Why people hate/love Decapre

Anti-Decapre arguments:

• People may have expected a character which was at the same time totally new and interesting. Something of Juri’s calibre. Something we haven’t had since 2010.
• Her in-game colors look a little bit off.

That’s all I could find.

Pro-Decapre arguments:

• She looks cool, fun and interesting.

Which sounds way more important to me than the “anti” arguments and at least as objective as the “There were a million other better candidates for the 5th.” of the OP.

The reception wouldn’t even have been as bad if they just didn’t hype her up so much. When they revealed that a 5th character was going to be in the game, everyone got excited. People were thinking R.Mika or Retsu. It just sucks that months of Capcom saying that we would be excited with what we saw just came to nothing but a copy/paste Cammy clone. I get that they are doing bad money wise but why not just reveal her last year when the game was first announced? People wouldn’t have been as dissapointed if they did just that.

I understand that, but people don’t seem to realize that Capcom was screwed anyway. Because when they announced the first four characters, they probably had nothing concrete to show about Decapre.

What do you think would have happened if they had announced the character with only unfinished artwork to show for months ? The reaction would have been basically the same, only for different reasons.
The crowd would have been like "Booh Crapcom, why do you tease us with some shitty artwork and then show us nothing for months ? We want to see some gameplay already, you stupid trolls!"
And, no, showing early buggy gameplay when it has not even been finalized on paper would not have been a good idea. In fact, showing your whole creative process to the crowd is almost never a good idea.

They picked their poison, and I don’t think we can ultimately blame them for that.

She’s a charge character so she plays radically different. Now I’m gonna have to hold down back instead of just down when I do my bnb into cannon drill. F’n crazy! And when I wake up cannon spike, I’ll have to be holding down for a second before I swing my thumb forward. Radically different!

Come on, I’d bet you are smarter than that. And you know it is way more subtle than that.
It also means that you cannot go into reversal “cannon spike” (not sure if she has a move like that, but whatever) after a blocked jump in or crossup, that you cannot do FADC into special, that you cannot walk forward and do light ~ medium x special, and many other restrictions like that. You WILL have to play differently (and sometimes, I would even say “smarter”) on plenty of occasions.

Capcom fired the staff members responsible for restraining Ono from trolling. They were too expensive, and, in all honesty, not too good at their job anyway.

Many hate her for predicable reasons
After the game get released many others (and some of the current haters) will like her for predicable reasons

Hate come from butthurts, the ones of “damn, i was hoping for xxxxx” and the ones of "fuck lazy Capcom"
Love from being a likely high tier flashy shit that kidz will find cool

Decrape needs to be removed from the game and hopefully Ono gets fired.

Why would they remove her now ? I can understand that you would rather have seen Capcom focusing on other things than Decapre, but now that she is nearly done anyway, why would anyone want her removed, except out of pure hate ?

Removing Decapre isn’t going to add Alex/Karin/R Mika/Shin Evil Blanka to the game, so that suggestion is meaningless.

Dive kick characters being all happy about their dive kicks.

And I am not even talking about Rufus here. As a Claw player, during several minutes after every Rufus encounter, my ears cannot send to my brain anything else than “Ay ay ay ay ay ay …”.
Heck, I would even say that my character is stupid. Fighting with a claw, really ?

But is all this “stupidness” a bad thing in a game like Street Fighter ? Not necessarily.

Now, maybe you see something particularly retarded about Decapre that other characters don’t exhibit, but then you should explain your view.

The fact with Decapre is that she’s the laziest and most recycled terrible design of all the roster, from the visual aspect, she’s simply terrible in production level, like a horrible low-budget character that is nothing but an already existing character with a mask.

You could start including G. Andore as a mustache-wearing Hugo clone that performs his moves via charge motions, it would be almost as terrible.

Now, it seems clear that it is the latter.

However, you have two very different points here.

The first one “is that she’s the laziest and most recycled terrible design of all the roster”, which I kinda agree with, except for the “terrible” part.
But the re-use of assets is more a problem of Capcom themselves, not the character. In the end, who cares about the fact that a character is lazy/recycled as long as he/she is good ?

This brings me to your second point, which I disagree with. And it is the part where you state that she is “terrible” or “horrible”, and you talk about the “visual aspect” at some point.
I am under the impression that you don’t like the character in her design. But it is completely subjective. Stating that a character is “stupid” and wanting her removed from the game because you don’t like her design is quite selfish.

I have even more difficulties to understand you on this one because the roster is already full of characters who are way “uglier” (imho) than her, like Rufus, Sagat, Seth, Zangief, Blanka, Dudley, Hakan, … Yet I don’t want them removed because they are interesting gameplay-wise and, if some people find them cool, good for them.

I agree that the inclusion of Decapre, or any doll for that matter, is lazy. The inclusion, not the design. It’s not like she’s a brand new character… She’s an existing character that happens to look exactly like Cammy.

However, you’re being unfair by calling her the exact same character as Cammy, but with a mask. By that logic, Evil Ryu is just Ryu with a hole in his chest, which we both(?) know couldn’t be farther from the truth. She not going to play like Cammy.

Doubt it. They would need to change the properties of all her moves to make her bad. That’s how versatile she is. Her toolset is probably the best in the game… It’s just ridiculous how much she has access to.
