honestly, SG has this weird quality where you have to play it in order to really get it
if I wasn’t dragged in front of an SG setup more times than I can count, I don’t think I’d have any interest in it, as the artstyle really isn’t my thing either, nor did the gameplay really look like anything special from first glance
don’t let the rabid fanbase get to you, they wear on me too
maybe its because im pragmatic, but i usually choose my characters based on how they play and how they accommodate to my play style, and this is only when i played enough time with them, but hey, everyone is free to shoose their mains the way they like
Yeah I wouldn’t call that the whole community. Most of the community is randoms on Facebook and Joe Shmoes waiting for the game. SRK is just a subsection of the players and many of the people who play competitively don’t even post on SRK.
That’s why I like it so much without even playing it really because it’s all the small things that I know the game entails that just adds up to exactly what I’ve been looking for the past 3 years from a new game. It plays more like an old game where there’s a lot of stuff to do when you combine things together rather than just putting a bunch of subsystems and crazy insta factor moves in.
I feel a lot of people who have trouble with the art will appreciate it just a bit more when they see it in person on their HD screens/monitors. Even if the characters were all wrapped around in toilet paper like mummies I’m still a sucker for high frame counts for animations. Seeing 12+ frames of animation go into their basic moves just reminds me of seeing SF3 for the first time at the arcade. Seeing the characters transition so fluidly while still being sprites is very interesting to me any way.
You’ll be hitting the buy button pretty fast. 2 characters don’t cut it and 15 dollars don’t kill the wallet too hard.
It’s not so much the art style. I just don’t like how… What’s the word. Gratuitous the character design is. It’s like the game is screaming “HEY, THIS GAME HAS GIRLS. AND TITS! YOU LIKE THOSE, RIGHT?”
Is it? I’m not quite getting this vibe actually.
And also it has shitload of design choices and game mechanics which are very good. Too bad for people who don’t want to look that deep I guess… Insert book and cover proverb here
I haven’t been paying that close attention to the game though. Probably why I see it like that. I mean shit, I thought for the longest time that the game was about chicks with big hair having the hair fight for them. :-\
Now look at all common fighters and tell me to which this doesn’t apply (MK doesn’t count because while the women do look ugly as fuck, I doubt that’s intended)?
Dude, you don’t find Carmen Sandiego…she finds (and promptly robs you) YOU. And word of mouth is Waldo is up in the North Pole, taking over for Santa for a few centuries while the old fella takes a load off.
Didn’t realize how so many people were concern with cosmetics. I’m glade its not a priority with me. Personally i do like the style. I could do with out some of the suggestive fan service but their not as bad as MK9 or AH series.
I’d rather people being honest with reasons like “I can’t play female characters in video games” than trying to find hilarious excuses like “I choose not to play a specific fighting game because I don’t like some of the people that post on an SRK forum section dedicated to the game”.
The 1st reason is at least related to the game itself and is less retarded.
People who think that the General Discussion threads for ANY GAME on SRK represents the entire community for that game are pretty silly. The majority of people who play these games never post on any forums. Especially for games that are not even released yet lol.
I dont like the comic look. I totally hate the stupid voices and screaming after every single action.
Especially with the team in the screen after an tag action, it’s such a messy mass of noise.
Sounds like a bunch of cats, traped in a box which is violently shaken.
I dont like that the game has only girls.
Sorry to say that.
No thx. Maybe SF4 has a worse netcode, maybe it’s made by a greedy company, maybe it has comeback mechanics. But it’s designed to appeal to a large base of players.
Thats the biggest mistake the skullgirls developers had made. If it’s only appeal to some hardcore fighters on srk.com and not to the majority, the game will fail.
The majority dont like a “childish” comic look, the majority dont like japanese like high pinched voiced girly screams after each action, the majority dont like it to only play female characters, and dont like the drawing style.
Hard to say, as much as I respect such project and engagement by the developers (answering questions in the forum by themself, and the close contact with the community etc). I wish them all luck with the game, but it will probably fail.
SG folk: I know you guys are hype as fuck and are trying to spread it to your fellow FG community members here at SRK. But let’s be real. To a lot of folks this game will be a hard sell. There’s stuff they don’t like about it, as stuff we don’t like about the games they play(which, is honestly one of the reasons some of us are picking up SG). Ya’ll the SG community, we’ll get a following even if most the haters/dislike artist in this thread aren’t a part of it. If the game’s tutorials actually do their job well enough and correctly teaches how to FG, I mean who knows? Could lead to some brand new blood. Also I think when more DLC characters become reality we could see more folks picking it up as well.
Haters/Dislike Artists: Download and give the free Demo a shot. But honestly, I feel a few of you guys are pretty concrete in your decision and not going to budge or even give it a chance in the first place. Which is a shame. But it is what it is.
MissionSchabernack: It may fail to attract here, but I’m sure there’s other places around the net that will pick it up and it’ll do just fine.
