already, ‘the game itself only costs 3x that much!’ I’m betting if they can manage it, they want to go ~$2 a character, that’d make them cost in line with the first 8 (not counting the engine and stuff, of course but its’ an image thing)
