That’s the idea. I think that as the game progresses and people figure it out 1-character teams are going to fade out. Solobella is going to be real scary at the beginning but once people know how to deal with her she’s going to be completely fucked over by Peacock+Two Assists. She’ll need some assists of her own to help her get in.
Wether that turns out to be the case if left to bee seen. I’m going solo to learn the game fundamentals which i think is the core of single team. In fact i thought someone mention how the state boost is good for fundamental aspect while , teams is more for versatility in option. something on that lines.
…it plays like marvel 2 more than those games
It plays like Skullgirls.
It’s still got that “anime” feel to the gameplay with the air dashes and quick action. I love it but if you aren’t into that kind of game then you probably are not going to like Skullgirls.
Well… this makes me rethink if I should even buy it
The demo’s free. Might as well get that and see if you’re really that turned off by the gameplay.
Unless its on a straight 3:2:1 ratio (and that’s pretty doubtful), teams are about guaranteed to be better, and that’s not counting assists.
A 3 team over a single…
gets 2 different assists, over 0
almost certainly still has higher total life
gets 2 free combo breaker if damage ends up being super high and TOD’s are common. (I just had a horrible fear; its marvel style, not Tekken Tag style right? If its Tekken style that helps teams of 1 some)
has a much wider variety of moves and styles for those bad matchups (especially out of the beginning roster).
Bottom line this game deserves to be on any FG fans radar. Ultimately it will be the player’s choice as to whether or not they would like to support it. However, buying Skullgirls and encouraging this game will only benefit the FG community. Just doing so will show your support for strong mechanics, easy navigation, intuitive features, and a myriad of things the FG community has been pining for and many devs seem to outright ignore.
Many people must also realize that this game was completed with a very small dev team who has made every effort to listen to the community. Purchasing this game and ignoring games like SFxT will make a bold statement about what we want to see in future fighters.
Aesthetics are important to a lot of gamers but I’ve played a many pretty looking games with poor gameplay. Nobody should fully base all their reservations on whether or not they like the art style or that the game features an all girl cast. In just doing so you end up depriving yourself of a great experience.
It’s a game that when you combine everything together plus the plenty of features that ARENT in other fighters, it then becomes it’s own game. Only like one other game outside of Marvel has done the 3on3 + assist game. Even then no game lets you CHOOSE how many people you want and CHOOSE your own assists.
If you’re just pressing buttons in a demo and not actually playing and understanding the game…then yeah I understand how you feel.
It’s the same reason why you don’t change up chess or football a whole bunch. If you just change the right things it makes it very different without changing what fundamentally makes fighting games.
I know you’re talking about actual game engine stuff but just the care that went into the training mode alone deserves the purchase. I’ll be able to explain fighting games to all my friends so much better because of that training mode.
Well really the demo had better appeal to you on its own, without a bunch of prior knowledge and ideas.
If somebody plays the demo and goes “I’d pay 15$ for 6 more characters!” then it’ll be a success, people that already know a ton about the game have pretty much already made up their minds, demo or no.
edit:
The lack of button feedback I suspect will be kind of crippling to training mode, especially for new players without a guide.
You need that feedback to avoid the mortally frustrating ‘WHY ISN’T THIS WORKING!?!’ moments.
Although seriously, some of the Tekkens set a super high line with that, that nobody else has ever done (and conveniently combines 2 things that people are bitching about missing with Skullgirls): Movelists with audio and visual feedback for input timing (and replays of what the moves actually did). Those bleeps and bloops made a huge goddamn deal, and its something that all fighting games should have adopted, but none really did.
Mike already flat out said he tuned it and he hopes all sizes are viable but time will tell.
Presuming you mean the ratios right? ><
It’s just almost impossible, it could literally be ‘divide health and damage by the number of characters (which I presume he didn’t do)’, and it would still favor the largest possible number of people on your team.
Which again, is cool. Whether ratios are tournament viable or not should have absolutely no influence on whether the game is worth purchasing.
Still, its an interesting aside to talk about, just for the theory aspects. It really gets you (me) thinkin’ about what’s important and what makes something good.
So, uh, does this game have a Turbo Function?
I would like to play the game at Turbo 1 or 2.
Guys, where is the move list on this game?
Does SkullGirls have some type of special “in-game” manual like most games are doing now a days?
I’m trying to understand the game because Bursting makes no sense to me as how sometimes it whiffs and sometimes it doesn’t when doing the same exact loop/inf (shit, you can just burst loops, and sometimes just long combos).
Playing the tutorial isn’t helping because it seems really bug. Text overlap the chock board and the AI doesn’t act out the rolls you’re force to perform most of the time. That, or maybe I’m just not getting the game, but there isn’t anything in the game helping me out here.
This is coming from a tournament player, and I’m gonna have to say, I’m fuckin’ confused.

Really? I have to look online for my info?
My PS3 is located away from my modem, and only so often I’ll connect it to get a PSN game of some kind.
Having to run back and forth to read up on a character is fuckin’ annoying.
Why isn’t any of this stuff in-game?
Had I not come here in this topic, I wouldn’t have any idea where to look up the info. The official site isn’t exactly nice to look at, and at times, seems to be running slow as fuck.
Holy hell…
Never thought I’d ask this but, is there a way to get a re-fun back for purchasing PSN games?
Pen + Paper is your friend? And its obviously going to get patched in eventually.
- Yes sir.
- At least your getting exercise.
(You could print the information out , or re-situate where some things are located , if you can , but I don’t know how you have your house made up). - Time & cash were factors. It will be added in the future.
- You could print the information out.
- Things will get better.
- Unfortunately , no , but thanks to your purchase , you increased the chance people will be able to see some of the features you want later , that were left out , added in a future update.
